Here is a get rich quick scheme. Just search runaway bride and not only TV but a book and move deal. I know it is free enterprise but don't you think she should reimburse the city the full amount?
Company Gets Runaway Bride's Media Rights By DANIEL YEE, Associated Press Writer
4 minutes ago
ATLANTA - Runaway bride Jennifer Wilbanks has struck a deal for a TV project about her misadventures, irritating some people in her hometown.
ReganMedia, which publishes books and produces TV shows and movies, said Thursday that it has acquired all media rights to the stories of Wilbanks and her fiance, John Mason. The New York company did not say whether any money had changed hands.
In a statement, company President Judith Regan called the tale "an unexpected and compelling story of love and forgiveness that has certainly taught me a thing or two."
ReganBooks has published novels such as Wally Lamb's "I Know This Much Is True" and celebrity titles such as Gen. Tommy Franks' "American Soldier."
The 32-year-old nurse disappeared from her Duluth home on April 26, four days before a wedding that was supposed to have 600 guests and 28 attendants. After taking a bus to Albuquerque, N.M., she claimed she was abducted and sexually assaulted, but later recanted, saying she fled because of unspecified personal issues.
Wilbanks pleaded no contest earlier this month to telling police a phony story and was sentenced to two years of probation and 120 hours of community service. She also was ordered to continue mental health treatment and pay the sheriff's office $2,550.
Duluth spent nearly $43,000 to search for her. Wilbanks has repaid $13,249.
News of her deal infuriated local officials and residents.
"I guess that says more about this whole case than anything else that has happened. I'm really sort of disgusted by the whole thing," said Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter.
He lamented that anyone would pay "for what is just a silly story," but said Wilbanks had the legal right to make the deal. "There was no way I could prevent it," he said.
Lydia Sartain, Wilbanks' attorney, did not immediately return a call for comment.
Duluth resident Dave Stowers suggested Wilbanks donate money from any deal to improve the city's parks. "Asking the city to forgive that amount of money sends a negative message to the community, in my opinion," Stowers said.

Libra, I think she will hounded and guilted into giving them some more money! lol! If she doesnt, she will be seen as a bad bad apple.
Of course it infuriates the officials. But they act like the money to fund her search came out of their own pockets!! Now everytime somebody calls for a cop and its nothing, a fender bender maybe - do they get to say its a waste of their time and they should be reimbursed for it?

The women on the View are caddies...I didn't even know they played golf!
Dble, an accident is just that, an accident.
She did her little gig on purpose and lied to authoritites....that's against the law. If you fake a crime you should have to pay back the money spent on your farce...it could've been used for handling a real crime.

Well, I dont know where you live crowfarm, but over here there are some accidents cops wont even write up a report for. They only thing they do is act as mediator to make sure you exchange insurance information. Which people should be able to handle themselves. Thats a waste of a call as well, if youre looking at all the stupid things they have to answer to.

and besides, I dont believe what she did and what she said was all premeditated.
Theres a lot more people out there that should be persecuted..er prosecuted for what they doing everyday. She was just a f/u'd woman. Do you think in her wildest dreams she thought the media would spur a massive man hunt for her?>
I doubt it.

As usual, youre an idiot. Let me spell it out for ya.
The topic, the issue, is authorities time being wasted and them getting reimbursed for it. ok, dumbell?

no, I didnt miss it. She was or is being prosecuted for her mistake. She paid her fine per her plea deal - what do you want from her for it, blood? She should have to pay for the rest of her life?
The point is, they (the authorities) time and efforts gets wasted all the time by all sorts of people and issues. Thats their job, too damn bad!

Well DB as much as it pains me,I have to agree with crow on this one.First of all your above statement is correct. Here in N.Y.we only fill out accident reports if the damage is over $1,000.However most people cannot do this on their own as most of them are unaware you dont need an accident report for minor damage. So its not really a waste of a call because the officer will also check to see if any of the operators are DUI.I think crows point is that this was a lot more serious then your average complaint.Yes people lie and make up stories to get out of trouble, but
to say you were abducted and rape is extremely serious. Not to mentioned the money and man hours then went into this investigation. The money is one thing, but the hundreds of man hours alone is unbelieveable. The interviews that had to be conducted and all the paper work that had to be done.Since she claimed she was kidnapped,Im sure she must have given some description of a vehicle. Now you have every police dept from N.C. to Nevada looking for this vehicle.Do you realize how many agencies would be involved in this.I got to tell you if were the agency heading up this investigation and found out this whole thing was bogus,I would be EXTREMELY PISSED OFF.
"The point is, they (the authorities) time and efforts gets wasted all the time by all sorts of people and issues. Thats their job, too damn bad!"
Thats a bad attitude-does it happen yes it does. However I would hate to see the day if someone ever broke in your house and you were screaming over the 911 phone for help and the person on the other end said "well we dont have anyone to send right now-hes on a "wasted call" but lady I know you will understand because thats our job."

