I have a question for all of you computer savvy people out there...is there any way that your computer can automatically refresh, reload?
For instance, if I have bids on auctions and I have "MY Ebay" page up, I have to constantly refresh/reload to see if I have been outbid, or similarly if I have an auction running, I have to reload the page to see if the bids have increased...is there a way to set your computer to reload a page automatically every few minutes?

There are some autorefresh scripts and plug-ins that you can use. Right off the bat I found one at http://www.stay-logged-in.com/ that has a free trial. there are others out there, I just haven't ever used one so I cannot reccomend one above another.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Classic.. I thought of that but to be successful using a sniper tool.. depends on your computer speed, doesn't it? So someone with a faster speed like cable vs dial up could still out bid me, right?
That sounds really cool, Helen.. enjoy!

Helen, your iPod should be automatically updated with your iTunes playlists when you plug the pod into your computer. iTunes should open and do the work for you. Though we have 3 iPods around here, I'm not the expert. The Mrs. and the boy are the experts and they're out feeding poultry right now. There will be a preference to be set to auto update either in your iPod software or in iTunes. I'm guessing you're using Windows, so it might be a bit different.
Here's a link to Apple's discussion group about iTunes for Windows:

and a link to the various iPod discussions:

So far, I've downloaded music to itunes but when I connect the ipod to the computer, nothing happens. The ipod is not recognized in the source file on the iTunes page but a message not to disconnect is shown on the ipod. It's probably a glitch in the iTunes software or WINDOWS...Lol.
Thanks for the links, Profe...I'll check them out!

No maggie the sniping service does it for you. I think you have to pay for that service. If you want a sniping service go to the EO. Someone up there might know. Since there isn't many bidders on Ebay during the summer months I think you should be able to keep up with it.

forgot. I like to wait until I get my email from ebay at the end of the auction to see what really happened in the last minutes. Sometimes it is quite a nice surprise.

So Libra it has nothing to do with how fast my computer connection is then? I will check it out.. I was bidding this evening and as usual during the last 10 minutes there must have 20 bids... I was panicking trying to keep my winning bid.. I did win the auction but paid a whole bunch more than I had planned
Ebay is down tonight...

Right I just found that out. They say Paypal is having problems also along with some parts of Vendio. I guess they all use the same server.
If you were bidding on a hot item then I would think you would have to bid high in the first place about 6 seconds before auction ends. I use to be a bidder helper for a buyer in California and what we did was I would bid the next highest amount and at the same time she bid higher and we usually won her bid for her. I think we waited about 6 seconds before the bidding closed and then did that. She always got her item and it didn't go high because I think we blocked the other bidders, but I don't know for sure. I think sniping services can bid up to 2 seconds before bidding closes, but I don't know for sure.

Prof - don't forget, Helen is running her iPod in PC mode
Helen - I wish I could help but like Prof I run from a Mac so I just plug in and it automatically updates. If you don't figure it out tonight let me know, I'll see if I can figure out how to do the manualy update before UPS gets here (new merch arriving in the AM- I will be MIA for a bit )
Once you get it done you are going to love it. The only thing I didn't like were the earbud headphones. I hate those things - they never stay in my ears! I found a great set of Sony individual over the ear headphones on eBay though and all is well.

helen, I thought I rememeber some thread where you said you couldnt view dl or open something and you typed it was because you didnt have active x on your machine? I was wondering maybe you had a known reason for not having it, like it's dangerous source of malware (which it can be, far as I know) or for excluding your machine from running it? I dont have a clue about what that *might* have to do with IPOD or any of that tho. To me its like car mechanics all that stuff works with and to each other.

maggie-I use "auctionsniper.com" You cut and paste the auction number and put in your maxium bid like a proxy bid. However unlike a proxy bid your bid doesnt show up until the last 5 seconds,so no one else knows. When you have a proxy bid your bid is already up there and if someone else wants it real bad, they can keep upping the bid until they surpass you. They do charge a fee-I believe its around 1 1/2 pecent of the winning bid,but its well worth it.If you need any more info you may email me at [email protected]

you know classic I was torn between is it a oddity or novelty seller item, or can somebody get it somewhere in florida or an airport somewhere? you know? If I didnt already have so much junk I wont be able to sell on ebay(maybe gs it might go - sometimes figure i bought it maybe somebody else will)- lol! but I'm being more careful now, and trying to move into some higher end things. (You work so much harder on the low end items.)
But maybe it will be still be there next week if so, I will buy it. only a couple of bucks if that much and post a pix here for you to see it! ... Felt like tom hanks or something. ...I'll take this coconut home and talk to it!

hey if ya claim the coconut talks back to you, maybe Golden Casino will buy it
I know what you mean by selling low end items.I know "flufflytheplunderpussy" used to,and I guess still does cheap junk jewlery.(I think shes still sells on overstock.com)I think she started her auctions at 1 cent, but made the money on shipping.I couldnt do that, dealing with all those "bottom feeding idiots" they're the worse people to deal with.To me its not worth the aggravation. This past week I was selling most of my vhs videos as you know I have a dvd recorder and I have no need for them.I started them out at $1.00 and sold about half of them. I did ship them out "media mail" so I made a little money on the shipping, but I'll be glad when I get rid of them all.I sold a $1.00 video to someone in upstate ny a year ago.He emails me two weeks later wondering where his video is.I did mail it media mail with no D.C.So I really didnt have any proof I mailed it.I told him wait another week and email me if he didnt get it.He did and I had to refund his money. It wasnt a big deal as we're talking about 4 bucks here.I wasnt going to get a neg over that small amount. So come the following August I get an envelope in the mail, with 4 single dollars and a note in it.Its from this guy I sold the video to the previous May.I had completely forgot about it.He told me he finally got the video in the begining of August! He said the original post date was on it (May)and couldnt figure where it was for 3 months.I couldnt either as were talking about the SAME state, not Russia,China or the slow spaceship to Mars. What shocked me even more is that he actually paid me for it, as I had give it up for lost and would have never know.Thats why I dont like sending anything out media mail-most of the time I did I had no problem, but its always that "ONE" that ruins your day.

