Hi everybody, just checking in to see how everyone is doing this Summer. It's been slow over here on the Good old Round Table lately, and I'm guessing like myself you are all busy and enjoying the sunshine.

After losing my two babies last Summer (yorkies), and then dealing with Katrina, I found myself sinking fast into depression. I didn't realize what it was until family intervened and then I sought help. Some say it is like post traumatic stress disorder, all I know is every ounce of my energy felt drained.

I'm doing better now, with the help of exercise, good diet. As a matter of fact I just bought an elliptical trainer and if you ever want a machine that will give you a good work out without stress and strain on your knees this is the way to go. Only drawback is it is huge and takes up a lot of space.

We have taken a couple of short vacations, visiting friends and family but haven't gone anywhere exotic.. .LOL

Cheryl are you still hiking? Kiara building any more houses? Kraft, are you keeping those two men in line? Ms.Fenix, still flitting all over the globe and taking care of everyone? Twig, miss reading your posts!
Hi Helen, Mingo and NTS what's cooking?
Profe and Classic and Bear where ever you are, hope all is well. Rusty, Dave, Ron, and everyone else have a great Summer!

Hi, Maggie! Yes, I'm still hiking. Just got back from three days of it in Loudonville, Ohio (Mohican). I'm spending more time with my mother as her Alzheimer's is progressing much faster than we anticipated. She now thinks that someone has kidnapped Tiffany, my granddaughter.

Glad to hear that things are looking up for you, girl! You've sure had a rough time of it.

Sorry to hear about your Mom, Cheryl.
That has to be the toughest situation for anyone to go through with a parent. Both of my parents died when I was quite young, so I never saw them age or get old.
Last time I heard, you were trying to quit smoking or you had quit, hope that you are still hanging tough on that. Good hearing from you!

Pi,good luck with your gang over at Colins place.

Edited for Sp error.

Hi Profe...hope you are enjoying your summer.
Mississippi kids started back to school this week, it seems like summer vacation gets shorter every year. I remember we always went back after Labor Day.
PS.. where have you hidden our Fenix?

Maggie

Smoke free since March 30, 2006!!! Not that it's always easy. My son quit two weeks ago so the entire family is now smoke-free.

Good for you, Cheryl!!

Hi Dave, thanks I'm doing better, at least until the next hurricane comes our way. Then I'll be a basket case.

Yup maggie, you're right the summers are getting shorter. My school starts again thursday. I've been breaking in a few new teachers and getting stuff set up for about a week now. I'm at that point in my careeer where each year is my last. Good place to be, I can walk away anytime I get tired of the increasing hoops we have to jump through.

I could start a rumor and say that fenix has hidden out here at the ranch all summer and learned to castrate lambs and dehorn cattle, but I guess I won't.

Hi Maggie!

Sorry that you've had such a rough time and I admire anyone that can get through that kind of stress. Not sure if I could do it as we recently flew over to Vancouver Island to look at some properties and though I love it there I keep thinking about earthquakes or a tsunami whenever I consider living there. B.C. always has a worry with forest fires so it seems like no place is ‘safe’.

Not renovating any houses this summer but we are considering some property in WA State and will be going back to have a look at some more of them.

Congrats on being smoke-free, Cheryl and good luck with this next school year, Prof.

Stay strong, Maggie and I hope everyone else is enjoying their summer or what’s left of it.

Kiara-N.Y. is pretty safe.We have no mudslides,no tsumanis,no hurricanes,no raging forest fires,no earthquakes,no raging floods like El Paso.....however we do have high taxes.

Hi Kiara! Hi Classy! I bet you have been using the heck out of your pool this year, Classy, with the heat wave up north.

Kiara, the cost of homes in Vancouver are astronomical.. I have friends living there, and they've had some problem with mud slides. Absolutely gorgeous place to live though... if you have very deep pockets. WA State is beautiful too. And here I am stuck in the armpits of the south..

Hi Maggie!

Funny, I called Anniston, AL (Ft. McClellan) the armpit of the nation...that's where I went through Basic Training.

Has anyone heard anything from Bear? Maybe he got a puppy!

Bebe -- Glad you are doing better with the depression, they say exercise and sunshine is good for that. Hope it keeps getting better for you.

cblev good for you being smoke free just wish I could snuff it out too along with the rest of the family I mean everyone stop smoking wrong choice of words I think. LOL

It is strange that Bear has not checked in. Didn't he have leg problems? Hope he is well.

