I never want to hear from another phony CON-servative that Americans won't work at jobs so we need Mexicans.

The White House announced today it is going to look into mine safety. LOL

DrArcane,

I am sorry to say. In regards to what Bush and his CON-servative lawmakers are doing to the American Middle and Working class.

No,No,No, I can't think of one thing to give Bush and the CON-servatives credit for.

NOT ONE THING!!!!

Mingo, Bush and Cheney for about 5 years wouldn't even talk to the American people unless they was forced to somehow. He and Cheney along with their CON-servative lawmakers knew it all.

You are right now that Bush/Cheney and their CON-servative lawmakers have failed the majority of Americans. Bush/Cheney are out there trying to CON the American people AGAIN!!!!

Bush and Cheney SPEAK before rich mens clubs and our troops the only Americans they DARE TO SPEAK IN FRONT OF!!! Trying to CON Americans again by saying how great they are and what great things they have done.

WHAT A BUNCH OF CROOKED PHONY BASTARDS BUSH/CHENEY AND THEIR CON-SERVATIVE LAWMAKERS TRULY ARE.

Yes, Colon, yer INCORRECT...

There used to be a FEDERAL agancy that was mandated to ensure safe working conditions in the nation's mines.

However, the Dumbo Adminstration has obviously "outsourced" this activity to the Chinese Deptartment of EXPLOSIONS & DISASTERS!

Mine Tragedy Raises Questions About Bush Administration’s Lack of Safety Enforcement

Jan. 5—The Sago coal mine in Upshur County, W.Va., where 12 miners were killed after a Jan. 3 explosion more than two miles from the mine mouth has a history of serious safety violations. Yet, according to government records, the mine’s owners have escaped significant fines.

Since taking office in 2001, the Bush administration has cut funding and staff at the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), the federal agency in charge of enforcing the nation’s mine safety laws. The Bush administration has eliminated 170 jobs at MSHA and proposed to cut the MSHA budget in fiscal year 2006 by some $4.9 million in real dollar terms.

Mine Workers union leaders and other job safety advocates say the nation’s mine safety is compromised by the Bush administration’s emphasis on voluntary compliance with safety rules—in contrast with previous administrations, which have favored strong enforcement. Safety advocates also say the close coal industry ties of Bush administration appointees to MSHA leadership positions have further weakened the MSHA’s commitment to safety enforcement. Bush has appointed former senior executives from Peabody Energy, AMAX Inc., the American Mining Congress, Cyprus Minerals Co. and other such companies to high-ranking posts within MSHA.""

Ya see, bush's only fault ISN'T lousy public speaking ability

He's also a hate filled, greedy, uncaring, monster who doesn't care how many people die as long as big corporations make money. But, of course, if you LIKE people like that, your standards are as low as theirs and that's who you vote for.....and it makes YOU greedy, hatefilled, and uncaring....LIKE ATTRACTS!

I know it's easy to blame President Bush for everything but the truth is it’s not a failure by his administration.

If anything it's a failure of everyone involved from the users of the product, the workers, their unions, the companies, the local and state governments to the federal government.

I could only find the figures till 1999 but I'm sure (if it fits your agenda) you lefties can find later data. Deaths have been dropping for many years. It's a dangerous job, all over the world.

I lay primary blame on the mining companies. IMO, it's their responsibility to ensure that their employees have as safe a work environment as possible. In these modern times, it's a shame that that industry still cannot be trusted to police itself. I blame the Bush administration, too, for cutting funding for mine safety. However, I don't think the administration is first in line for blame laying.

Maybe I missed a news report or something, but has anyone specifically shown that the actual cause was for the WV accident(s)?

It's a mile-deep mine. That's a dangerous job despite all precautions. It seems to me no matter what safety measures you put into effect, you are still going to lose some miners once in a while. Just like police and firefighters, death is a looming possibility in a dangerous job. I'm not saying we should like it, but statistically, sometimes it's just going to happen. Sometimes, blaming someone is appropriate, and sometimes it's not.

Or WAS the company at fault, and I just haven't heard about it yet?

Unlike what many CON-servatives say Americans will do any job no matter how hard or dangerous if paid a living wage.

Its the same CON-servatives that make jobs more dangerous by cutting funding to safety programs and breaking Unions.

Certainly, the union is to blame, as well. My point being, a number of different entities are to blame here. As much as I'd like to say it's all Bush's fault, I cannot. There were probably a lot of balls dropped here.

