BAD NEWS FOR THE WORKING POOR. GREAT NEWS FOR THE GREEDY AND HEARTLESS.

Senate effort to raise minimum wage fails
Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Senate proposals to raise the minimum wage were rejected today, making it unlikely that the lowest allowable wage, $5.15 an hour since 1997, will rise in the foreseeable future.

The Kennedy amendment to a spending bill went down 51-47, and the GOP alternative 57-42. Under a Senate agreement, they would have needed 60 votes for approval.

I HEARD SINCE 1997 THESE "LAW MAKERS" HAVE GIVEN THEMSELVES OVER $25,000 IN RAISES.

So let them get off their lazy azzes, get an education (Gov grants are available !) and get a better paying job....

Even better that a Gov grant, Sheepa, why don't you sponsor a dozen or so of them, move them in with you, feed them, give them part time jobs (since you're willing to pay more than $5.15 a hour). No need to even get the gov involved.

Hey Bear, of course you had to cover yourself. Because you know that over 60% of people in poverty work full time don't you. The majority of people in poverty aren't in poverty because they are "LAZY".

defogger you should be dancing in the streets. No raise for 7 years is exactly what NEOCONS like you want anyway I spell it.

Just proves my argument Sheepa, if they really wanted to improve themselves the would find a way.

I was out of work, went back to school fulltime then managed to get a fulltime job at Compaq paying all of $6.00 per hour.

Shows if you want something bad enough you can find a way.

Bear, working for $6.00 per hour full time today is working for chump change.

Over 40 years ago I and millions of other people made over $8.00 an hour working part time in a Union shop. But of course I know those times are gone and I should not have even mentioned it. I really don't like bring up the past and rarely bring it up.

I would rather fight to change the injustice being done to middle and working class Americans today. The injustice brought on by the CON-servative form of government we all live under today.

And you are still dodging the subjet you raised. If the poor don't like their standard of living and the wages they can earn, GO BACK TO SCHOOL and get a education to support themselves.

Bear, that is to simple a solution for most of the liberals to understand. The person would actually have to put forth some effort of thier own and not let the government give it to them on a platter.

The left in this country has made a culture of people who want nothing but handouts will not lift one finger to help themselves.

Bigpeepa, they CAN'T raise minimum wages because inflation is starting to take hold, (even though the U.S. economy is growing). It would stifle growth numbers from big businesses and accelerate inflation. Bush can't afford that right now.

"The left in this country has made a culture of people who want nothing but handouts will not lift one finger to help themselves."

Twelve, I'm sure many people will abuse any free system, but for the ones that need it - the aged, the children from dysfunctional families, the injured, etc., aid could be a life saver. To make the whole group out to be leeches not only shows how uncompassionate you are but narrow-minded as well.

A prime example being the "Projects" in New Orleans....Doing nothing more than breeding more leaches..

Ron,
The right wing in this country has made a culture of people that have very few or no choices left.

My post was about law makers. Law makers that voted against raising the Federal Minimum Wage from $5.15 per hour. Law makers that with few exceptions followed party line.

So once again you and Bear have forced me to point out your NEOCON CON-servative KEY WORDS like "lazy, personal choice, personal effort, education, hand outs, won't lift a finger" do not apply to my post.

The majority of Americans now recognize NEOCON key words for what they are. Key words used by people of the CON-servative mind set that are desperate. Desperate because the CON-servative form of government they support has failed America.

Actually they do apply to your post peepa, all valid reasons not to increase the minimum wage.

Washingtonebayer, who's trying to bully anyone into anything? You get all defensive when I call you Twelve - how come? Maybe he was adored by many here. Why do you assume it's a bad thing, you being a new poster and all?

Who tried to bully you, washingtonebayer? No one that I remember. Just because I wouldn't agree to meeting you when you tried to bully me same as I wouldn't agree to meeting twelvepole when he tried to do the same.

Kraft and I are unique, we would never want you to think like we do..... besides, it would be impossible for you to do. You seem to be more the type that would think like...........

twelvepole.

Oh geez Kiara, Washingtonebayer isn't going to like us now. But then, he doesn't come here to laugh. He comes here to tell everyone who he wants killed and who are leeches - a real diamond in the rough.

Near, I am not twelvepole.

But if it makes those who do little to contribute to the board to think so, nothing I can do about it.

edited to add: you notice how they can't discuss the topic or some other topic but must discuss a poster. Board is so much nicer now they have limited time here.

NearTheSea - I agree....I have never once felt Washingtonebayer is twelvepole.

But Ron....I for one certainly hope you have better taste than this:

kiara stated: Just because I wouldn't agree to meeting you when you tried to bully me same as I wouldn't agree to meeting twelvepole when he tried to do the same.

I don't think Ron is twelve. He might be eleven but he's not twelve.

It's like how they are allways accusing me of being someone else too.....i don't get it.

LoL Pi!

Yeah right. Washingtonebayer isn't Twelvepole. LoL!!

And if you're referring to Kiara and myself not contributing to this board, you'd be wrong again, Washingtonebayer. I remember Twelve saying the same thing, yet he contributed nothing to the betterment of anything... similar to the way you post.

washingtonebayer, I'm no match for the deep knowledge and riveting topics that only you can contribute each day and I just can't keep up with the pace of the board any longer.
