Have any of you been watching the procedings? Lastnight i watched some of it and Senator Schumer from NY asked some good questions that didn't require any thoughts on law rulings and they were questions that got to the heart of who Roberts the man is. Schumer, in his way of asking his questions looked like a real acrobat with the way that he used his hands and body to make expressions. It was, imo, real entertaining.

Of course, i'm reserving my decision until after Saturday night.

He'll make it hands down. He's a good man all around.

I thought he equated himself very well, should be confirmed and I think he will be fair and impartial.

And Joe Biden came out looking like a total idiot.

roberts will slide through pretty easily unless some big bomb is dropped on him, but i don't see it happening.

biden was biden, and i chuckle every time he starts talking. most people either like biden or hate him, and personally i'm indifferent. the guy can look pretty intelligent at times, and other times he should lay low.

I think John Roberts is a good man - and the Senate knows it - the pontification of each one asking a question really got to me. Particularly Kennedy, as usual. I turned it off.

I think he'll sail right through the confirmation.

I would hope even those who hate Bush would agree that he has made some very good appointments - Roberts and Rice in particular.

Judge Roberts, Makes the Senators, look like they are sucking the rear end of a hog. And he does it without notes..

He affirmed that he believes there is a constitutional right to privacy.

He stressed the improtance of settled precedents in the law, and reaffirmed that he believes Roe v Wade is a settled precedent.

He said he believes the constitution needs to be flexible and adaptable through time, putting himself somewhat to the left of Scalia and Thomas and their originalist doctrine.

He either believes these things, or he's lying through his teeth to get the job. Time will tell.

Great analogy, Fred - I'm going to have to remember that one!

I don't agree profe, as your own words state "felxible" and "adaptable". If he goes along with the right, doesn't mean he was lying.

He was just being "adaptable"

The same will be true if he goes along with the left.

That is why I like this guy, more centered.

I have a feeling his first test will be "under God" in the pledge and I am willing to guess the 9th circuit will be overturned.

The 9th circuit should not only be overturned - but completely overhauled IMO!

Re: Roberts ... He's got a quick mind and seems to have a clear read on what his job is and is not. I'd approve him.

Re: Pledge of Alegence... I would like to see someone explain how organized recitation of it as it has stood since "Under God" was added IS NOT in violation of the constitution as to how it is stated... (as opposed to an interpretation of what it is believed the founders actually meant since I believe that would be considered utilizing judicial activism).

Could someone please tell me why, if they feel that the pledge of allegiance is so essential and important to our youth that it must be included in the school day, why not just remove the offending phrase. I thought the point was to pledge an individual allegiance to a nation, to to pledge a nations allegiance to a specific diety.

The democratic leaders look like fools when asking their questions of Robert's. I think more than once he's tried not to laugh at something they've asked.
He is so intelligent he makes them all look like what they are....typical long-term politicians that are totally out of touch with the majority of American's.
---------

Yes, Robert's will be confirmed....no doubt about it. Yes, he will honor our Constitution and will, imo, require the legislators in the states to MAKE law....and not allow judges to do the same...it's not their job.

-----------

And I agree with your last post, 100%, Caroline. That 9th circuit has been over-ruled almost 9 out of the 10 times their 'rulings' LOL make it to the USSC. They should be disbanded immediately, imo. What a waste of taxpayer dollars they are.

--------------

And on Joe Biden....he looked the MOST foolish, imo. He often talks before thinking.

And why the American Voters chose to RE-elect President Bush to four more years. YES!!!

He did look like he was trying not to laugh at some of those questions, didn't he! I thought it was just me thinking that. Makes me like him even more, since most of the questions were laughable.
