And here I remember all the articles from the NYT having fits about what they believed was an intentional 'vetting' of a CIA operative.

But here they are....informing our enemies how we're operating in our war or terror. shame..shame..shame.

For Al Qaeda, Must-Read NYT?

Al Qaeda will probably find Tuesday's off-lead story by reporters Scott Shane, Stephen Grey and Margot Williams,

"C.I.A. Expanding Terror Battle Under Guise of Charter Flights," of particular interest, as the Times blows the cover off a secret fleet of charter plane companies who own and fly planes linked to the C.I.A that take terrorist suspects to and from hot spots like Baghdad and Cairo.

The Times writes: "The airplanes of Aero Contractors Ltd. take off from Johnston County Airport here, then disappear over the scrub pines and fields of tobacco and sweet potatoes. Nothing about the sleepy Southern setting hints of foreign intrigue. Nothing gives away the fact that Aero's pilots are the discreet bus drivers of the battle against terrorism, routinely sent on secret missions to Baghdad, Cairo, Tashkent and Kabul. When the Central Intelligence Agency wants to grab a suspected member of Al Qaeda overseas and deliver him to interrogators in another country, an Aero Contractors plane often does the job. If agency experts need to fly overseas in a hurry after the capture of a prized prisoner, a plane will depart Johnston County and stop at Dulles Airport outside Washington to pick up the C.I.A. team on the way."

The Times continues to lay out the specifics, pretty much ensuring the U.S. government will have to at least make costly and time-consuming changes in its anti-terror strategy going forward: "While posing as a private charter outfit -- 'aircraft rental with pilot' is the listing in Dun and Bradstreet -- Aero Contractors is in fact a major domestic hub of the Central Intelligence Agency's secret air service. The company was founded in 1979 by a legendary C.I.A. officer and chief pilot for Air America, the agency's Vietnam-era air company, and it appears to be controlled by the agency, according to former employees. Behind a surprisingly thin cover of rural hideaways, front companies and shell corporations that share officers who appear to exist only on paper, the C.I.A. has rapidly expanded its air operations since 2001 as it has pursued and questioned terrorism suspects around the world….The planes, regularly supplemented by private charters, are operated by real companies controlled by or tied to the agency, including Aero Contractors and two Florida companies, Pegasus Technologies and Tepper Aviation."

There has been some previous coverage of charter companies being employed by the C.I.A., but never in so much excruciating detail (besides the flow chart, the Times has a helpful satellite image of the location of Aero Contractors).

This is hardly a new story. I watched something about this a year ago. The CIA flies suspects out of the country in order to facilitate "legal" torture.

Not sure how it is you think this aids terrorists - it's been done for for years. Did you think they were not aware of it?

If you're saying the NYT is rehashing old news....then you'd better click on the link provided. It was THEIR article in TODAY's NYT.

They are giving new details on old news Linda. It's been in papers it's been on news programs etc. I can picture the building that the investigative report stated was the address for one of the shell companies.

Even the fact that it is not new is in the piece you posted. You may have missed it because it was not bolded.

There has been some previous coverage of charter companies being employed by the C.I.A.,

If you follow the link on the story you sourced you will find an article from 6 months ago where they talk about the fact that this practice is an "open secret"

Here is a link to a story done by CBS in March
http://election.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/03/04/60minutes/main678155.shtml

BTW - Exactly how is a satelite photo of a conmercial airfield "helpful", especially when it can be had from any of a dozen different websites that offer these types of pics. Here's one from TerraFirma.com (this pic was a link on the Johnston County Airport info page on AirNav.com
http://www.terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=11&Z=17&X=1840&Y=9840&W=1

For an organization dedicated to watching a news bureau, they don't seem to be all that up to date on news.

fenix - This article in today's NYT is NO different than your thread on what happened 30 years ago.

When discussion of an event comes up again, as it did in today's NYT article...then what's being ADDED to the story is relivant.....just as your deep throat article is. NO different.

So...imo, the NYT tied all this information together for the terrorists....put a pretty bow on it....and basically disclosed to our terror enemies just where they can find what and whom.

WONDERFUL....and you appear to think that's a okay that he NYT give our enemies this present. how sad.

Linda -

::fenix - This article in today's NYT is NO different than your thread on what happened 30 years ago.::

What? Did you know who deep throat was? Did I miss where Woodward, Bernstein, Bradlee, or Felt confirmed earlier the identity of Deep throat? Apparently so did CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS and well... Fox although the story was conspiculously ignored for much of the day. I guess because they exposed a republican.

::When discussion of an event comes up again, as it did in today's NYT article...then what's being ADDED to the story is relivant.....just as your deep throat article is. NO different.::

Except that my post clearly stated that this was an update of a long story whereas you seem to have believed that yours was new news. Also, it was not promoted as the massive overdramatasization that the NYTarticle was portrayed as by your anti-NYT website.

