I heard on the news China is increasing the value of the Yen and decreasing the value of the dollar. This will increase prices on items coming from China. It will make prices higher at Wal-mart and K-Mart go up,should make Christmas interesting this year.

It's not as if they are doubling. We are only talking a few cents here.
The big issue is going to be the reinstated importation quotas on clothing items. Walmart buyers and Chinese manufacturers were short sited in their decision to flood the market and what could have been a long term windfall turned into a very short term one because of their lack of foresight.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

I can tell you from experience that the over-priced crap from China is better than the over-priced crap from Pakistan.

Walmart said they are going to attract upscale buyers with upscale goods, buyers who are not hurt by rising gas price.

Walmart slithers into a town with promises of low prices(and guarantees of low wages) and then raises it's prices after "settling in". It is their standard plan, nothing different.

Slithers in is right! WalMart is now coming to Cleveland and I hate it. Cleveland used to have many great department stores located downtown that are now gone thanks in part to the great migration to suburbs. I remember as a child traveling to downtown with my mother. We lived in a dinky, sleepy town about an hours drive from downtown (now it's about 20 minutes and a bustling city). It was a big deal. We'd get all dressed up in our good cloths and shop at Halles (long gone), Higbees (gone, too), The May Co. (also gone) and Sterling-Lindner (they had a great Christmas tree). When we were done shopping, we'd stop at Woolworths for a burger and soda or if mom had extra money left over, we'd have lunch at the May Co. Now, stores like WalMart and all of the malls make shopping more convenient. IMO, the fun has gone out of it. It's a shame our children and grandchildren will never experience the thrill of it. The quality of the things we bought were also better. I still have many of my dresses I had as a child and they've been worn by both my daughter and granddaughter.

I agree, the same thing in Danville they ruined a great city. I hate Wal-Mart,and it makes me sick that almost everything they carry comes from China.
