Does anyone own one of those Tempur-pedic mattresses? I was at Sam's Club and saw they had the mattress toppers made of this stuff. Is it ever weird. It's not like regular foam - it's really heavy, pliable stuff, but sooo soft. Should I save for one or are they junk?

Krafty, I have the 4" memory foam topper mattress, but I don't know if that is what you are referring to? It was developed by NASA.
It conforms to your body, and is ultra comfortable. I love mine.

That's it, Maggie! Is it as comfortable as they say? Like you'd never sleep on anything else? My mom has rheumatoid arthritis so I'll get her one first if they're good.

I have arthritis too, Krafty, and it is the most comfortable mattress I have owned. I bought a 2" thick one first and although it was comfortable, it didn't compare to the 4". I think the 4" makes quite a difference. I've had mine for 6 months and I love it. Unlike regular foam, it is very dense and gives firm stability but conforms to your pressure points.
I purchased mine from Overstock.com and got a good deal on it, for my king size bed, put the other one on the queen bed in the guest room.

We bought the Tempurpedic mattress and the box spring in July. To me its not really that soft, but contours to your body. The first week I woke up sore, like sleeping on the floor! I was told that I needed to get used to it, and I am now. Its very comfortable. We got ours at Levitz.

I think you and Near are talking about something different than what I have. Mine is a 4" memory foam mattress topper that I placed on top of my existing sealy mattress. It sounds like you both are talking about something different.

Maggie, I think so. Ours is the entire mattress, and it has the name tempurpedic on the top. Its not a topper, but the whole thing. I think I know what you have. The memory foam looks really comfortable!

Yes that's right Near. I like the foam topper over my existing mattress, which is firm. I love it. Although the feel of it without a sheet is kind of creepy. lol

Maggie, there's an actual mattress (like Near's talking about) and mattress toppers, like I saw at Sam's. The mattresses are a fortune but the toppers were only around $200.00.
So you have arthritis too? It's so painful, how do you keep positive?

I've had arthritis since my early 20's, have had both knees rebuilt also while in my 20's and I'm lucky to be walking today. I had my surgeries before total knee replacements were done. Luckily for me they rebuilt my knees, before that they could only fuse the joints and I'd have been in a wheel chair. I had early onset child's osteoarthritis. I've lived with pain most of my adult life.

Yeah the mattress was a lot, probably too much
Count me three? on the osteo-arthritis. I have it in my knee, though it started as an injury to the knee when I was 34 or so.
Maggie, I know, they have samples of the memory foam at the furniture place, it almost feels 'gooey' LOL. I know what your talking about

Do you have to buy special sheets for the bed when you use a mattress topper?

Ron, I bought the 4" topper and yes, I bought the extra deep pocket sheets to fit. Now on the 2" topper my regular sheets fit. I guess it depends on the depth? of your existing mattress though.

I have one of these matresses--bought it about 2 and a half years ago. They are wonderful!! I used to wake up stiff and sore when I used a spring mattress and finally decided enough was enough after one morning when I could barely straighten my back when I got up! The weird thing, though, is that I find using a pillow is no longer comfortable, I guess because of the way it molds to your body, and so I don't use one anymore. Shortly after I got the mattress I bought one of those adjustable beds at a garage sale for 40 dollars, , and it works well with the mattress. Now I can sit & read in bed in style!
