I heard the U.S. is considering building a fence along the border to keep Mexicans out. Is that true? Why don't you just enforce the laws you already have when they enter illegally or work illegally?

Because it would be less expensive in the long run, than building more INS detention facilities and more effective than the current catch and release programs in effect now.

I still thing the most cost effective method would be to declare a free fire zone along the entire border and anyone found crossing into the US would be considered a moving target for military sniper trainees.

Sorry everyone, let me ammend that - the U.S. is also considering a wall between the U.S. and Canada as well! What next?

What next? Well, that would be national ID cards--to be carried at all times, of course, and produced upon demand.

KD

The problem is that once they are in this country, it's extremely difficult hunting them down. The cost would be enormous. They come here and then move around.

A wall on the Canadian boarder is just plain stupid, imo. But, it might not be so bad around Mexico.

Krafty - As much as people complain about illiegal immigration, there are aspects of our economy that depend on it. For instance the construction industry has long know that there are big production slow downs as illegals reurn home for the holidays and then have to sneak back afterwards. Since the border patrol is also aware of this, they push patrols up during this time and takes workers longer to return.

The labor laws are only as enforcable as employers are compliant and it's generally more economically rewarding to not comply.

The proposed fence is not going to be built anytime soon. It's just too damn expensive. As for one betweeen us and Canada... I don't see that happening anytime in the foreseeable future unless you guys decide to break all ties and stop selling us oil

Exactly right, Fenix.

It's incredible that such a suggestion hasn't been laughed out of the House of Representatives.

A wall between the US and Mexico is a great idea. It'll probably create alot of new construction jobs and employ alot of south of the border illegals to help build it.

I still think we should just invade both Mexico and Canada. That would solve all the immigration problems.

The standard of living for the Mexicans would all go up, and the Canadians... Well, they just NEED a butt-kickin'.

If a wall is ereceted along the US / Mexico border, all the Mexicans will have to be flown into Canada, since Canada is looking for more imports.

Well I just learned how KD got her name:

"Kraft Dinner, or KD Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. No difference between what's in the boxes, just what's on them. (Thanks to another visitor for this one.) Canadians eat a lot of KD. Referred to in some areas as "rubber bullets.""

Random facts

* Canada has more donut shops per capita than the United States does.
*Canadians consume more Kraft Dinner (aka Kraft Macaroni & Cheese) per capita than any other nationality on Earth.

In Mexico they call it Macarena & Cheese and they even have a little song and dance that they do before consuming it.
