I was going to post in the other thread but gave up after Dr. Rice only lasted a page or so of it.
Firstly, let me say that I am suffering from Colin Powell withdrawal. I haven't made up my mind as of yet whether Dr. Rice will turn out to be a good Sec. of State. I want to see her in action first.
What is really bothering me are all of the what I consider to be extremely racist cartoons and remarks made about her in the mainstream media. One radio host called her an "Aunt Jemima" yesterday. IMO, the cartoons are horrific.
Whether conservative or liberal doesn't this bother anyone else here? In this day and age I feel that there is no excuse for throw back actions such as these.

I think Rice is a brilliant woman, whether she will make a good Sec of State, don't know.
About the Aunt Jemima comment, I think that is VERY offensive, and I am not thee most PC person there is, except when it comes to racist and other type of remarks. What radio host would say something like that???

And on the same line, weren't they calling Powell 'Uncle Tom' when he was appointed? I vaguely remember that, but I believe people did...

I agree with you Calamity on the below the belt racist cartoons and names. It's dirty politics and reminds me of the Swift Boat ads against Kerry. But let's remember that the people responsible for these epithets and cartoons don't represent the Democratic party or the liberals as some here would like to believe.

NTS,
I don't remember his name except he was a one name person from the southen midwest. It was on the news last night. I don't remember anything printed or said about Powell. They probably did, though.
Helen,
I think stuff like this transcends politics. Neither party would condone this trash. It's shock jocks, shock cartoonists or shock writers trying to get attention to stay in business and not being called to task for it.
I just have to call to task anyone who makes personal fun of someone else.
I just have to semi quote him. "There will come a time when a person will be judged by the content of their character not by the color of their skin."
I thought that time would come in my lifetime and hope it still will.
Of course this evil transcends politics. The evil of lying to assassinate the character of a good man or woman or using race to denigrate is inexcusable. In this case it's being used as a dirty political tool. If Rice was still teaching at Stanford she would not have to face such racist criticism. I can remember when this was not the case. So we've come a short way but not nearly far enough.

I think Colin Powell did an excellent job as SoS...and I believe Condi Rice will too. But I do believe Condi and the President have a much smoother relationship [closer in political agreements] than he did with Powell. -------------------
I agree...all should be outraged at the cartoons and the racist statements being made by the democrats/liberals. Rather than dismissing them as 'not being representative of liberals' they should be calling for apologies of these same people they normally support in their political agendas.
I listed the three names... in the Condi Rice thread...who did the cartoons if you want their names.

From Fox News today -
Rice Undergoes Uterine Surgery
Friday, November 19, 2004
WASHINGTON — Condoleezza Rice (search), President Bush's choice to be the next secretary of state, underwent surgery Friday to treat noncancerous growths in her uterus, a White House official said.
The national security adviser underwent uterine fibroid embolization (search) at Georgetown University Hospital, and it appeared to be successful with no complications, said Jim Wilkinson, a deputy national security adviser. Rice was resting comfortably, Wilkinson said.
"So far things are fine," said the interventional radiologist who performed the surgery, Dr. James B. Spies.
"It's been very routine and a success technically."
Rice was given a sedative, not a general anesthetic, Spies said. Patients experience discomfort after the procedure, so they are routinely kept overnight, he said.

I swear.. I hear harps and trumpets and lo and behold..there is WDM sitting on her porcelain throne..adjusting her halo, while trying to keep her wings from dipping in the bowl..
Careful you don't fall off of your throne onto your fat cherub azz, there WMD!! It has been known to happen to those who keep their noses so high in the air.. hee hee..

Nope. I hear no celestial music. Harps and halos don't belong in the environment of those who want to leave the children of poor people to suffer without food, shelter or health care. Hell is a better place for those people who look at the poor and say tough s h i t.

Very true, Helen. Back in my day she may have been admitted as a student but never hired as an administrator!!
Linda, I knew she was to have surgery but didn't know for what until this morning. I used to have fibroids at inspection time every year until the Dr. found a big one and I had the big H.
I didn't know that there was this procedure and thought it must be new but just saw an ad on tv letting us all know that it was available at one of our local hospitals. Geesh!!!

It seems like moving forward is something that some people can't do. When are we going to drop the dividing line that is hurting our country. That goes for both black and white. rich or poor, liberals or conservatives.
I am sure we all have friends that are of a different color than we are, different political views and some are richer or poorer. We need to move this country in the direction of unity. I know I have but I don't like them less. What I never do is talk politics, religion with friends that is personal.
Lots of times not football either. It is tough to have Vikings relatives and I am a Packers fan....

dirty politics and reminds me of the Swift Boat ads against Kerry.
Shame on you Helen, if you want to mention dirty politicts, why not mention the king of dirty politicts, "Moveon.org".
Kerry could have easily proved the Swift Vets wrong (or would it prove the Swift Vets correct) by releasing the 100 pages of his military records he refused to release.
Americans again prove Pres Bush is the best man for the job
"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." --John Stuart Mill
