I was informed by my sister-in-law that this year's summer vaccation is probably going to be in Maine.

I'm a play-all-week-on-the-beach kind of guy myself. Gimme waves, sun and a place to sleep and that's all the vacation I need. As far as I can tell, Maine is not known for it's beaches.

What the heck is there to do in Maine on a week vacation?

I know they've got lots of forests and lobsters (I detest seafood!) and if Steven King books are to be believed, most monsters come from there. But otherwise, my knowledge is limited.

You haven't lived until you attend one of the lobster races.

Classic's half right.

We try to split the costs. There's two of them and only one of me, so my share is pretty small. Unfortunately, my share of the say-so on where to go is equally small. There's no way I could rent a beachfront home for a week on what I make. But I can easily swing a third of one!

The Maine thing is still just in the idea stage, and I'm hoping it's not too late to swing them in a little more southerly direction.

But I gotta admit, the responses here so far are very encouraging... For staying home altogether

Reply-I hear Arcadia National Park is quite nice if you get the chance to go there.

Don't fret - here's a beach (Old Orchard Beach) in Maine...well at least how it looked in the 1940s:

or maybe you fancy at YORK BEACH (note the wet suits - not Waikiki)
