So, anyone go anywhere this summer? We went for overnight trips on the weekend here and there, but nothing much.
SO, we are leaving for a vacation tonight, until tuesday. Not long (in my book! ) but we are going to look at property in the desert also, we have an appt to look at an old farmhouse on 20 acres.
And I'm taking my oldest daughter and her boyfriend. Rented what this place calls a 'villa' and it sure looks like one from the pictures!
I so need to get away from here! (and as much as I love the grandbaby, I gotta get away!)
So anyone else do anything this summer?
oh and going so late we got the FALL rates
And its still plenty warm there!

Ron, I did hear that. Weren't they moving it?? I just remember a bit on the news last month.
I think his home was in Renton? (I could be wrong though)

Oh, we are heading east of the mountains. In state, but I'm telling you its like a totally different state over there. A lot of deserty areas, and yes a lot of apple orchards! and they are opening up a lot of wineries over there.

Come on now NTS, fess up, you're really going off to search for Classic, aren't you. I know you miss him and you just can't stand it that he's not here and hasn't been for quite awhile.
Anyways, have a great time and we expect a full report when you return, especially on what gas prices are in other areas.

It sounds wonderful! Have a great time! We didn't get to do much this summer - all plans had to be put on hold due my dog's pregnancy and the arrival of the puppies in July.
They left yesterday for their new homes, all but one who is going this weekend. It's so quiet now! But it doesn't smell like poop anymore.
We are going to go to Aruba over Thanksgiving as our vacation since we didn't do anything this summer.

colin, nope no visit to the wineries, but bought some wine!
I never did find classic!
Gas was a few cents over $3 a gallon, it was more in eastern WA than here in Western WA
The place we stayed was nice, but there was no tv, no radio, AND NO PHONES! LOL, so Mike went nuts on how to get online, he has wi fi, but couldn't pick up anything over there! He found an internet cafe, but they were closed everytime he went and checked, thats a small town for you
And I got burnt like I never have before, spending all of Sunday, about 10 hours on the boat on the lake! ouch!
Didn't want to come back!
met appt with realtor, and passing on that one! We did check out some in Lake Chelan.. hopefully we can move there (the sooner the better for me!)
And it was good to get away. came back, and the grandkid has new amazing things she can do, like almost walking!

NearTheSea - So glad to hear you enjoyed yourself, even if you didn't want to come back home.
Sorry to hear you got sunburned so bad.....ouch...ouch. Hope nothing blisters.
Someday if you do buy a place over there....maybe you won't feel the need to 'escape' on a vacation ...as you'll already feeling like you're on a constant vacation. That's what I felt once we moved here. Haven't once felt the 'need' to run away from it all. Whereas before we always wanted to get away to either Tahoe, LV, etc...or up the CA coastline somewhere.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you on the move coming about in the near future. And poor Mike....that had to have been frustrating for him....but that's small town life for you.

Yeah it was good. I didn't miss TV a bit! We went to bed early and got up early to do things.
I am really not liking the Puget Sound area, and I was born and grew up here. Its changed so much.
There is a big difference back in Eastern WA, the first thing I noticed (and I was back there before the 2004 election) was huge signs on barns: Bush Cheny signs, still up. The marquee things on stores, motels, everywhere, had 'God Bless America' on them, totally different than here. Yes there are places that have those things here, but not as much as back there, it would be a red state, if it was its own state.
I think I would really like small town USA. People get more involved, and its much easier to meet your neighbors than in a big city like Seattle.
Thats my take on it. Course there are lots of places in the US like it, and maybe it won't be eastern WA I move to, but it will be a small town!

Linda, LOL, yep he was having email withdrawl or something! It was not earth shattering if he didn't get online, his work knew he would be gone, but that is what he was checking on.
As for no tv, radio, computers, I didn't miss them a bit.
Yeah its the first real sunburn in a long time, dummy me, didn't use sunscreen, but its ok now.
We came back in rush hour traffic in Seattle yesterday, talk about a CHANGE, from there! And it got depressing when we sat in it, knowing there is nothing like that back there.
Yep, I hope we will move there, the sooner the better!

I was supposed to go back to Denver tomorrow to house/dog sit, work on packing and start getting the yard sale garage (appparently half the garage is now boxes of things to be sold at yardsale) organized while the parental units headed down to check on construction of the new house but Hurricane Rita has put that all on hold. Looks like the house may get it's first structural test.
In the meantime, since I've already freed up my schedule, think I'll go down to Rosarito for the weekend. I think a healthy dose of lobster and margartias sounds just about perfect right now.

