Bill Clinton: Iraq Changes Good for Region
COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Former
President Clinton said Wednesday the political changes in
Iraq, including parliamentary elections in January, will help bring stability to the region.
Clinton met with Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen and a number of Danish lawmakers during his visit. The former president spoke with reporters before flying to Jordan for a poverty conference.
"The Sunnis and the Shiites, the Kurds and all the various tribes can work out accommodations that will allow them to build a stable society, I think that will be good for Iraq and good for the Middle East," Clinton said at the end of a two-day visit to Denmark.
In January, Iraq held the its first democratic parliamentary elections to choose a 275-member National Assembly and provincial legislatures.
"There is no point living in the past," Clinton said. "Look at where we are now. Everyone, all freedom-loving people would be better off with a genuinely representative, effective, free government in Iraq whatever your feelings are about what went on before."

Well, if Clinton says so, it must be right!... is that what you're hoping for Linda?
I've never heard anyone here say the U.S. has done NO good. We just talk about the things that need fixing, which should be a concern to both the right and the left. It's only the right that sees the discussion of these things as being negative.

lol, no kd...just pointing out that those of you who only like to speak to the 'mess/damage/killings' etc. we've done...and that nothing was accomplished by our invasion...I'm showing even CLINTON who bombed Iraq...agrees.
Remember clinton was a much more moderate democrats...than most of you lefties are here. You're more ultra-liberal in your positions....he was not.
Thought maybe hearing it from one of THEIR own though...might bring some MUCH NEEDED insight to the surface....that not ALL dems see things the way the radicals here do... radicals including those here who said, repeated, [sorry you've missed the statements - right] we've "made things WORSE in Iraq", are in a very tiny minority of their party.

Well, it's so nice for you , linduh, to appreciate Clinton's superior intelligence and brilliant dipolmatic skill so lacking in bush.
However, no where in his statements did he say he approved of the war, or thought everything was rosy....you're desperate and grasping at straws as usual.
He said, "Everyone, all freedom-loving people would be better off with a genuinely representative, effective, free government in Iraq whatever your feelings are about what went on before."
Who wouldn't say that...it doesn't mean that it is happening.
He said,""The Sunnis and the Shiites, the Kurds and all the various tribes can work out accommodations that will allow them to build a stable society, I think that will be good for Iraq and good for the Middle East""

LOL if Clinton would have had "superior" intelligence, Bin Laden would of been dead long before 9/11, his lack of diplomatic skill allowed him to live to attack us.
Iraq is a mess, but it took more than one man to make it that way. Bush is not the evil some here would like to portray him as.

Maybe a quick read of the New York Times article with discussion by generals and Pentagon officials on the REAL story in Iraq......"Sober Outlook Given for Iraq "" by John F. Burns and Eric Schmitt.

Things going well in Iraq.....The hilarious part is the U.S. military all upset by the published photo which they say is against military guidelines and the Geneva Convention(which Bush ignores so why can't the British) .
I guess they think torture helps calm relations in Iraq but an "undie " shot is too much
'Shiites Stage Mass Anti-U.S. Protests

NAJAF, Iraq (AP) - Thousands of Shiites, many waving Islam's holy book over their heads, protested the U.S. presence in Iraq on Friday after the detention of several supporters of a radical cleric, while Sunnis shut down places of worship elsewhere in a show of anger over alleged sectarian violence against the minority.
The U.S. military also launched what it said would be an aggressive investigation into how a British newspaper got pictures of an imprisoned Saddam Hussein clad only in his underwear, saying the photos violated military guidelines and possibly the Geneva convention on the humane treatment of prisoners.
Today, the U.S. is facing an intensifying insurgency and the newly elected officials need help. By leaving the sunni Arabs out of the political picture, the guerrila war is escalating....NOT getting better. In an effort to change the course of the war, the Bush administration is now trying once again to govern Iraq. So, unfortunately, you can't put a positive spin on Iraq.
And, I can't agree with the idea that if the outcome is good that we can ignore and excuse the means to that end. The cost of lives lost and the cost of losing favorable international regard for this country is irreparable.
