I have often heard it said that different Races have their own distinct odor..I must admit that I haven't found this to be true, but then I haven't really been up close and personal with other races.
I tend to believe that it depends on the kinds of food you eat.
So is it a myth that each Race has their own odor?

I don't think it's true. Except for Californians, you can smell them a mile away.

At the risk of offending Cheryl, I will say yes. But only because of the different foods they eat.

That's what I thought..but I do believe what you eat influences how you smell.. don't you?
Like do Indian people smell like curry? Or Asian people like noodles? Mexican people like bean burritos? White people like sour milk and black people like musk?

The risk of offending me? What's that supposed to mean, bear? I take you to be Caucasian, same as me. That means you're applying your comment to yourself.

Edited to add: I know a couple of people from India. Yes, they do have a different smell. Curry. They cook with it and the smell stays with them.

They sweat it. Curry is not bad...Garlic is bad. I love the smell of garlic, I love the taste of garlic but garlic sweat has got to be the worst.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

If we all shower/bath and use deordorant and change our clothes daily and wash our hair often, the odor will be rather subtle.
Indian smell curry,it could also be from their clothes and hair, worse, they cook curry everyday in their kitchen and you can never get rid of that odor as it gets into the wall and ceiling, not to mention drapes and fabric, the saying is that dont buy a house from the indians as you would not be able to get rid of the odor.
The Asians such as chinese complain caucasian have a mutton odor -this traced back to old days when the caucasian they encounter are from the outer regions of china such as the tartans, cossacks, nomadic tribes and they do eat a lot of mutton.
But westerners such as English complain asian have a porky odor, from eating too much pork,i dont know if you cook the pork to death, could there still be a pork odor,or are they referring to all the scallion, ginger, soy sauce ,wine used in the cooking??
Another thing which add to the possible odor is the way they stirfry in a wok, where the oil is heated up and splatter all over the hair and clothes,if you dont wash your hair and change your clothes daily, you could walk around with the wok odor, next time,go to a chinese restaurant and see how the kitchen is like, high intense heat 65 BTU and up.
Then the African ,they said the odor is natural and drive the animal away, good defense!!
The korean use garlic, unlike the French and the Italian, their love affair with garlic is making garlic soup and adding raw garlic to their diet, they love it,the more they consume, the harder working they become, those who patronise a korean run grocery store or a fish market in NYC can testify to it.
The Vietnamese,i heard does have a raw pork dish, where pork is chopped very fine and eaten raw,I have not ever seen or heard of it,check it out.
I would say the Japanese is odorless,as they are always washing and scrubbing and cleaning,I have walked into many japanese stores which display octopus and squid and sea urchin and never smell anything.
so much for my 2 cents.

Oh,i forget about Burma, see places where there are a lot of fog where the sun does not shine directly on low plains and valleys,it is easy to get fungus and bacterial ,parasitic infection, and the Burmese will take a garlic bulbs and peel and pop some in their mouth .try it,better than buying garlic pills from walgreen.

I guess I'd say yes and no.

I agree when in an elevator with Indian's I almost gag they really emit a terrible smell. And I've been told it's because of the spices they use.

I've never smelled anything from my Japanese DIL when we hug. Unless she uses a shampoo that smells good.

And my [white] in-laws take garlic pills each day....and I can smell them a block away. And they do shower everyday....and use clean/fresh clothes each day.

I guess it's no different than people who smoke [cigarettes/cigars/pipes/pot]....you can usually smell it on them.

So, I guess not because of their race, but rather because of their 'actions/personal habits'.

Very interesting post, Stop! There is also the smell of the stuff Indians and African Americans sometimes use in their hair that smells..I don't know what it is called. I was married to a Frenchman once and he didn't smell different..
Actually, everyone has their own individual scent, isn't that what the pheromone and sexual attraction thing is all about.. To bad our dogs can't talk they'd sure tell us a thing or two about who smells like what.. they have the best sniffers going!

Europeans dont take bath/shower as often as americans do,some of the older european homes dont have shower facility.
I know Asians take a bath, not shower in the evening ,not in the morning.
I bet you in some part of China where in cold weather, they just wash their feet and lower part of their body with hot water.

I smell like fly wipe, sheep, horses, sweat, copenhagen and depending on the time of day, beer. When school's in session, I smell like sheep, alfalfa hay, and chalk.I do not smell like bean burritos. Good grief.

Wouldn't that be an improvement over fly wipe, sheep, horses, sweat, copenhagen, beer, sheep, alfalfa hay, and chalk?
