ROFLOL once again, bear.

Notice the total silence from any leftie?

But they SCREAM 'where are the righties, why aren't they responding to this thread?' LOL

Yep, bet we won't see these lists posted in many, if ANY, of the liberal/left leaning sites/newspapers.

Nope....just blame the republican for what sure appears to me to be THE LEFTS acceptance of funds.

When this story first broke....some of us here pointed out that dems were SCRAMBLING to change or fill out disclosures for who gave them money. And they were doing just that.

As I said then, and I'll repeat this being investigated is GREAT for voters and taxpayers to become aware of. But ONLY if the 'double standard' lefties admit to their own behavior....which they don't, while pointing the finger at the Republicans.

Typical leftie behavior.

so sad....and to me it discredits them as a group....trying to pretend their so different or above some distortion of some moral values THEY have. What a sad joke.

Ya know, linda, maybe more libs would respond if you quit calling everyone who disagrees with you a liar. What's the point of starting a discussion if you think everyone else is lying ?????
AND, I, and many many more people are fully aware that there are Democrats involved in the Abramoff scandal...I heard it quite awhile ago on an Air America radio broadcast

AND it seems to be the Republicans who are worried about election/re-election

Bush, Others Dump Abramoff Donations By DAVID ESPO, AP Special Correspondent
Wed Jan 4, 10:37 PM ET

WASHINGTON - President Bush and numerous lawmakers hastily jettisoned campaign donations linked to lobbyist Jack Abramoff on Wednesday as Republican Party officials pondered the impact of a spreading scandal on their 2006 election prospects.

"I wish it hadn't happened because it's not going to help us keep our majority," conceded Rep. Ralph Regula (news, bio, voting record), R-Ohio.

As Abramoff pleaded guilty to a second set of felony charges in as many days, this time in Florida, officials said Bush's 2004 re-election campaign intended to give up $6,000 in donations from the lobbyist, his wife and a client.

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay of Texas — facing legal problems of his own — took similar steps, as did his leadership successor, Rep. Roy Blunt (news, bio, voting record) of Missouri, and Rep. Eric Cantor (news, bio, voting record) of Virginia, another member of the GOP leadership.

"While we firmly believe the contributions were legal at the time of receipt, the plea indicates that such contributions may not have been given in the spirit in which they were received," said Burson Taylor, a spokeswoman for Blunt.

In all, some four dozen lawmakers — three-fourths of them Republicans — have announced plans this week to return donations, mostly funds that came from Abramoff or Indian tribes he represented. Among the Democrats is Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.

Rep. Bob Ney (news, bio, voting record), R-Ohio, who faces legal scrutiny for his links to the lobbyist, joined in the rush. Others who said they would give up Abramoff-related donations included Reps. Bill Shuster and Melissa Hart, both Pennsylvania Republicans.

And a political action committee controlled by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said it planned to return $2,000 from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

The Republican rush to shed cash that once was eagerly sought underscored the potential political problem the party faces at the dawn of an election year.

"You can't have a corrupt lobbyist unless you have a corrupt member (of Congress) or a corrupt staff," former GOP House Speaker Newt Gingrich said in a lunchtime speech. "This was a team effort."

Gingrich, who battled ethics charges near the end of his tenure in Congress, also told reporters he thinks Republicans should elect a permanent replacement for DeLay. In addition to links with Abramoff, the Texan is battling campaign finance charges in his home state.

Regula, who came to Congress in 1973 and survived post-Watergate elections that crippled his party, said the implications of the Abramoff plea deals could be devastating for the GOP. "I was in the minority for 22 years and the majority for 11, and having tried it both ways, I definitely prefer the majority."

Frist issued a statement placing ethics issues on the Senate agenda for the year. He said he intends to "examine and act on any necessary changes to improve transparency and accountability for our body when it comes to lobbying.'

For their part, House Democrats have signaled they intend to make ethics an element in their drive to gain a majority in next fall's elections.

"It's more important for these Republicans to come clean with the American people about ... what (they) did for Jack Abramoff and his special interest friends in return for those campaign contributions," said Sarah Feinberg, a spokeswoman at the House Democratic campaign organization.

Federal prosecutors, armed with subpoena power and a newly cooperative witness, want answers to similar questions, according to the guilty plea that Abramoff entered on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington.

In a section of court papers headed "corruption of public officials," Abramoff acknowledged he had worked to provide "things of value to public officials in exchange for a series of official acts and influence."

Among others, the material refers to Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio, and his former chief of staff, Neil Volz, as well as to Tony Rudy, who was a top aide to DeLay at the time of the events described in the papers.

DeLay and Ney, who have both declared their innocence of wrongdoing, announced separately they would give to charity money they received as campaign donations from Abramoff or his clients.

Republicans scrambled to distance themselves from Abramoff on the day the lobbyist pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Miami to conspiracy and wire fraud stemming from his 2000 purchase of SunCruz, a gambling boat fleet.

Court papers say Ney placed a statement related to SunCruz, drafted by Abramoff's partner, Michael Scanlon, in the Congressional Record. The statement, the court papers say, was calculated to pressure the owner of SunCruz to sell on terms favorable to Abramoff.