::So...imo, the NYT tied all this information together for the terrorists....put a pretty bow on it....and basically disclosed to our terror enemies just where they can find what and whom.::

Linda - they have been able to find it for MONTHS. Hell Ajazeerah covered this back in January. Once again, just because you are unaware of something does not mean that everyone else is. These flights are under investigation by a number of foreign governments.

::WONDERFUL....and you appear to think that's a okay that he NYT give our enemies this present. how sad.::

The NYT did not give them anything that has not been available on blogs and other news sites for months. Thats what you don't seem to be getting. You are giving the NYT way too much credit for doing not a lot.

I'm sure that the 'Times Watch site weblink doesn't please the liberals at all.

But it is a site that watches what the NYT prints and let's everyone see their true bias. Each and everyday.

And imo, in this article shows that not only do those who wish to protect our nation have to fight with the liberals in our war on terrorism...but our enemies are getting help from the NYT and the left.

I sincerely hope that all undecideds and all moderates will keep this link and what how the NYT continually is biased against our war efforts.

LOL dbl...well my position is that if it was printed in the NYT today....it's curren news.

What you might be missing is that when, in the past, some lefties have posted outdated stats or an article to prove a point they're trying to make...**I** have pointed out it's an old article...not current and therefor not relevant. I think it's called...paybacks are a b1tch. The prof's done it a couple of times lately too. Uses either the same words I do...or makes similar statements I've made in the past.

Must be the latest 'game' in town.

OK - how about this... maybe the fact that the exact routes taken by planes two years ago have now been determined is new but could someone please explain to me why this is supposed to be informative reading for terrorists? Do you think they don't already know that if captured they are not going to be brought straight to the US, given a lawyer, a cot and three hot meals? Sorry ladies, exact plane routes may be new information but point of the story which was the whole point of the "TheConstitutionShouldNotApplyToThoseThatDisagreeWithUs.com report is hardly new information to anyone that pays any attention to the news or has watched 60 Minutes.

Wouldn't a better point be that the U.S, under the approval of the president, is committing acts of torture by flying "suspects" to other countries thereby avoiding the LAW!

Wouldn't it be a better point that nobody cares about TORTURE, even when posted in capitalized threads because to paraphrase Joe Lieberman, "we've seen torture, and frankly sir, nude pyramids is not torture, torture is getting your head chopped off."

Hopefully right now they have that Al Queda bigwig they just caught in Pakistan covered in naked strippers, eating bacon and eggs for breakfast.

"""Wouldn't it be a better point that nobody cares about TORTURE, ""

Well, then why did linduh get so upset when I suggested that her "son" be tortured...all of a sudden SHE cared.

Obviously you don't care that your country is also breaking the law....

Oh, classic, aren't you just a teeny bit embarrassed posting your day dreams about me

crowfarm says: Well, then why did linduh get so upset when I suggested that her "son" be tortured...all of a sudden SHE cared.

Of course crowfarm isn't at all able to see reality of what really was said.

As I pointed out to crowfarm, who LOUDLY professes to support our soldiers....when she said she hope my son was tortured....

...it so angered her that [b]I pointed out that she gives lip-service to supporting our troops....but then calls for their torture. And that [b]I don't see that as being supportive to our troops, as she continues to claim...but rather VERY anti-American, anti-Armed Forces.

Get that....an American - cf....who calls for OUR OWN troops to be tortured...so that we will understand how it feels.

But that's not taking the enemies side....that's not siding with our enemies. NO!!.... In HER mind that's supporting our troops.

Pretty sick imo.....pretty darn sick...and not at all showing support for our troops. But again....what do we expect from crowfarm.

As usual, you've got it backwards.

YOU posted FOR torture.

I posted against torture.

If you're for torture I don't understand why you object to anyone being tortured ???????

because she and helen always are supportive of our enemies and what WE do to THEM. NEVER the other way around.

They're members of the 'blame America first' crowd. That's why.

And I also believe, he'll correct me if I'm wrong, that desquirrel was referring to the majority of American's who DO HAVE THE ABILITY to understand we're at war....that the actions of the terrorsts ARE worse than ours....and still remain supportive of OUR way of conducting war. NOT believing what all the other countries say we're doing...how terrible we are...etc.

SO unlike the ultra-left, anti-American's here.

""Your for against torture?? how come I never hear you screaming about the insurgents cutting heads off innocent victims?? ""

Because I expect those people to cut someone's head off and torture.... they're terrorists.

I expect my country to have higher standards...set the bar for moral behavior.

To sink to the level of terrorists makes YOU a terrorist.

Same old same old anti American BS. from lollinda. The only anti-Americans that are significant are the ones occupying the White House. They, like our enemies are trying to run roughshod over the very principles that this country was founded on. They operate in secrecy and tell lies to advance their anti-American imperialist agenda. They find excuses for torture, lies to justify preemptive war, lies to justify greedy corporate hegemony, lies to justify welfare to the wealthy while the poor get poorer, lies to spin whatever greedy agenda they have in mind with power over the press....Those are the anti-Americans, the Bush administration and they are the ones to blame...not the country and not me and crowfarm.