I'm sure some (if not most) of us have been in situations where we feel there is no way out and when we find one and take it, it leads us into some sort of trouble. I think when we have experienced this, it was as children or teenagers. Not as adults. However, I doubt any of us have taken a way out that has cost this much money, time, aggravation, worry and grief. What she did was an extremely childish and immature act that hurt a great number of people. Maybe she needs to be read the story about the boy who cried wolf daily for a year.
The act itself was not illegal. She had the right to disappear. However, it was the lies told when she decided to be "found" that upset people more than the act of disappearing itself. Now to be making money from an act that goes beyond that of extreme stupidity borders on reprehensible. I think her profits should be used to pay back the authorities and perhaps the rest should go into a fund to assist persons who are the victims of real crimes. IOW, she shouldn't profit from anything here.
Like where dbl lives, unless someone is hurt or the accident seriously impairs traffic the police don't come. You can call them, but what they will tell you is to come down to the station to fill out a report. It is up to you to gather witness statements, get the insurance and driver's license information of the other party involved and to have your car removed if necessary. They are too busy with other crimes and minor traffic accidents are at the bottom of their list. Of course, the fact that a good portion of our law enforcement men and women have been laid off plays a big part in that.

Cheryl-what you said is absolutely true.Your last paragraph does disturb me some what.I guess every state is different.I cant imagine the police not going out to an accident. We go out to every accident-is it necessary? no not all of them, but we still go.We have to draw diagrams on pre-printed forms to show how the accident happened and who was at fault-I'm sure your insurance company wants to know this if you intend to file a claim. If the two parties come to the station to fill out accident reports, they have left the scene and there would be no way to tell who was at fault. They could both claim it was the other one who was at fault. If I got a dollar for everytime I heard "it wasnt my fault" or "I didnt do it" I'd be richer then Bill Gates. Also was one of the drivers intoxicated? or was it a driver like DB who enjoys driving in the passing lane below the speed limit, impeding traffic while on a cell phone, doing her make up and reading a newspaper..all at the same time.We give out "DWHUA" tickets to drivers like DB(driving while head up ass)<snicker>

classic well of course I was putting on my mascara, but I wasnt talking on a cell phone!! lol!!
And you know what? I still disagree with you both. Cheryl, the media put her whole 'big mistake through the ringer that doesnt happen to 'most' people, either. And classic you know what...had they done some investigating before they all took off like jack-rabbits out of hole, maybe so much man power would not have been spent on this! I thought law enforcement was supposed to be cynical and cautious, not gullible and impetuous. I suppose because the media was involved they felt pressured to resolve this. But this was all those different agencies decision alone to dedicate the amount man hours and what not. Who told them it had to be done this way? Who made them do it?
And there is another side to this imo. Sometimes you see cops riding up and down doing nothing, or hanging out in 7-11's or restaurants getting free coffees...but they're all so busy. ya rite. Sorry, they have their own shtick going on too.
She will probably give the 'city' or agencies more money out of it as some forever restitution. But its her friggin life!! She didnt go shopping a story around about it, they came to her and wanted to produce it.
Commercialism and debt; its the American way!

Your previous posts are so anti-cop that my post may have been an assumption but it was based on your obvious dislike of the police.....that usually comes after a bad experience.
Seeing what you're like..belligerent and combative....I can easily assume there may have been a problem at one time.
In this instance the police DID their job and you're bi1ching about THAT!

What *I* said is: thats their job..too damn bad.
As usual, you when it comes to intelligence and deciphering any truth out of anything you rank a zero. You know nothing about my feelings on law enforcement. I think they are like anybody else. Some are good, and some are sheer asholes! So because I am not afraid to say it, and acknowledge that that is a reality I am anti-cop to you? Tell me anybody who likes getting a ticket and thinks the cop that gave it to them is just swell? When it comes to understanding anything about human behavior you are such a idiot. She only corrects the ones that come back and chastise her so just ignore her and you will feel better. Does she correct anyone elses spelling? If not I wonder why. But who gives a rats azz. When she can't attack the poster then she diverts back to spelling errors. Remember this RT is a discussion board but to her it is a spelling lesson. That's grade school stuff. I bet if her mother is alive she corrects her to.
She is a sad pitiful person with no meaning in this life. She has nothing to looks forward to so this is the way she feels better. Attack a poster instead of keeping with the thread. If she doesn't like your opinion or you spell wrong then she attacks, just like a panther.
Classic then you don't live where there is snow. In the wintertime many car accidents happen and if there is no injury they do go to the police station as there isn't enough policemen to cover them all. Some days there are 60 car accidents. You know those southern people don't know how to drive in snow. Given a inch of snow means disaster. Oh those body shops love it though.