Thanks everyone for your help. As I told Libra last night, before Ebay crashed, I was in a bidding war with someone for my Renaissance gown and my fingers were flying trying to keep the winning bid.. I won, but then realized that I had spent way more than I had intended...so if I had a sniper tool, I could just set my max and not get involved with the heat of the moment..
I'm getting a new computer next month as this one is a relic...so will wait for my new powerful machine before adding new programs.
I agree with you Classy, I can't be bothered with the low end stuff either... and that is where you get the most difficult buyers..
I wish I'd known you were selling VHS videos.. my TVEE has a built in VCR so we still watch them on the bedroom TEEvee...I did buy a stack of VHS once on Ebay and was so disappointed when they arrived they were poorly re-taped not originals.. I tossed the lot..
I still haven't heard back from that seller who didn't send my item last month, the one who's daughter was ill.. he's posting again..but I think I'll just let it go.. he's probably forgotten all about it.
DBL.. looks like you are in a good mood! What did you mean when you posted yesterday about being in big trouble with the boss?
Classy did you and your wife enjoy your hike? Do you know Binghamton NY...or Moscow PA?
I feel like Elle Clampet..I just had to scrape a dead bunny off of the road, it was a huge swamp bunny, bigger than my dogs! Well at least I didn't stick it in a pot for stew, like Granny would have.. LOL

lol maggie! You are too funny. I used to love LOVE the beverly hillbillys. So goofy innocent fun. Back when one of my sisters got married, my father was a heavy smoker. So you know when you do the new whole family picture thing with new groom/new bride and respective brought into family? Well apparantly my fathers cigerattes fell out of his pocket, and out of the pack and nobody saw it or noticed it. He must have had his regular daily two or three packs with him. So heres this nice looking family all smiles, and then you look to the floor and there's all these cigerattes sprawled all over the place!! !!!Like, what is that doing in the picture??!! My sister the bride, perfect piizza that she is, naturally was so annoyed that the photographer didnt see it or didnt care!! So she was stuck with that frame. We all laugh at it now -- but I always thought that was like a beverly hillbillys snapshot.
Maggie, this working for yourself is not all that its cut out to be some days. The boss is me because I find if I spend more time on this board than I'd like to, I dont get what I need to get done so much. And I dont just mean listing on ebay. If I didnt enjoy it (posting) I wouldnt do it, but I have a lot of responsibilities to take up here and there isnt anybody to pass the baton to if things dont get done. Thank God my husband is easy going and allows me some latitudes if I get enough of it done. But "We be po' azz too, Maggie, and kernt affording to bang on the drums all day every day. We still waiting on that earl to come up"

classic yeah I know ref fluffy. Do volume its a lot of snievling menancing crap. But maybe not so bad if youve got it all automated. The problem with me is I like smalls (Thats what they call em. Small collectables, small antiques) but rofl......SOMEBODY'S GONNA HAVE A FIELD DAY WITH THAT ONE IKNOW!!-- But there isnt a whole lot of money to be made in those either, only occassionally see a boone on something.
But I think I already told ya about the time I bought and resold a hammock? I dont know where I was with that!!!...like I am sears shipping and receiving over here? I was exhausted just building a box for the stupid thing!

Ya know maggie my VCR is hooked to my TV also in the eBay room, soon to be sitting room and last weekend I found a tape with Sandra Dee in Gidget. I also have, White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life. The original Phantom of the Opera, Cats by Andrew Lloyd Webber and of course a tape on the Green Bay Packers. There is no Wisconsin home that doesn't have a GB Packers tape.
As for sniping is anything worth going to those lengths for something that evidentially will be listed again by another seller and priced lower. That's how items get over priced.

"Classy did you and your wife enjoy your hike? Do you know Binghamton NY...or Moscow PA?"
we didnt go maggie-it was a bit to chilly-we might go this weekend-if the weather stays in the 70's.We went to a place called Painted Post,N.Y. which is about a half hour west of Binghamton on rt 17 next to Corning on Memorial Day weekend two years ago.We took a tour of the glassworks in Corning and went on a dinner cruise on Lake Senneca. We also went thru Watkins Glenn St Park.
We went to Scranton,Pa last summer as they have a big train yard there and we took a train trip that actually ended in Moscow,Pa.We have been all thru Pa as my wifes mom is from Johnstown.
I still have some videos left maggie if your interested I can list them here.

Thanks, Maggie for letting me take advantage of this thread ---I was able with the help of Profe's links to get my music transferred.
BTW... It was the Apple software that caused my error. During the installation the question was asked..."Would you like to plug the Ipod in now?" With the question phrased like that, I just clicked no...thinking that I could plug it in later. That wasn't the case.
