Walker county has been declared a disaster area, so hopefully I can get at least a partial refund on the gasoline purchases. If not (having kept all my receipts) I'll file with the Texas comptrollers office for a refund on the tax paid on the gas because if was used for off road usage."
Can you say public assistance???

gotta laugh at that one....
typical progressive/ultra lib....complains that the poor who suffered aren't being helped enough....then when those who have been hit by the hurricanes have a chance to be helped....he's complaining about them being on/given assistance.
They're just NEVER happy.....or maybe rusty only feels poor dems who were effected by the hurricanes deserve help....but any republican doesn't.

Typical lack of simple reading & comprehension skills as demonstrated by a supposed college educated demoncrat.
Dumbo, were you capable of understanding what I had written you would see now where did I demand, (unlike your true typical demoncrat) reimbursement for my expenses.
Were I as welfare junkie, I would demand the gasoline be provided at no cost to me and delivered and placed in my tank. Or better yet demand a larger, more fuel efficient generator or even be housed in a local motel at no expense to me, untill the power is restored.
Should I qualify for reimbursement fine, if not thats fine too. You won't see me protesting to the local media that I was discriminated against (again unlike your typical demoncrat).
Dumbo, you really should find something else to smoke, its eroding what few brain cells you have left. But I guess in your case it helps you continue the illusion that you are a human being.

When you need it, our government should be there to help during a time of crisis. ron- i shouldn't have answer that question because you already know the truth. most gov't assistance programs work and work well, especially those from the bi-partisan cooperation between Clinton and Gingrich's efforts. there is always going to be a small group that abuse the system, and you should also know how many are Republicans (many live out in the lower SE towards Milwaukee in Felony Flats). you know as well as i do of the stereotypes given towards welfare recipients. they exist because some times they are true, but more importantly, most of the time they are not. how many times have you witnessed someone make a derogotory remark about someone being poor? do you enjoy it? do you agree? do keep your real opinion to yourself, or do you speak up even if you don't know the person saying it?
i've seen too many people to count that were on public assistance and do everything to get off of it as soon as possible. a majority of those on public assistance are embarrassed of pulling out an Oregon Trail Card (equivelant of Food Stamps) at the grocery register. others are not. I've personally had to buy groceries for shut-ins and the mentally ill who receive assistance. It is a very wierd experience, and I always found myself wanting to explain I was buying for someone else. People like that will always be part of the system, and truthfully they have no choice. There is something natural in the human mind to want to work. Part of it is our American culture and part of it is just ingrained in our minds. Work and livable wages only help the picture, but when someone needs help, they shouldn't feel ashamed to ask. This is why I pick on those who always voice their opinions until they are struck with similar circumstances. Intelligent people learn from tragedy and realize the err of past thought, others make excuses or make it out to be "different" because it is them and not those awful people sucking america dry. perfect example, is Druggy Limbaugh.

You know -I gotta say - the guitar thing just makes those that bring it up look like idiots. Bush was in San Diego adressing military members that morning. One of the performers at the event presented him with a guitar. What was he supposed to do... tell him to shove it? there were many things that Bush did wrong i dealing with Katrina but being gracious enough to accept the gift was not one of them.
Maybe he should not have gone to a public speaking event that morning and he should be called to the carpet for that but as long as he was there, why was accepting the gift of the guitar wrong? It's not as though he gets to keep it anyway. It's just going to end up being sold on eBay by the same guy that has sold 32 pieces of Tiffany Crystal that were all given to Cheney by the Kuwaiti Ambassador (Either the seller is falsifying some documents or the Kuwaits presented the Cheneys with a fully stocked Tiffany store).

Yes, Bush was addressing the Military and received a guitar while New Orleans was flooding. After that Bush was eating cake at a party while New Orleans was flooding.
What Bush was not doing was on his way to New Orleans like he should have been.
When CON-servatives can't defend the damage their CON-servative form of Government has done to America they bring up old history.
A example of this would be if I said Nixon should not of formed a relationship with China. Kennedy should not have invaded the Bay Of Pigs. Bush one should have finished Iraq off when he had the chance.
I focus on the damage Bush 2 and his CON-servative house members are doing to America now.
I also believe its important to start stopping the flood of damage being done to the majority of Americans. Vote against CON-servative House members in the 2006 Elections.