Profe what do you teach? and age group? I think it is shame they start school so early. Too hot yet really but they have air conditioners unlike when I went to school when it was a luxary to even have a fan running. Makes me hot just thinking about that time but strange thing is I didn't notice the heat back then unlike now. LOL

Hello everyone else hope the rest of the summer for everyone is a good one. I don't take vacation until later in year so that it is cooler, probably go see mrs irked's mom who just broke her arm few days ago. The wife told her mother she was going to send her to walking school. Her mom has fallen 3 times this summer and had broken same wrist different bones back in June. We worry she will fall and break something worse like a hip. Wife kids with her but is really worried about all the falls she has had since her back surgery last year.

hi irked, I teach 7th-8th grade math/sci/soc.studies half day and run the school the other half. We're a small rural school of 200 kids in grades K-8. Don't really need a principal per se.

Mags - I'm having fun right now for the first time since I came back to Denver. Somehow hooked up with this incredible artist who I am working with to help expand his business. Since I love building businesses but hate running them this is heaven for me.

Glad to hear that you are feeling froggy again. I didn't really realize what a funk I had been in until I started this new project. All of a sudden my brain is running at full speed again and life is good.

Prof - you are a bad bad man - but you know how I like that

Irked - have the MIL tested for foot drop - my mother has the same problem. The past surgery was supposed to help relive part of it but has done no good and she just can't pick her foot up all the way so she trips and falls a lot. She may just need a brace that keeps her foot at the right angle when she is walking

So good to hear you so UPBEAT, Fenix! That's the tricky part of being down, you don't realize it until something perks your interest, or in my case, depression took hold and I needed help to climb out of the dark hole.

It's funny that you mentioned your Artist friend, because that's what I've been doing. After so many years, I've lost count, I've pulled out the old easel and brushes again and have started to paint. I'd forgotten just how relaxing it is, not to mention it stops me from dwelling on the things that make me sad.

Do I detect a hint of romance in the air? {biggrin]

Profe, that is a good age to teach right before hopefully they go nuts and don't listen. LOL I always liked the smaller schools, less problems I think with peer pressure --sometimes. I am not a teacher but had 2 boys in schools large and small.

Fenix, mrs irked's mom does have a weak leg after surgery affected the nerves and we think it is doe to that she keeps falling. Not a drop foot persay but weakness. She need to always use a cane but she is stubborn.

Maggie, real estate has gone up really high all over the province and Vancouver prices are the highest in Canada followed by Toronto. Almost all the places along the lakes in the interior where we camped when I was a child are now commercially developed.

Kiara-N.Y. is pretty safe.We have no mudslides,no tsumanis,no hurricanes,no raging forest fires,no earthquakes,no raging floods like El Paso.....however we do have high taxes.

Classic, somehow every time I think of New York I think that it would be cold in the winter. I've been spoiled for too long on the west coast and I think I’ve become somewhat of a wimp when it comes to lots of snow though I kind of miss it at times. In some ways it makes me want to move further into the interior again where real estate is a bit less and taxes are lower. After relocating here last fall I swore I'd never move again and now I've forgotten already how much work it was.

Kiara-I dont like the winters either.Me and the wife like warm weather. However as far as the snow goes,it really depends on where in N.Y. you live.If you live near Buffalo or Syracuse, you will get a lot more snow the then rest of the state. We live near Poughkeepsie which is about 75 miles north of NYC.At one point during a 7 year period in the mid 90's I only used my snow blower once each year,so it wasnt so bad. When I retired 3 years ago,we had thought about moving to a warmer climate-either Florida or Arizona. We crossed out Florida as its very humid and buggy at night. When I began to read about Arizona and the land of scorpions and snakes I crossed that off my list-so we'e still here LOL.

Classic

You can look at it like we do: We don't have hurricanes, we rarely have a tornado (last one around here was in the 1960's), earthquakes are so low on the Rickter Scale you can't feel them at all, no tsunami's, no brush fires . . . an occasional blizzard - that I can handle.

Edited to add: Oh, yes, lets not forget - no scorpions, giant roaches, rattlesnakes (we have snakes, but they don't pose much of a threat), no overgrown spiders, no killer bees, no alligators . . . best of all the creepy crawlers are not giant-sized. LOL!

aw come on Classic, where's yer sense of adventure? My son has a battery powered black light that he uses to go out at night and hunt scorpions. Did you know they glow in the dark? He saves them in a coffee can and then dumps them out next morning for the chickens. Apparently they are a real delicacy if you are of the poultry persuasion, the hens fight over them.