I have been to Kent a couple of times for the SOVERN races, but try to avoid Seattle area during the week.
Couple of years ago drove to the other Vancouver, and only pita traffic hit was Seattle. and this was early in the day.
I love Pikes Market and the Space needle on weekends of course.

Near - I have no idea where "Parental Units" started from... we used it back in boarding school where most of us considered it more appropriate than "parents" but thru the yeas it has lost it's animosity and just become a term of endearment.
Rosarito is in Mexico. It's about 45 minutes south of the border. Total tourist spot but great beaches, great food and great bars.

Boarding school! wow, I thought I had it bad in Parochial school! Kidding, actually I think it might be pretty good for kids.
Now I think I know where Parental Unit came from (I think! ) the Coneheads, who did start on SNL then became a movie. I think that is what they said?

Ron, I lived in Kent, Maple Valley and further out in the 'country' but still King County
The Sovern races? I'm taking a guess, but is that the vintage car races? if so, I've been to them! I think they were holding some in a Boeing area field. (in Kent)
Yea, doesn't matter where your coming from on I 5, as soon as you hit downtown Seattle, no matter what time of day, the damn traffic just bottlenecks right there. I hate it. And avoid it as much as possible.
Yes, been to the other Vancouver up north, and Victoria BC is nice. I've been to Vancouver WA and thought it a really neat town.
Have you been to Eastern WA? I think it is a lot like Eastern Oregon. Some deserty, some flat farm land. And hot as heck in Summer and cold and snow in Winter.

Near - just because some lurker might be seeing this and also think bording school would be a great idea.... STOP! NOW! Don't do it!!
Put it this way, no parent sends their kid off to boarding school because they just get along too well. Slightly troubled/rebelious kid heads off to remote location to join up with multitudes of other slightly troubled/rebelious kids. Each walks in with their own little bag of tricks which they gladly share with others and at the end of the day, they leave, not with a bag of tricks but with a full set of luggage chock full of them.
The school I went to is no longer a boarding school. They went to day students only. Probably for the best. It was an interesting premise but badly executed.

fenix, while your here did you get your copies of House from Netflix? I got 3 before I left, and used 3 2 1 and then lent them to my brother to do the same and now he has yet to send them back, because I believe its 2 more House discs in my queue.
I was watching one, and some I never saw before, they are priceless!
And the new series have been great too!
OH LOST is on tonight, the season premiere, and I know its not going to answer a lot of questions, ........ yet!

I have not had a chance to watch much lately. I never got into Lost last year so I think when I get back I'll get the DVDs and in the mean time set the DVD to record the new episodes. That way I won't be lost and I can check out E-Ring on NBC.
There are so many series this year that hold promise, my DVR is going to be very busy the next couple weeks till I figure out what is worth watching (listening to - I never watch anything but West Wing).

I can understand the people on that plane being happy but you know - if I just spent 3 1/2 hours to get from Burbank to LAX I think I might be pissed. The least they could have done is gone to Vegas so there was something other than traffic to look forward to.

Commander does look interesting (although conservatives are complaining that it is the liberal medias attempt to "soften up" the nation for a Hillary presidency).
Get West Wing DVDs!! Even if you hate the political view, I don't think you can deny that it is a smartly written show that especially in the first four seasons had a great mix of intelligence and humor.

woaw that pilot sure earned his pay! God, it was scary seeing the front wheel in flames, but damn! And of course talking over all of it, was Mike, how he was trained for just that years ago, when he was getting his pilots license, drives me crazy! He does this all the time....

Yea, I think I will check out West Wing (I just never cared for Martin Sheen, but his sons.... well, different story )

I've liked Martin ever since I was a little kid. There used to be a Sunday morning series that was these hour long dramas that at the end had some religious message to them that I would watch all the time (nothing else on). Sheen was on enough of them that I always recognized him and really liked him.
West Wing Season 3 was one of my favs since it not only had Sheen and Channing (liked her since I was about 7 years old) but then they added Oliver Platt and I was in heaven. Platt is my favorite smart comedy actor and Sorkin wrote to his strengths.
BTW - I have a bad feeling about the parental house. I've seen the added features for hurrican code construction and they are pretty impressive but.... it's on the coast. Oh well, at least they have not taken possession and is still the builders responsibility.
