While listening to a really bad radio channel, the song "Butterfly of Love" came on. You know the one... "don't be concerned, it will not harm you, it's only me pursuing something I'm not sure of"... when it hit me how traumatized I became by the music my parents listened to. I remember having a great time one day listening to Led Zeppelin in our back yard when my mom ran over and changed the radio channel, claiming the noise was making her sick and deaf. This became my parents mantra when the radio was turned to a good channel I liked. My channels always provoked the same reaction, especially RUNNING to the radio to get the channel changed in time. They acted like they'd both been saved from drowning once the channel was back to Neil Sedaka or Glen Campbell. Sure, I had a transistor radio that ate batteries my parents wouldn't pay for, so what good was that? This kind of music was on ALL the time unless they were out.

Have any of you ever experienced such horrifying flashbacks?

Wow, Kraft actually answered one of her own questions about what others think on a subject, for a change, rather than asking it of others and not giving her response at all. I am impressed Kraft, you're really starting to get the hang of this place. Keep it up.

The one thing I can say about my parents is they had great taste in music. When i got into my teens I was constantly "borrowing" their vinyl. The only "scarring" experience I ever had was being sent to the principle office after taking a tape of Dr Hook's Freakers Ball to school in 3rd or 4th grade. I had no idea what most of it meant, I just lked the song.. still do. It's on my ipod

Freakers Ball

Well there's gonna be a freakers ball
Tonight at the freakers hall
And you know, you're invited one and all

Come on babies grease your lips
Grab your hats and swing your hips
Don't forget to bring your whips
We're going to the freakers ball

Blow your whistle and bang your gong
Roll up something to take along
It feels so good it must be wrong
We're freakin at the freakers ball

Where all the fags and the dykes they're boogyin' together
The leather freaks are dressed in all kinds of leather
The greatest of the sadists and the masochists too
Screaming "Please hit me, and I'll hit you"

The FBI are dancing with the junkies
All the straights, are swinging with the funkies
Across the floor and up the wall
We're freakin at the freakers ball
Yall, we're freakin at the freakers ball

Everybody's kissing each other
Brother with sister, son with mother
Smear my body up with butter
Take me to the freakers ball

Pass that roach please and pour the wine
I'll kiss yours if you'll kiss mine
I'm gonna boogie till i go blind
We're freakin at the freakers ball

White ones, black ones, yellow ones, red ones
Necrophiliacs looking for dead ones
The greatest of the sadist and the masochists too
Screaming "Please hit me, and I'll hit you"

Everybody's fallin' in batches
Pyromaniacs striking matches
I'm gonna itch me where it scratches
Freaking at the freakers ball

No I was never into drugs.

Seriously, I had a radio (AM only, no FM at the time) in my room & they never cared what I listened to.

LOL Pie, that hasnt gotten past you so far, has it? But I think Kraft just tries to make up sh* even when she answers something. Such is the life of an {ahem cough cough} so called designer... The elbow mararonni looken for grease game...

As for me, my parents never gave me a hard time about any music..just mostly told me to lower it down if anything.

I know my newphew told me his mother (who is my age) tells him to "shut off that jive", when he is listening to his rap music. He rolled his eyes and said, yah, she calls it jive... But I know I always have to ask him...who is that -- nelly/kelly/fifty cents? who??? And the kids argue big time over what radio station or CD goes on in the car. Its like the first thing they start fiddlin with

Bear, they are so collectable now the 8 tracks. I saw some and should have bought them for selling...but I know its certain ones bring more money than others. I think I saw a clash one going for over 100.00 one time.

Wanted to add too, I know some rap but it the old stuff like Run DMC, beasty boys, Dr Dre...but except for that linkin park kid and a few others, I have very little desire to even try to get into all the new stuff they are putting out everyday. I think kids should be able to have their own thing without old farts always interferring with it the way Gore's wife tried to do in the eighties. If the parents want to restrict them, than that is up to them to monitor what their kids are doing.

LoL everyone!

Double, I'm not a designer by trade - it's a hobby of mine. Remember? We talked about it in the HOBBY thread. Besides, not long ago we all voted about rap songs. 99% agreed they led to murder and disobedience, so don't try promoting that stuff here.

I listen to a lot of 50/60 doowop and my son's actually kinda like it. They are always borrowing my CDs til I told them hands off and made them copies. All because they don't return stuff.

My house way back yonder was country music, my Dad listened to it and every friday and saturday night the TV was on HEE HAW, Grand Ole Opry, Porter Wagoner all that stuff. It grated on my single nerve. Now days I like country.. Sundays was western night and if you didn't want to watch what pop wanted then tuff nooky. Nowdays there is a TV in every room and no one watches together anymore at my house. Radio is not on much around here as we don't like the stations we can get here.

How bout not equating death with stopping

"He blesses the boys as they stand in line
The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine
He’s there to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he’s a good holy man

Sky pilot Sky pilot
How high can you fly
You’ll never, never, never reach the sky

He smiles at the young soldiers
Tells them its all right
He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight
Soon there’ll be blood and many will die
Mothers and fathers back home they will cry

Sky pilot Sky pilot
How high can you fly
You’ll never, never, never reach the sky

He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile
The order is given
They move down the line
But he’s still behind and he’ll meditate
But it won’t stop the bleeding or ease the hate

As the young men move out into the battle zone
He feels good, with God you’re never alone
He feels tired and he lays on his bed
Hopes the men will find courage in the words that he said

Sky pilot Sky pilot
How high can you fly
You’ll never, never, never reach the sky

You’re soldiers of God you must understand
The fate of your country is in your young hands
May God give you strength
Do your job real well
If it all was worth it
Only time it will tell

In the morning they return
With tears in their eyes
The stench of death drifts up to the skies
A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot
Remembers the words
"Thou shalt not kill"
Sky pilot Sky pilot
How high can you fly
You never, never, never reach the sky"

Too bad you're void of memory cells, Doublemint. Here's another scoop - Linda hasn't been here for weeks and we're all getting along wonderfully. The lack of hatred and negativity is very obvious and sooo appreciated. (Don't worry, we all sympathize with how lonely it's been for you since she's been mia.)

P.S. I have to say your choice of songs makes me laugh. They're all sensitive and deep, yet you're the exact opposite. What's going on?

krap dinner, in case you havent noticed *I* have not been around this board for weeks either, so your thinking *Im whatever* your distorted vision is, again, so off base, that your comments are as usual, a big joke.

I'm glad u have the nicey nicey socialist communist board you desire, with no differing opinions or controversy. Youre such a control freak and this supposedly living in Canada even? pffst.

Im sure YOU ARE still running behind Linda to whatever other boards she posts to. Unlike you, I dont do that - go running behind people. But some are leaders and go their way, wherever they want to; others like you dweebs just follow helplessly after looking to fulfill their hungry belly somehow.

LoL Double! Yes, I did notice. That's why I told you how much fun it's been since Linda's been absent - in case you didn't realize it. As for a socialist board, that's hilarious!! If enjoying a break from negativity and hatred is being socialist, then yes, this is a socialist board now.
