Charges dropped against Christian

Afghan court dismisses case against man who left Islam
Posted: March 25, 2006
9:18 a.m. Eastern

The Afghan man facing a possible death sentence for converting from Islam to Christianity scored a victory today when a court in Kabul dismissed the case against him.

Under mounting pressure from countries including the United States to free Abdul Rahman, officials cited a lack of evidence in their decision to drop the case.

One official told the Associated Press the case had been returned to the prosecutors for more investigation, but Rahman would be released in the meantime.

"The court dismissed today the case against Abdul Rahman for a lack of information and a lot of legal gaps in the case," the official told AP on condition of anonymity.

"The decision about his release will be taken possibly tomorrow," the official added. "They don't have to keep him in jail while the attorney general is looking into the case."

Abdul Wakil Omeri, a spokesman for the Supreme Court, confirmed the case was dismissed because of "problems with the prosecutors' evidence."

"It is the job of the attorney general's office to decide if he is mentally fit to stand trial," he told AP.

Questions are reportedly being raised on whether or not Rahman would stay in Afghanistan, or face exile in another country.

The constitution in Afghanistan is based on Sharia law, which states any Muslim who rejects his or her religion should be sentenced to death.

If he had been sentenced, Rahman would have been the first person punished for leaving Islam since the Taliban was ousted by American-led forces in late 2001.

An Afghan Christian in the U.S. who has regular contact with Christians in his home country through his ministry, posted a video clip of Rahman on his website.

Rahman says in the clip, according to Andaryas: "The punishment by hanging? I will accept it gladly, but I am not an infidel. I am not a traitor. I am a follower of Jesus."

DUMBO'S style of democracy a split up country under "ISLAMIC LAWS".

Now the Taliban seems to be reforming and STILL AFTER 5 YEARS UNDER DUMBO'S planning NO BIN LADEN.

DUMBO also brought us a country that really doesn't have much of a government of any kind outside KABUL. No change there.

Afghanistan still is the biggest producer of poppies for Heroin in the World. No change there.

DUMBO talks big day after day about Afghanistan and Iraq. Now if Iraq doesn't go into full blown Civil war they will also wind up with DUMBO'S style of democracy. A country under "ISLAMIC LAWS".

NOTHING HAS CHANGED BEAR AND YOU KNOW IT. MAYBE NEXT TIME A BEHEADING WON'T BE BROUGHT TO THE WORLDS ATTENTION BY THE LIBERAL PRESS. THE PRESS SAVED THIS GUYS BUTT FOR NOW. I UNDERSTAND A COUPLE CLERICS ARE STILL CALLING FOR THIS GUYS LIFE.

MAYBE DUMBO CAN CLAIM THIS WAS HIS DOING LOL. WHAT A F-ING PHONY DUMBO IS.

AND DUMBO BUSH BRAGS ABOUT HIS STYLE OF DEMOCRACY IN AFGHANISTAN

Italy Welcomes Man Who Fled Afghanistan

The Associated Press
By MARIA SANMINIATELLI

ROME (AP) — Italy granted asylum Wednesday to an Afghan who faced the death penalty for converting from Islam to Christianity, and Premier Silvio Berlusconi said the man was in the care of the Interior Ministry after arriving in Italy earlier in the day.

Conversion is a crime under Afghanistan's Islamic law. Rahman, 41, was arrested last month after police discovered him with a Bible. He was brought to trial last week for converting 16 years ago while working as a medical aid worker for an international Christian group helping Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

Muslim clerics in Afghanistan condemned Rahman's release, saying it was a "betrayal of Islam," and threatened to incite violent protests.

Some 500 Muslim leaders, students and others gathered Wednesday in a mosque in southern Qalat town and criticized the government for releasing Rahman, said Abdulrahman Jan, the top cleric in Zabul province.

He said the government should either force Rahman to convert back to Islam or kill him.

Qur’an 8:12 “I will terrorize the unbelievers. Therefore smite them on their necks and every joint and incapacitate them. Strike off their heads and cut off each of their fingers and toes.”

Qur’an 8:59 “The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them.”

'Nuff said. If they treat simple non-believers this way, what would you expect of someone who actively chooses to turn their back on Islam, becoming an apostate or traitor?

Ah yes.....those peaceful clerics calling for this Christian's death[/b]....because he changed his religion.

How can the left continue not to see/believe the threat these muslim clerics AND their followers are to our Nation?

Just unbelievable to me that they see THEM as 'peaceful' and Christians as the evil ones.

They are so confused it's unbelievable. And they expect to get their representatives elected who ALSO believe muslim/islam IS a peaceful religion? I sure hope not.

-----------

Thanks for the quotes from their Koran, Arcane. Just goes to show that they're still literally, actively and CURRENTLY STILL practicing their beliefs from centuries ago.

Doc - What Qur'an are you reading from?

In mine, Part 8 verse 12 states:
(Allah) said: "What Prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not protrate yourself, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (adam), you created me from fire and You created him from Clay".

Part 8 verse 59 states:
Indeed, we sent Nuh (Noah) to his people and he said: "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but him. Certainly I fear for you the torment of the great day!"

" Doc - What Qur'an are you reading from? "

The actual words in my previous post above was a cut and paste from a web-search, I dunno exactly where now. BUT I thought it looked kinda extreme at the time, so I looked it up in my real copy of the Qur'an before posting it the first time (It was right next to my monitor, so it was convenient). Although the wording is a little more modern, my book is pretty close.

Since you questioned me, I checked in my other Qur'an translation and still came up with something similar. Where you got the stuff you posted, I have no idea. Try checking again, I suspect your translation may have done something funky with the Surahs. You call them "parts," so it may not be the same thing. There are 114 Surahs in most translations, you may want to check yours.

Sources:
Qur'an Translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali, which is a very common translation. This is the one we just used in my Islam class (Taught by a real Arab Muslim, not somebody like Rush Limbaugh).
