One week ago, Mark and I went out to meet friends to celebrate a birthday at a local pub. Then we were to go to the pub across the street to listen to another friend's band play. While halfway through my first drink (Crown and Pepsi), I started to feel ill. I told Mark he could drink (it was my turn) as I wasn't drinking anymore. About five minutes later, I was heading for the truck so I could lay down. I walked about four feet and dropped....HARD! I landed at the feet of an EMT that I know. I still have a goose-egg on the back of my head!

I had not taken any meds of any kind for at least 3 weeks....the drink wasn't strong and it's my usual...and I had eaten dinner 2 hours before heading out. Oh, did I mention that I didn't feel ill at all and was looking forward to seeing some old friends?

My MD ran some bloodwork, so I know it's not sugar or some kind of "infection".....

Any kind of help would be appreciated!

Low blood pressure will do the trick. You know that feeling when you get up too fast and you feel faint? Low blood pressure. My daughter's fiance (yes, she became engaged yesterday!), had this happen on Friday night. She called me frantically saying something was wrong with Jay. I took off down the street like a bat out of you-know-what. Anyway, she was on the phone with EMS when I got there. He was talking to her and just passed out. He woke up quickly, but was sweating a lot. I thought heart attack at first. Here, it was low blood pressure brought on by taking a percocet (he just had surgery) with two aspirins. Deadly combination.

It may just have been that your blood pressure went to low at that time. I know that all kinds of things can cause that. Let us know if you get it checked and find anything out. I, for one, wish you well.

I agree with Cheryl. Low blood pressure is the usual cause as well as low blood sugar. Did it only happen the once? Have you ever felt faint but not passed out in the past year?

I can't agree, Dr. Yellow.

My blood pressure was normal when I went to the doctor, but it was two days later...I've been instructed to go straight to the hospital when it happens again.

Mark said he was glad it happened inside. That way someone would not come in complaining about that hairy speed bump in the parking lot! (Yeah, he loves me...)

Jazz is certain someone put some date-rape drug in my drink..it's the latest thing. Now what 21 year old is going to slip me a date-rape drug?

Low blood pressure can just happen and it may never happen again. It's really not uncommon. It's happened to me a couple of times in my life. I only fainted once, but came very close a second time. If you ever feel faint, stop, sit and put your head between your knees. It will rush blood to your head and should stop you from fainting.

Cheryl & kd- It has happened before, about a year ago, but this is the first time I actually lost conciousness. Same thing, one drink and then feeling ill. I wasn't nauseous, just felt sick to my bones, and I didn't feel dizzy until I started walking. My drink was never unattended. I watched the bartender (whom we like and likes us) make the drink. So it's not the drug thing (we thought it was the other times).

dad- I knew I was a cheap date, but not THAT cheap!

Twig, if you've got a possible blood pressure problem, you should probably get one of those blood pressure checkers from the drugstore and check it several times a day. Get one that has a digital readout.

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to also keep a record by writing down the readings to show your doctor.

My boss got one a couple months ago and keeps it on his desk and since then all of us at work stop in from time to time and check our own blood pressure, just for the heck of it.

Try drinking on a more regular basis, say, daily. That should do it.

Get a Blood Pressure machine.
Not much help if your's is low.
There are guide line for high pressure, but none for low.

Perfect is 120/80
High starts at 140/90

But haven't had a Doctor yet say what is too low!

Yes, a well endowed specimen she is. However, The manner in which she has braced herself against that tree leads one to the conclusion, she is prone to falling over. She is a thing of beauty for now, but when gravity prevails those suckers will resemble two watermelons in a down hill race.
