Very sorry to hear about your missing friend. I too am a cat fancier.
I'm sure he'll show up shortly.
Amen,

Normally I am a positive person but something tells me this time he is gone for good. I told my mother to make sure if he does come back that he has his collar and tags on. He constantly loses them.
My father says the cat was uspset by all of the work men that have been around the house lately.

Popnrock, I also have a missing cat, Mojo. It's been over a week since I saw him. He was a barn cat that came here to eat and visit every night for almost 3 years. He only missed nights when it was raining. I miss him sooo badly so I really know how you feel right now.

Popnrock, I sure understand what you mean. People laugh at me too because I'm so addicted to my cats. Screw them. Maybe someday if one of their children goes missing, you can give them the same response... not really, but you'd like to.
Maybe he's just hiding out somewhere until all the hoopla with the workmen is over. He may surprise you and come back soon. Cat's have very good survival instincts. I'm sure he'll be okay.
Other people can be cruel. The saddest thing is I think that sometimes they don't realize they're even being cruel.

My Popeye disappeared for 5 weeks last summer. I thought a bobcat or a coyote had gotten him. When he came home, alot thinner, I figured he went into someone's shed to get out of the rain and was probably shut in. We have several "camps" in our area, so it could happen.
Male cats do that sometimes, wander....Male humans have been known to as well.

twiq, that is a cute name for a cat!! I once had a siamese I called her Mao. Went to a dopo vet one time and he said: MEOW???????? I was so annoyed. Mao not meow.
I got squeeks now and my husband always says he knows I saved him from the pound. But I say naw, it was he who picked me out. And boy, did he. ( I used to sometimes to the aspca and just walk round.) I almost came home with a dog once!!! She or he was just sooo sad. I dont go there any more because of that, and my husband doesnt want me just surprizing him with any other animals or pets Its bad enough I am bringing wacko ebay stuff home...lol.
ps: dont know about that coming back thing
And edit to add to Ms.J: Sorry, I can empathize with how you feel. Its not nice.

Keep in mind that cats, unlike dogs, aren't dependent on humans for much of anything, and they aren't the least bit loyal. Also unlike dogs (and people), they are not burdened with guilt, or shame..Sometimes they just decide to up and go..This is the time of year when toms go on their all night prowls, and then find a hidey-hole to nap the day away. Especially if he's not neutered, he may be out chasing girls. We've had cats gone for a month or more who finally show up. I wouldn't give up on him yet.

profes, i disagree with you about the loyality thing. They are independent, but if I take off for a couple of days like a trip or something, I have never had one that wasnt upset about it and they will find a way to let you know. They live your routine, too.

dbl, you're right, but it's the upset in the routine they're mad about, not so much that they're missing you. We had a cat some years back who became physically quite ill. Dehydration, fever, vomiting...the vet ran all sorts of blood work and couldn't find anything wrong. Finally, she asked us "has anything in her routine changed?" We realized that we had moved a little loveseat out of our bedroom to make more space...you guessed it, her favorite napping spot..put back the loveseat and she was well in a week.

profes, what do they call that when you extend human attributes to things that are not human?
Well whatever it is....this may be the case here, but my assessment is, its about how you raise them, sorta? I cannot tell you how attached this cat is to me! (And its me because he will only go around the hubby when there's food to be had.) He follows me around all day all over the house!! And if by chance he could be in one of his deepest most glorious naps, and I call him and I say, c'mon you wanna come have a nap with me? He comes. He knows what that is. I read somewhere that the cat brain is the most like a human brain. It was ugly tho. Abut them using cats for science. Now I dont know how true that is officially. My husband always tells me what are you going to do when he talks back to you one day?