People familiar with the investigation said federal investigators are interested in questioning Abramoff about his dealings with DeLay and Ney as well as other lawmakers and officials. Those include Rep. John Doolittle (news, bio, voting record), R-Calif., Rudy and Sen. Conrad Burns (news, bio, voting record), R-Mont., as well as former deputy Interior Secretary Stephen Griles and former top Bush administration contract officer David Safavian, according to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because Abramoff's information is likely to be submitted to a federal grand jury.

The money being returned paled in comparison to the totals raised.

The president's campaign raised more than $300 million in all for the 2004 campaign.

Abramoff raised $100,000 or more, but a spokeswoman at the Republican National Committee said that would be kept apart from the $6,000 being given to the American Heart Association.

"At this point, there is nothing to indicate that contributions from those individual donors represents anything other than enthusiastic support for the BC-04 re-election campaign," said Tracey Schmitt.

Linda

Listen to what mingotree has to say. Rather than offer opinions in the thread I started, you and Bear ripped into the dems on this board. THAT'S WHY NO ONE IS BOTHERING ANYMORE.

Bear

I said in another thread that no matter what party these people are affiliated with, they need to face the consequences if they broke the law. Abramhoff was a lobbyist. It is possible that legit money changed hands as well. Not everyone associated with him is a crook. That goes for repugs and dems.

Just where were you cheryl while crowfarm/mingotree/lindablair was constantly disrupting EVERY SINGLE thread posted her?

Where was YOUR righteous indigation when YOU were calling ME a cockroach?

LOL....on cheryl, you need to do some of your own 'self-examination' and support for mg/cf's behavior BEFORE YOU BLAME anyone else.

IF you ever paid attention....I do post to the topic. But, of course SINCE it doesn't agree with your OWN political views....then you start with helen's old mantra of 'we're running posters off'.

Have another of whatever your taking....your lack of ability to see things as they happen here is WAY out of WACK.

Ya know, linda, maybe more libs would respond if you quit calling everyone who disagrees with you a liar.

ROFLMHO once again. Anyone with just two brain cells can and have seen I only call liars, LIKE YOU, on being liars.

It's been YOU, crowfarm mingotree who SINCE you first arrived here have lied about so many things I NEVER stated.

It's been YOU who keeps 'making up lies about others'.....you're just totally delusional if YOU believe otherwise.

There are several leftie posters I haven't EVER called liars, because, IMO, they aren't. I only focus on you who actually do continually lie.

And I do NOT call people a liar BECAUSE they disagree with my opinions... again MORE delusion on YOUR PART.

I call people who make things up posters NEVER SAID, speak for OTHERS, won't admit to the clearly see truth, liars....BECAUSE they lied. Like YOU have since the first day you arrived here.

It appears to me you've made some sort of New Year's resolution to behave in a more decent manner here than you EVER have before. AND you're not following ME around 24/7 anymore....posting LIES.
That's good....and I hope it continues.

What's the point of starting a discussion if you think everyone else is lying ?????

Bush seeks to link Jack Abramoff to Democrats
Thursday, December 15, 2005

President Bush defended the Republican Party on Wednesday amid a series of corruption scandals in Washington, D.C., attempting to link disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff to Democrats.

In an interview with Fox News, Bush made his first public comments about Abramoff, a Republican insider who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the party. Although the president said he was "not all that familiar with a lot that's going on up there on Capitol Hill," he charged that Abramoff spread the money around in Washington.

"But it seems like to me that he was an equal money dispenser, that he was giving money to people in both political parties," Bush told Fox's Brit Hume.

Bush also came to the defense of Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Texas), the former House majority leader who has been indicted in Texas for allegedly violating election laws and who has been linked to Abramoff. When asked whether he thought DeLay was innocent, he responded "Yes, I do."

Yet the president had no kind words for another Republicanwho was indicted in a corruption scheme and resigned after pleading guilty to taking millions in bribes. "I feel Duke Cunningham was wrong and should be punished for what he did," he said, referring to former congressman Randy Cunningham of California. "And I think anybody who does what he did should be punished, Republican or Democrat."

Despite Bush's views, the scandals in Washington have touched Republicans so far. In addition to the indictments of DeLay, Cunningham and a former White House official who represented tribes, Michael Scanlon, a former Republican aide to DeLay, pleaded guilty last month in a scheme to bribe another Republican congressman and defraud tribes out of tens of millions of dollars.

And the majority of Abramoff's money went to Republicans, not Democrats. According to a Washington Post analysis, Republican politicians and political action committees received 63.7 percent of the $5.3 million in contributions made by Abramoff's former tribal clients and associates from 1999 through 2004.

News reports also indicate the Department of Justice is looking at the actions of a half of dozen Republicans in the House and the Senate who accepted money from Abramoff, whose former aides went to work for Abramoff or whose spouses received work as a result of their connections to Abramoff.

