I'm so bored tonight that I am listening to Matt Drudge and a drunken Julia Phillips gossip about celebrities and the Democratic National Convention on the radio. So naturally (?) my thoughts turned to wrestling. As a 33 year old woman with a college degree in art history, I hardly think of myself as the wrestling fan type. In fact I have never watched much Tv at all. But during a time when I was sick and in bed, someone introduced me to Thursday night Smackdown and I am hooked. I now have lengthy conversations with my 9 year old nephew about the Rock and Triple H and Chyna. I defend wrestling every chance I get because I think it's the funniest television around. Is anyone else willing to come out of the closet or do I have to layeth the smacketh down here???

Oh no you DON'T want to get me started on this subject. No no and a thousand times never will I ever allow that crap to be on the television in my house. My children are not even allowed to watch it at other ppl's houses if it should come on, which it hasn't because most of my neighbors feel the same way, but just in case...
I cannot believe they glorify these brainless OAFS and encourage young children to emulate their behavior like smashing each other over the head. Oh, how wonderful a genre to be put as an example for kids. I am sickened by the stories I hear of kids all over the country ending up hospitalized because they tried to pull some maneuver they saw on wrestling.

If there is a petition out there lobbying it's ban, please someone point me in the direction because wrestling is THE most horrible thing on public tv.

End of catrant...

Brighid,

Sorry but I got turned off of wrestling a long tme ago.

I was in the hospital in labor with our second child and all my husband wanted to do was watch wrestling. I tried to talk and breath. He watched wrestling. When one program ended he surfed until he found another one. This was back when all of the stations were filled with wrestling all night long and I had to wait for the Doctor to arrive the next morning to get things going. Humph!
