A question for the most intelligent here on the RT..which of course includes just about everyone here, right.. LOL
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

My question to you is:
What is of utmost importance to all human beings in this game of life... or should be...but most don't give it a second thought..

I am going out for a few hours, I hope when I return there will be a ton of replies..
I of course have the only correct answer to my question.. at least the first part of it... but will need some help with the second part..
Maggie

Buying board games on eBay, naturally. If you haven't done it lately, maybe you should try it. It could change your whole life!

OK, now a serious answer. I'll go with...

What a disappointment ... only 5 or 6 replies.
Perhaps the use of "Most intelligent" in the topic title frightened some away.. or they are just to modest?

My question to you is:
What is of utmost importance to all human beings in this game of life... or should be...but most don't give it a second thought..

When you play a game, (yes Replay, board games apply) what is the objective?

When we compete,.. again.. what is the main objective?

Of course, winning is the answer, right..?

So...what game do we all play knowing from the start, that we will lose?

That's right...the game of life..

Which brings me to the answer to my original question... what is of utmost importance to all human beings in this game of life..or should be...
Answer.. life itself and defeating death.

From the first day of birth we are dieing...
We learn this at an early age and we accept the ultimate defeat of death without question. We are a highly competitive creature, we've put a man on the moon, cloned sheep, created weapons of Mass destruction, found miraculous cures..etc..
All geared toward making the time we have here comfortable, safe and happy...and of course all the time striving to be the strongest and the best..

So..here is the puzzling part of the question... If we are playing the game of death against a fast ticking clock..knowing every minute that passes is a minute closer to our death and defeat...then.. why isn't it top priority above all else...to find the way to cheat death?

I welcome your thoughts.. Maggie

Well, to me it would be food, clothing and shelter. Not necessarily in that order.

I think it's because many people believe that living in a body is just a part of our total experience. What would be the point of extending life?

A question I have for you Maggie, is why do you see death as a defeat? Scientifically, nothing dies, it just changes. Why wouldn't that apply to us as well?

That is the prize religion delivers, that something continues beyond the demise of the physical being.

Thanks again. Kraft..Mah.. I believe that our life is the ultimate existance...I can't get excited about being dust or worm feed.. Lol..
Of course religions tell us that we will continue the journey.. but for those of little faith.. it's a crap shoot..

Why would we not want to live? Why are we so willing to accept death? Why isn't there more energy put forward to win...Death is defeat.. it is the end and so far as I have been able to figure out... you don't get a second chance.. we just go like sheep to the slaughter.. what a waste..

Hillbillymo says, """That is the prize religion delivers, that something continues beyond the demise of the physical being."""

Sorry, there is no proof of that.

Maggie says, "...to find the way to cheat death? "

You mean like a fountain of youth ?
Magic drugs? Flash freezing ?
Wish there was a way but, ya know, the way the world is going
if there was a "live forever" pill...I'd turn it down.

And jeez, Kraft, life after death does do some maor changes....ya know what a body looks like after a few months......whew, BIG change!

Tissue dies, kraft. But I also do not see death as defeat. Just transition.

Why are we so willing to accept death? We don't. People when referring to the death, say he/she passed on, anything but died! If middle age is 50, we should all live to be 100. Look at what extremes people go to, in an attempt to hold on to their youthful appearance! Death is a part of life as much as birth is.

Sorry Double, but NOTHING dies. Scientists are still trying to see if there's such a thing as neutrino death, and haven't been able to prove it yet. Even the atoms in your body come from space and will regroup after you die. Why can't this apply to consciousness?

Sorry, I disagree, kraft.

But what you may refer to as consciousness, I refer to as spirit, so I will agree with you that doesnt "end" or die but merely transforms. I dont think that is true with living tissue. Unless you consider compost alive because it is made up of matter.

You are right Crowfarm, That should have stated: promises. However, that is why religion has worked so well as means to control. There is a convenience in believing that you don't die. When many are faced with logic they choose to believe otherwise, because of this convenience.

There is no proof of life after death. Yes perhaps our atoms live on, our bones turn to dust etc.. but life as we know it ceases to exist.. it is this life I think we should be working to save.
Who says death has to be part of life? Just because that is all we know..doesn't make it so.... a couple of hundred years ago.. people wouldn't believe that space travel was within our reach...or that life expectancy could be extended..

I put it to you this way.. say, tomorrow, you were kidnapped by a serial killer.. would you give up and say , oh well, death is part of life.. might as well not fight it? Maybe I'll regroup and become a tree, or better yet, I'll go to Christ and my spirit will live on... I'm hoping that you would fight for your life! So what is different with fighting to gain the knowledge to preserve this precious gift of life forever?

And Crow.. why wouldn't you want to live forever.. if we could live healthy productive lives.
Imagine if we could be open to the possibility of continuing life forever, take away the inevitability of death from old age..don't you think if we changed that mind set, we could accomplish the goal.. I think it is because we accept death as a natural part of life, that we don't aspire to live...

Tell all future new borns from day one, that their most important goal is to defeat death from old age, that it is possible... and it must be their primary goal...to win the game of life...tell them it is possible.. bet it would happen...
