How do you think people would describe you and the life you've had? I attended the funeral of a man I have known well for most of my life on Friday. I sat quietly wondering just who the Minister was talking about during services as he was describing a man I had never met.

Afterwords family members and friends gathered to remember and console the immediate family (and to EAT EAT EAT!). Some of these people had not talked to or visited the man in 15 years! I listened to stories, made the correct head nods in places, and still was amazed that people had thought so differently of how he was, what he stood for, and what legacy he left behind.

Anyway, it made me wonder, would people see me as I see myself? Do you think there would be many differences in how others regard you?

Crossroads, I dont know how many people are seen as what they know themselves to be.

My sister sent me this quiz thing like whats your favorite cereal, whats your favorite inanimate object, favorite book type email thing. So I answered it, and sent it back to her. She was like..really?-I didnt know that about you! I also found some of her answers curious to the her I've always known.

So I dont think even the people you feel closest to ever really know you as much as we'd like to think we all do. All you can do is hope for the best when your time comes...

Dbl...I see what you're saying and maybe a lot of it was that they reacted differently with him than I did. The Minister was eloquent but I had the feeling it was a standard service and he had it memorized from years of use. I was waiting for the slip of (insert name here) LOL

I guess I was waiting for them to talk about the real man, real causes and beliefs he had. I mentioned this to my brother who politely (as polite as a brother can be LOL) told me that it would be the same as me being buried while they talked about how I constantly kept a foot in my mouth! I didn't know he saw me that way and it made me wonder what else people would say. Morbid for so early in the morning huh?

At funeral, at least one person will say:

"He was always so quiet and kept to himself. I never thought he'd do something like that!"

Oh Boy, I wish I could be a fly on the wall and watch my funeral! Yeeha! All the Mr.Muggins lined up around the coffin, saying things like, that Maggie was one of a kind, the only gal I really loved and the best I've ever had.

Then there'd be my family, saying she was a funny little duck, never stayed long in one place, had a mean streak a mile long, and she always landed on her feet.

Then my best girl friends would be reminiscing about all the trouble they got into with me and of course it was all my fault.

My kids will be still talking about my bad cooking and anxiously debating who gets what.. ha ha...I hope to get a front seat!

...sounds familiar, Maggie...but in my case, the preacher will need to rely on his imagination.

You know this topic made me think about the impressions we make on our fellow chat board compadres.

I'm sure you've all formed opinions on the people who you have verbal intercourse with on the boards. I see each and every one of you in my mind's eye, as my imagination has pieced you all together.

I know exactly what you look like, your homes look like, and how you dress, what you eat, and what you read! ha ha ha

What a surprise it would be to actually know you all. I wonder how many I would recognize.

It brings to mind that Internet cartoon, with the old farts in their undies chatting and pretending to be beauty queens, or the doofis in his undies and boots pretending to be an intellectual.

I wonder how many create an entire new persona on these boards, the complete opposite of their true personalities, and how many are just being themselves?