DB-if this case had been for real, how long do you think they should wait before they do anything about it??? When someone tells you that they have been abducted, raped and assaulted, you assume they are telling you the truth until proven other wise. You do the intital interviews and if you feel its legitmate you act on it immediately-especially a crime of this nature. If the abductors had a vehicle, you want to apprehend them asap. The longer you wait, the harder it gets.So you see them riding up and down doing nothing?? LOL They have a patrol area they are assigned to.What they are looking for is accidents, disabled vehicles or if they are in a residential area checking on suspcious vehicles hanging out in the area that might be planning a robbery.YOU SHOULD BE GLAD THEY'RE THERE.Hanging out in 7-11's and resturants?? Ya mean officers are not allowed a coffe break or lunch break?? What job on this planet does not allow you a coffee or lunch break?? ya thats some shtick they got going ROFLMAO!!
"Sounds like someone has has some experience with the police herself and came out on the short end of the stick and now has a permanent bias against anything they do......wonder who THAT could be "
LOL crow-what gave you that idea??...oh yea now I remember the thread.I cant think of the name of the thread, but it was where the cops in Compton,Ca put 100 bullets in some suspects car.Yea DB went screaming about the Police using excessive force. But if you read the thread a little further it got even better as she went on another tangent about being pulled over when some dude cut her off when she was driving in the passing lane under the speed limit impeding traffic.I dont remember exactly what axe she had to grind-maybe because when she was pulled over, the officer refused to hand-cuff her and do dirties to her in the back seat of the patrol car<snicker> or maybe it had something to do with a forlorned lover who actually knew the police officer and she thought she was being picked on..."classic" really cant remember, but if you read the thread, its all there in black and white LOL

Llalibra says, "She is a stupid idiot ""
OK, now that we know Libra is quite capable of calling names even when she doesn't read the poster's posts()let's check out the rest.
""She is a sad pitiful person with no meaning in this life. She has nothing to looks forward to so this is the way she feels better.(Libra the Mystic,Sees All, Knows All

(too bad Libra has Dble on ignore or she would've seen who "attacked" who)

So sorry Libra can't address the topic but blathers on and on about nothing. Hey Libra how about another oh so intelligent comment about drivinng cars in buildings...you were really sounding ga-ga then
Here's the really stupid part:""Classic then you don't live where there is snow. In the wintertime many car accidents happen and if there is no injury they do go to the police station as there isn't enough policemen to cover them all. Some days there are 60 car accidents. You know those southern people don't know how to drive in snow. Given a inch of snow means disaster. Oh those body shops love it though"
Talk about incoherent rambling !
First: When there's a big snow storm and lots of accidents NO ONE goes to the police station. The highway patrol can't handle all the fender benders and people are encouraged to handle non-injury accidents themselves...it's COMMON SENSE(sorry Libra, I know that's scary)
Second: SOUTHERN people don't know how to drive in snow !!!????
What the F---? You REALLY think that when we have a snowstorm a bunch of people quickly drive up from Florida and have accidents? These are NORTHERN people who have lived in the north all their lives you old goof ball!
Third: Body shops ??? What ????
Libra, before ya start with the stone throwing check out your own glass house...you have the common sense of a koala !

Libra, I just love you to pieces!!! Honestly, I do! Yeah "it" is like somebody's idea of an annoying bot on this site. ***And LOL, now youre saying ''ratz azz!!?' omg!! This board is a becoming a bad influence on you -dont you think?!
Classic, you know what? That 'was' excessive force and it was a stupid stupid move on their part. And I'll say it. I dont care. They are public servants and they better remember that at all times. And furthermore, they are open to criticism from the public like anybody else on the taxpayers payroll! *You wont admit it, but even cops that have half a brain will acknowledge it was stupid and reckless thing to do. As if they view themselves in war zone out there? That is what I asked? Whats going on here?! But somebody needs to tell them its not Iraq-okay? Now some of them are so psychologically whacked they shouldnt be walking around with a badge let alone a gun on their waist. I'm sorry, but yes, I know cops, but its not from being in trouble with them.
Classic, you are just like my husband - a hardheaded stubborn man that doesnt see that what the double says is always right and true. ::shrug:: She is just gifted that way One day you'll come to learn, and you'll just be awed with amazement that I was your friend all along and told you the truth every step of the way, but you just didnt want to hear it
