Nothing on the FEMA web site about that.

I gave my liberal neighbors son a book for his birthday. He went crazy trying to find where to put the batteries.

On the other hand legal action maybe in order if that comes true.

Will it be considered a loan, Maggie?

Previously there was a 27,200 maximum loan that victims could apply for.

I heard most of the New Orleans group will get a used shopping cart and a $20. gift certificate from the Salivation Army, to be used in the store only. Another $20 certificate for 7 11 for anything but colt 45 and slurpies.

More then some of them deserve.

The ones that deserve help are the ones that had homes and their insurance didn’t cover the damage.

The renters should have had renters insurance.

My cousin could use that money also but she's on the Mississippi coast and like you, she had insurance.

Maggie, FEMA also declared the one time this is it payment for zip codes on 3 Mississippi gulf coast counties...Jackson, Hancock and ??? Harrison I think. Call your local emergency management office and get information.

Also call the State Insurance Commissioner's office. George Dale is the man's name. File a complaint and find out what is going on in the state house about the insurance fiasco. You aren't the only not getting kissed while being royaly rogered.

Consult your lawyer too.

I read this on MSN home page a couple of days ago. I can't find the link now. I know rumors are flying fast and furious. Call the clarion ledger or the paper on the coast for confirmation if you have any doubts.

maggie- it is quite perplexing to me how these things work. my girlfriend just finished chemotherapy after being diagnosed with lymphoma in March. what is perplexing are the circumstances of how she ended up on the Oregon Health Plan. she worked for an eye doctor who is a little sh!thead. he's being hunted by the IRS for tax evasion and was getting several letters a month from them. he offered a health plan, was collecting $$ from his employees towards their health plans, but... wasn't actually paying for them. of course, he denies it, claiming it was an administrative screwup. unfortunately, people were dropped and couldn't be added again without waiting til their fiscal year closed. at that point, she decided to cut her hours back and look for another job. then she found out about her lymphoma. to this day, she is still on as she continues through follow-ups, etc. She was actually fortunate that OHP was there for her and picked up her treatments and hospitalizations, etc. We also realized that if she had actually been covered by insurance via the Dr's office, her out of pocket costs would have been pretty high, and worse yet... they probably would have denied her claims. There isn't a day that goes by that I am thankful for living in such a wonderful state like Oregon. I just hope something will be done about that Dr. she worked for.

maggie and helen- I agree. It sucks when you, as a responsible property owner, carry insurance and suffer for it. It would somehow seem fitting if the government would give you the monies you are entitled to, then go after the insurance company for it.

working for an attorney and dealing with insurance adjusters, i know first hand how they work. you can be nice for only so long, then you have to play rough with the big boys. my experience is if you don't get results, then you have to hire an attorney.

insurance companies are out to do only one thing... make money. collect as much as they can, when they can, and pay out as little as possible and take as long as possible. my best suggestion is to collect as much information as possible, take photos, make lists, keep documents. that is your best ammo (with the exception of Colin's BB gun collection) for you to battle it out without an attorney.

They're handing out money according to ZIP CODES!???

How about according to NEED!

oh, ya, our country is run by people who don't believe in helping those in need.....

Could it be that those in the selected zip codes are of lower income than others.

Hows that for need?