Mingotree, peepa; how many coal mines have you been in? I am betting zero.

Do you even know any coal miners?

Do you know why there was an explosion and fire?

Do you know how a mine actually operates?

Do you know the wages that miners make?

Do you even know the training that is involved with mining?

When you can answer yes to all of these questions then you will have some valid points, until then it is nothing more than Bush bashing and not even looking at the whole picture and unintelligent opinions.

Companies try to stave off labor unions because their representation would involve costly safety considerations. Before Ronald Reagan, safety regulations were enacted and unions were able to fight for the workers safety needs and quality of life. But Reagan declared open war on labor unions and that war continues under the Bush administration.

Now, OSHA or MSHA violation penalties are so low that it's more profitable for mine owners to pay fines than improve safety.

Corporate greed killed those miners and nothing will change while the Bush administration rules.

Imo, the mining company, knowing the dangers of mining first hand, should take all measures to ensure the safety of their employees.

Next, the unions, who should also be aware of the dangers, should make certain the mining companies are taking the necessary steps with the miners well-being in mind.

The government should not HAVE to force a company to do the right thing. However, that is not the case, it seems.

There is certainly enough "blame" to go around.

BTW, I do know a few people that have worked in coal mines. It's very dangerous and very dirty work. Miners know this before they take the job. Just as firemen and policemen know their jobs are dangerous prior to filling out the application.

Coal Mine Deaths Bring Calls for Safety Overhaul
By VICKI SMITH, AP

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jan. 22) - In death, 14 West Virginia coal miners have achieved something that just a month ago seemed an unlikely goal: Labor, industry and lawmakers are united in demanding that a dangerous subterranean occupation be made safer.

Bush Administration Launches Review of Mine Safety

One day after the bodies of two missing miners were found in Aracoma Coal's Alma No. 1 mine at Melville, Gov. Joe Manchin was crafting legislation Sunday that he wanted lawmakers to put on a fast track.

"Our intention is to have three components of a new law I know will add safety and comfort for every miner and every miner's families in West Virginia," Manchin told The Associated Press. He also said he would press the Legislature to approve the measure by Monday night.

West Virginia's congressional delegation and the National Mining Association and the United Mine Workers of America said Sunday that they, too, want a major overhaul of state and federal mine safety laws.

The Bush administration is reviewing safety equipment in mines after scrapping similar initiatives started by the Clinton administration. Miners' advocates said pulling those initiatives stopped potentially important safety rules from becoming reality; the Republicans cited changing priorities and resource concerns.

WHAT ARE BUSH'S AND CON-SERVATIVES LIKE RON "CHANGING PRIORITIES" AND "RESOURCE CONCERNS"? THEY ARE TO SCREW OR EVEN KILL SOME WORKING CLASS TO MAKE THE RICH RICHER. I BELIEVE THAT IS TRUE.

HEY RON, I AM FROM PITTSBURGH AND YES I PERSONALLY KNOW COAL MINERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

YES RON, I HAVE BEEN IN BOTH COAL AND SALT MINES.

YES RON, I KNOW WHAT COAL MINERS GET PAID. PLUS UNLIKE YOU I DON'T BEGRUDGE WHAT THEY GET PAID FOR THEIR HARD,DIRTY AND DANGEROUS JOB.

YES RON, ITS STILL TRUE. I RETURN THE DISRESPECT YOUR KIND SHOWS THE WORKING CLASS AMERICAN.

Peebrain,
Now you’re a blue collar American? I though you were big business with your own BIG business. E-bay business.

How many workers do you have on your pay roll? Oh yes, that aren't family members? Do you pay their medical insurance, workmen’s comp., are you withholding the correct taxes for these employees and your self? What kind of benefit package to you offer?

You’re in contradiction to reality. Truly, one of a kind. An enigma or is that enema. I get lost on the “E” words.

I just happen to believe people like Ron are sick with greed and people like Colin and Bear are just stupid.

A NEOCON poster I call LIAR_K hasn't been around lately. She got caught up and exposed in all her lies. Anytime a LIAR gets shut up I call that progress.

I believe other liars like Bush and Cheney along with the crooks liars that call themselves conservative lawmakers will be shut-up soon.

About me using caps I use them often. If for some reason my caps offend or bother you you have a choice just don't read my posts or continue to read them and make comment.