Two top GOP operatives -- Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform and Ralph Reed, a key Bush fundraiser -- took millions from Abramoff's tribes as well, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee's investigation has shown.

As the committee closes its probe and DOJ investigators sharpen their cases, Republicans like Bush have sought to bring Democrats into the picture. The first major target has been Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota), who accepted $67,000 in donations from Abramoff's former clients.

Dorgan, the vice chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee and the top Democrat on the Interior Appropriations subcommittee that controls Indian funding, has lashed out at the campaign. "It's not surprising that from the sleazy world of those who defrauded the Indian tribes, we have seen bogus charges against those of us who are doing the investigating," Dorgan said last month at a press conference at the United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Dorgan has since returned the money to four tribes who had hired Abramoff.

I'm glad, for once, the Republicans are letting American voters KNOW that it was democrats too.

Far too often, imo, since the press favors the left....voters only get to hear about what terrible things the republican's do....but they usually leave OUT reporting the terrible things the dems do....or they give it so little press time as to hardly be noticed. Not run on the front pages like anything the republicans do.

Donating to anyone's campaign is NOT ILLEGAL.....it's only illegal IF it's used to 'bribe' or 'help get legislation passed'.

As it appears the $80 million dollars that came from the Indian casinos was used for.

I hope when this is all sorted out...things change about how ALL lobbyists 'pay/buy' SOME of the votes from our members of Congress.

I hope some noticed that they're old kerry and clinton took this money too. Along with all the other 'finger pointering democrats' who were found to have ALSO accepted this money.

I'll place by bet on 'not'.

From Atrios...Saving the House by David Brooks.

I don't know what's more pathetic, Jack Abramoff's sleaze or Republican paralysis in the face of it. Abramoff walks out of a D.C. courthouse in his pseudo-Hasidic homburg, and all that leading Republicans can do is promise to return his money and remind everyone that some Democrats are involved in the scandal, too.

That's a great G.O.P. talking point: some Democrats are so sleazy, they get involved with the likes of us.

If Republicans want to emerge from this affair with their self-respect or electoral prospects intact, they need to get in front of it with a comprehensive reform offensive.

...

Fourth, enforce House rules. There's bound to be corruption when spending provisions can be slipped into legislation in the dead of night, outside the normal oversight procedures. There's bound to be corruption when members are forced to vote on sprawling bills nobody has a chance to inspect. Instead, all legislation should be posted online for 72 hours before the vote, so the staff and bloggers can nitpick and expose.

...
Finally, today before noon, fire Bob Ney as chairman of the House Administration Committee. For God's sake, Republicans, show a little moral revulsion.

Back in the dim recesses of my mind, I remember a party that thought of itself as a reform, or even a revolutionary movement. That party used to be known as the Republican Party. I wonder if it still exists.

By David Brooks...A Conservative!!!

Its great being a progressive today early January 2006. A progressive watching your form of crooked,CON-servative,phony religious based government crumble.

My side told you from the beginning your form of government based on lies wouldn't make it. Your bunch lied going in and are still lying on their way out.

You all went from dancing in the streets to being made fools of for trying to defend your failed form of government.

For a party that is so against Lawyers. Your party members sure are hiring a bunch of them. LOL

Abramoff Was A Republican
Was Jack Abramoff "giving money to both political parties," as President Bush suggested yesterday? No.

The lobbyist himself was a Bush Pioneer and directly wrote more than 200K in checks from '92 to '05 to Republicans. Abramoff never gave a penny to Democrats or Democratic committees.

True -- he encouraged or "directed," as the Washington Post says, his clients to give generously to politicians of parties, which they did. And several associates who worked closely with Abramoff were, indeed, "equal money dispenser[s]" as Bush said.

But not Abramoff himself.

Leave it Lindumb@ss, Bear (Rumor has it that Bear is a huge fan of gay "bear" porn, hence the name) for them to continue pointing fingers at the Democrats. It is appalling that anyone in either party accepted contributions from Jack Abram Off. Instead of holding their congressmen accountable, they continue to point fingers at everyone else but their own representatives. Both the Republicans and Democrats who participated should be held to the flame (Bear loves flames) on this one.

It's a long and winding road....

""GUAM — BUSH REMOVES FEDERAL PROSECUTOR INVESTIGATING
ABRAMOFF: In 2002, Abramoff was the target of a grand jury
investigation in Guam. On November 18, 2002, U.S. Atty. Frederick A. Black issued a grand jury subpoena issued seeking records involving a highly unusual contract between Abramoff and the Superior Court in Guam. Apparently, Superior Court officials in Guam paid Abramoff over $324,000 — funneled through a Laguna Beach attorney Howard Hills — to lobby against a bill in Congress that gave the Guam Supreme Court authority over the Superior Court. The Los Angeles Times reported this August that the day after Black issued the subpeona, “President Bush removed the supervising federal prosecutor [Black] and the inquiry ended soon after.” Black had “served as acting U.S. attorney for Guam and the Northern Mariana islands since 1991.” He was replaced by Leonardo Rapadas, the man that the Guam Republican Party recommended to Karl Rove be given the job.
