Just curious about what the cost of cable and internet service costs in your area?

I pay 106.00 a month for my cable and cable internet here in Mississippi.

I get my cable tv for free. It's included with my rent as a co-op situation but it essentially adds about ten dollars to my rent. For internet service I pay $26.00 a month.

I pay $49.95 for Roadrunner alone; I don't buy the regular cable TV.

40 bucks for wireless internet connection, which is our only option for broadband, other than ridiculously expensive and slow sattelite internet and 50 something for sattelite TV, also our only option as there aint no local channels out here in the bushes, no cable either. suits me just fine.

Mags, we pay $25.00 for dial up internet and about $80.00 a month for the satellite. Pretty expensive each month, isn't it?

dial up is an archaic method of connecting to the internet using, I am not making this up, a TELEPHONE!! There are reported to be some luddite users hiding out in the hinterlands who still use this slow, unreliable method. There is no proof that they are all members of the Flat Earth Society, however they ARE all admitted CHEAPSKATES.

That's not true prof. We just got DSL and it was limited to 40 users for our area. (We got lucky!) I had no choice other than dial-up. Hell, we still don't have the local antenna hooked up on the tower for our cell-phones. Adelphia and Verizon are fighting over who owns the airwaves in our area (or something like that). It's been there, ready for four years.

But that's what we get for living in paradise...lol!

Don't listen to Prof, Twig. He's just showing off. Some of us country dwellers don't have a choice - something those big shot, high speed users forget.

I pay about $90 a month for cable and internet. - also includes HBO and Showtime. I'd cancel Showtime but there is a new season of Weeds coming up so I guess I'll keep it for a couple more months.

Maggie, yup I'm forced to use dial up. Out here in the sticks my only other option is ISDN @ 64 or 128Kbs.

But since I installed a new HD on this computer & replaced the phone line to the junction box, I'm able to connect most of the time at about 40 to 48Kbs

It could be worse.

what the f*ck is dial-up???

Wrong type of dial up, Classic, its not the sex hotline you expected.

Sheesh, I thought I lived out in no man's land.

Well to tell you how far in the forest I am, all four WalMarts in this area (North, South, East or West) are all 22 to 30 miles away.

Bread crumbs? No. But if someone is coming this way for the first time, I have to meet them & lead the way in.

Ironically after we purchased the place, we found out that my Grandmother & Great grand Parents on my mothers side are buried in the cemetery around the corner from here.

I drive 22 miles to work, unless I take the back roads here on the ranch, then it's only 12 miles but takes twice as long, it's an 80 mile round trip to town, two dozen of which are dirt... we go once a month at best. The tower my wireless transducer looks at is on a moutain top about 15 miles away as the crow flies. I count myself darn lucky to have that option for only 40 bucks. I get better speeds than friends who live in town and are on cable or dsl. My kid complains that the upload latency is bad when he's playing games online. Too bad, go outside and clean the paddocks or shoot at cans instead of make believe gargoyles.

Maggie, She died in the early 30's when my mother was very little. Mom had forgotten where her mother was buried, it was only when I was driving my mother & her older sister out to show them the property, that my Aunt mentioned the fact that their mother & her parents were buried there.

bebe- I live in northern PA. I have to drive at least 45 minutes to get to the nearest Walmart or Hospital or Movie Theater. I couldn't wait to leave this area! After being gone almost 20 years,I came back so my kids could "live to graduate". Plus my parents are getting older...

Bear- You were meant to be there.
