Winter is coming up and many animals are abandoned and in shelters. If you have time, please donate all your old towels and blankets to these shelters. They also need used cat and dog beds. If you have a bit of money you'd like to donate to a good cause, go buy some cat and dog food and drop it off so you know your money is going right to the animals. Thanks.

That's some great suggestions, KD.
But I hope people will remember BEFORE giving donations to PETA....that they killed all those animals they led the public to believe they were saving/protecting.

Ron - It was in the news...when they were charged with killing hundreds of animals a WEEK.
Here is part of what wikipedia.org says about their organization:
Newkirk responded to the media attention with the statement: "PETA has never made a secret of the fact that most of the animals picked up in North Carolina are euthanized." [37]
According to PETA's own filings with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 86.3% of the animals in its care in 2004. [38].
Similar filings for the Norfolk SPCA shelter, located 3.5 miles from the PETA headquarters, show that the Norfolk SPCA killed fewer than 5% of animals in its care. However, the Norfolk SPCA is reported to turn away many stray animals every week so they don't have to euthanize them, leaving this task to other local groups.
[39] PETA has defended its actions by saying there is inadequate care for the animals they receive, and that killing them humanely is a better fate then allowing them to live in inappropriate conditions.

Hmmm that is an interesting read,I never thought that would be into euthanization for quick. Not the org they make themselves out to be.

kraft- We take all of our old blankets and sheets to the ASPCA already. I also take clear bags for them to use for trash that would normally be thrown out where I work. Jazz picks these things up when she comes to visit and takes them there when she goes to work the next day.

We just saved Greta Tuesday evening from the Oregon Humane Society. She is a 3 month old Sheperd mix. She was a transfer from a Washington shelter that was overcrowded. There were many dogs that were transported in from Lousiana as well, but none were a good match for us.
There was one story there about a cocker spaniel who died the day we were there. He was blind and they found him in one of the levees in New Orleans. He was in real bad shape. Ironically, a woman came into our store yesterday afternoon who happen to be the person who rescued the cocker. She asked us if we saw the cocker, and we told her what happened. She didn't know he had passed on. It was quite sad.

Greta is soooooo cute! Here's our rescue dog. He was found on the streets starving with a shoe lace tied tightly around his neck. He's now 11 months old and a shepherd, collie, huskie mix. Don't let the face fool ya. He's a mischievous one!
