Kennedy pleads guilty to DUI in plea deal
12:24 PM CDT on Tuesday, June 13, 2006
Associated Press
WASHINGTON— Rep. Patrick Kennedy has reached a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of prescription drugs in connection with his middle-of-the-night car crash last month near the U.S. Capitol.
Two additional charges of reckless driving and failure to exhibit a driving permit will be dismissed under the plea agreement.
Kennedy was booked on the three charges at Capitol Police headquarters at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to police spokeswoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider.
The congressman’s chief of staff, Sean Richardson, said the Rhode Island Democrat would appear in District of Columbia Superior Court “to accept the consequences of his actions.”
“He is looking forward to closing this chapter,” Richardson said. “He’s feeling great and is excited to be back to work.”
Kennedy returned to Congress last week after nearly a month of treatment for addiction to prescription pain drugs at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
The six-term congressman, who has struggled with addiction since high school, had entered the clinic one day after the May 4 crash on Capitol Hill that he said he could not remember.
The accident has raised questions about whether Kennedy, 38, was drinking and had received special treatment by police, who did not conduct field sobriety tests. Kennedy has denied consuming alcohol before the crash.
In the hours before the crash, Kennedy said he returned home from work and took a sleeping pill, Ambien, and Phenergan, a prescription anti-nausea drug that can cause drowsiness. He said he did not consume alcohol.
Kennedy crashed his green 1997 Ford Mustang convertible into a security barrier near the Capitol about 3 a.m. The officer listed alcohol influence as a contributing factor in the crash and noted
that Kennedy was “ability impaired,” with red, watery eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance, according to the accident report.
Police did not conduct field sobriety tests on Kennedy. A police union official has said the officers involved in the accident were instructed by a superior to take the congressman home. Kennedy has denied asking for special treatment.
Police had observed Kennedy’s car, with no headlights on, swerve into the wrong lane and strike a curb. Kennedy nearly hit a police car, the report said, and did not respond to the officer’s efforts to pull him over. He continued at a slower speed before hitting a security barrier head-on, the report said.
Kennedy told the police officer he was “headed to the Capitol to make a vote,” the report said. He was cited for failure to keep in the proper lane, traveling at “unreasonable speed” and failing to “give full time and attention” to operating his vehicle.
Kennedy’s office has said that it has not received those initial citations.

Isn't ironic that you don't get threads from BearPorn like, "Dukester is a Criminal!" or "Brownie is a Brown Noser", etc.
Awfully biased to never post a thread about the Republicans who have been found guilty, going as far as defending their actions in some shallow, bigoted Archie Bunker kind of way. When will you learn BearPorn that people see right through it?
You might actually get some respect if you actually held your crime party as responsible as you do towards everyone on the left. It gets old quickly, and to be honest, people see right through your biased, tough guy BS.

Boy oh boy krusty, i'd sure like to see who could see through who if after you ever had the guts to talk to Bear like that in person, at one of the gun shows that he sells at.

Since you would never have the guts to do that krusty, Bear will have to figuratively shoot you full of holes but i'm sure he won't have any problems doing that.

Pi, I wouldn't waste the effort on dip-wad II. I figure he has to be related to sheepass and is jealous of Monica's knee time will Slick Willie.

Because of people like Bear and piinthesky I don't even try to debate fools and neocons. Put fools like them in a big bag, shake them up, and they all come out the same, still fools.
I just point out how their leaders have FAILED and are WAGING A WAR ON THE MIDDLE CLASS.
BTW about Kennedy, my Grandfather told me the Lord created Religion and Whiskey so the Irish wouldn't rule the World.

It's simple. Rustydumbo never posts any facts except bias made up crap. Bet he didn't even check the facts in this case. Bet you didn't know that local congressman and republican Jim Ramstad is Kennedy's AA sponsor? Sad thing is you demomorons have to politicalize everything you do. Cannot accept the fact that demomorons avoid the truth and divert all attention away from where is belongs.
For Kennedy to come out and state he screwed up and here is what I am doing to fix it is respectible and a switch from the normal demomoron ways.
Then there is the bigdopa. Always posting the same BS on every post. The only way anyone can respond to that crap is:
dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa, dohhhh paaaaa.

piinthesky, I don't know about Texass but gun shows in Pa have been slow. The dealers around here are saying the working and middle class gun buyers don't have the money to spend since DUMBO BUSH.
These are the same guys that voted for DUMBO and now are wondering why.

Guns sold at auction here in Northern PA are bringing ungodly prices. We are debating selling about 6 that we'll never use, then purchasing 2 that Mark would like to have.

twig125silver,
twig said,"I live about 45 minutes west of Corning, NY. About 5 miles from the NY line."
I know several dealers in your general area. I plan on an August buying trip up your way. I always found the prices there somewhat lower than in some urban areas.
I am looking forward to seeing again Towanda,Ulster,Sayre Pa. then up to Ithaca,Geneva, then over to the Elmira and Corning NY then back down to Baltimore MD to sell my wares. I am betting you know a few of the people I do business with your way.
Country living is nice but not for me any longer. If I can't go to a Pro football/basketball game or have a Pizza delivered to my door I don't want to live there. GO STEELERS!!!

Classic, wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle is just the difference between an open or closed casket ceremony and that's the honest truth.

pi- I agree about the "open and closed casket". This is just an example of someone having the freedom to decide to behave like an idiot.
peepa- I don't think they can say no motorcycle, but they could stipulate he has to wear a helmet. The Steelers have an investment to protect.
In this state I HAVE to wear a seatbelt when I have 1 ton of steel protecting me....but I don't have to wear a helmet or protective clothing when on a bike..go figure. I'd hate to hit a bear on one! You'd be laying on the pavement, unable to move and have a pissed off bear beside you.

peepa- Do you stop at the co-ops in Mansfield and Wellsboro? I've gotten some pretty good deals there, but primarily due to I knew more about an item than the dealer did. Madison-Bouckville, NY has a big antique show sometime this summer. I've never been, but my MIL used to set up there years ago.
classic- Did you hit the wineries in Seneca Lake? I'll bet you went to Hazlitt's and bought some "Red Cat". (Red Cat, Red Cat, It's an aphrodisiac. Red Cat, Red Cat, It will get you in the sack.....) It's a little too sweet for my taste, but it makes a great wine cooler.

twig-we went to one-it was on the left side of the lake.I dont remember the name of it,but at that time they were building a motel next to it.It was on a hill and you could look down and see the lake.

I go to the ones on the east (right) side of the lake. I think I know which one you're talking about.... There's one that to stay, well, you need to be monied..and their wine sucks. A little north of Watkins Glen.
