Dont know if you would really call it a near death experience. As a kid I was swimming under a floating platform on the lake at Huntsville State park. About half way under I hit my head on the bottom of the platform. Had there not been a opening with an air space under the raft I think I would have drown.

Maggie, when I hit my head I knew what had happened. I didn't know what to do to get out of the situation and yes I was very supprized when I surfaced in the air space between the floats.
To make the situation even stranger is that it was on a church outing that this happened.
Never told anyone at the time what happened and ever since then I will not swim underwater.