Nope.
.....It illustrates his insensitivity and lack of focus to appear playing a guitar during a natural disaster. The guitar was not a surprise to him or to the secret service.

So, Helen - the President should have been rescuing people from flood waters. Please - get a grip.
Rusty - you need to get a grips as well. Bear has paid in to the system via taxes - property and income - welfare recipients rarely make pay any taxes - we pay for them to get money. Bear has paid his dues - he deserves a reimbursement for that expense.

"welfare recipients rarely make pay any taxes - we pay for them to get money."
where do you get your facts for stupid statements like that? most people who end up on welfare do so for the same 3 reasons people end up in bankruptcy... 1) job loss 2) divorce or seperation 3) medical. you neocons really drink the kool aid way too much and have really lost grip with reality.
"Bear has paid his dues - he deserves a reimbursement for that expense."
So, are you saying you are drawing a line? How do you know Bear has paid his dues? How much dues has he paid? Where is that line drawn? Where the neocons draw it I suppose... It is absolutely shameful to make assumptions about those who receive assistance. I imagine your family are pretty corrupt since they work in government too. See where stereotypes go? Talk about immature and uneducated.

Who questioned your education?
You have posted an unusual amount of personal information in your defense. To prove your support of troops - which was never questioned either, you posted your husband's employment throughout his military service to present employment. And in defense of my nonsense returned for your nonsense, you have now posted your IQ along with your education level including the school that you attended. Throughout the few years that I have posted on this board, you are alone in your need to provide such detailed data --- apparently in an effort to present yourself as a thinking individual. If your information is true, you obviously need to **use** your good intelligence.
Your concept of logic...."Here is my question, as I am hopelessly logical - where is she showering and using the restroom? Does she leave to go to a local hotel to shower & go to the bathroom and then return, or do you think there are facilities there?"
That statement is hopelessly inconsequential as are most of your posts...apparently driven by the Drudge report that you recommend so highly.
In deference to your self professed *genius* I will try to ignore your efforts to communicate here.

carolinetyler said, "B.S. from University of Maryland School of Business - one of the best undergrad business schools" and "IQ of 139 - just under genius in some classifications, gifted in others".
With those gifts you should be one of the first to say HOW CAN I HELP THE LESS GIFTED.
A NEOCON says I am SMART,GIFTED AND EDUCATED,I'VE GOT!!!
A Liberal says, I am SMART,GIFTED AND EDUCATED. HOW CAN I HELP!!!
So carolinetyler your "B.S." doesn't impress me. Your stuck in the DRUDGE for sure.

No Linda. You have it all wrong.
lol...No, I don't have anything 'wrong', rusty. It's you who is trying to make both welfare and assistance the same, not I.
You have neocon Bear here who complains about welfare recipients, then when Bear needs assistance, it isn't the same. Assistance is assistance.
No, assistance isn't assistance. One is long term the other because of an act of Nature. MUCH different.
When you need it, our government should be there to help during a time of crisis.
Says who? Why can't you ultra-liberals see that strong, self-sufficient people have always been able to care for themselves. While socialism encourages people to become and remain dependent on your 'nanny' government.
The problem is that you neocons only deem it worthy when you need it, not when others need it and for that you are hypocrites.
No rusty, it's only your own confusion that makes it appear that way to you. Conservatives are and do support people being helped, in times just like these with the hurricanes, NOT those who look for government handouts for generations.
But you go ahead and twist it any which way you want.
LOL...no twist....the truth and pointing out that all assistance is not equal.
You made another statement that wasn't factual either. More than 1/2 of welfare receiptents are single mothers with children. Most of those who had children out of wedlock.
The breakdown of marriage, the continuing lack of education, unwed births by young women who can't support themselves, let alone a child/children end up throwing most women on welfare....not the three items you said has.
---------------------
Oh boy, Caroline, have you shown helen her place. LOL She admires education more than anything I've ever seen her mention here. And now that you have set her straight on your personal credentials....she's having trouble coming up with anything more than...."I will try to ignore your efforts to communicate here.".....
....which she can't do even after she's said she will a thousand times. Take it from one who knows she just has no self-control in that area.
