Mrs Irked wanted me to share this link with everyone to the pictures she took today of the removal of a huge tree beside our house. (((you don't have to login to view them.)))) It was diseased and had to go before it demolished our home. I was at work and missed all the action but she took pictures of the process. The images don't even show what a huge mess it was and really how big.
She didn't want to put her image in the album but wanted them for reference she said to her big butt. She said that not me.
She took the pictures with the timer and said she forgot she had not makeup on so don't be too frightened by her mug shot. LOL There are 63 images that she took including one of the cement when she jumped while taking pic of the largest limb as it came down it cracked real loud and wound up taking the cement instead of it coming down. The work guys and his grandson did a great job and had it down by 2:00PM today . They started at 8 AM and had several breaks and 4 trips to the landfill.
Diameter at cut line is 47.5" and would have been 60 if they could have gotten even with ground.

Wow thanks for the compliment on Mrs Irked. She thought for sure she would scare you all off.
Washington- We met right after my discharge from the Army in 1971. I had a cast on my right arm and left lower leg. I always figured she felt sorry for me and took me under her wing.
Pinn I was at work and missed all the action. The guys in the pictures are the tree removers, father and son and grandson. They did a great job and didn't even damage anything except for one schrub that lost some limbs but no biggy as better that than the house.
Yes that tree had deteriorated vastly over last year and half. We were holding our breaths everytime a big wind or storm came until we got enough money to get it cut down. We got a great bargin for 600 smakeroos. Other trimers wanted $1200 to $1500.
Now all we have to do is try to rot out the ground level stump. Was told desil gas painted on would help. The chemical to get rid of the stump is about $100.00 a gallon so we will try the gas first. drill some holes etc.

irked, why don't you just get a stump grinder to come in and take it out? Costs me 50.00 per stump.
You did get a bargain, we paid a ton of money to get the fallen trees cut up and removed.

What a huge tree! It's a shame, it looked rotted clean through. Lots of firewood though. That poor kid looks beat in the one photo!
Maybe you can rent a stump grinder to save some bucks. I believe that's the best way to go.

Thousands of pinebark beetle-destroyed trees in our town have been removed by the govt. Thank goodness it's over. I used to listen for the saws, then silence, then a cracking that sounded louder and louder, and then a HUGE thundering boom as these giants hit the dirt. We had two removed on our property that were even larger than yours! With one, my husband started counting rings and quit at 450. It's awful to lose trees to critters like beetles.

What a neat old tree! It's a shame that it was damaged by insects...you will miss the shade when you and mrs irked use the lawn swing....

What a shame, Irked...... it looked so beautiful there. I had to have a huge willow removed on my last property because it was always a worry each time a wind storm went through. We never realized how rotten it was until it came down and the whole center was gone. The Flickers had made big holes right into it too.

Thanks for the suggestions on stump grinders. Don't know if they have any in these parts but will check it out.
It was sad to have it removed for sure. Sky my Huskey sure was ready to come in this morning since the sun was beating down on the patio area. Sure is going to make a difference on that side of the house. In front other side we have a huge Pecan tree that has great shade and also one directly behind the house and another large one at back of property. Our swing is under front pecan tree right now, have to put the cushion back on it so I can get comfy. We plan to plant another tree but we don't know if we will still be alive to see the type shade the other one produced even in its diseased state. Before it got sick and bug ridden it was a fabulous tree to behold..
Before that tree got diseased and plum tuckered out LOL it was even taller and even covered the house next door out over their drive and roof etc, that was abut 5 years ago. and as far back as my wife can remember. We now own the house that belonged to her parents since 1960 and the tree was huge then. No telling how old it really is it is hard to count the rings, and can't count them in center due to about 12" hole full of dirt etc.
