Today's Rant:
My friend has a dispute with an insurance company(who doesn't?) and needed to prove she sent in her payment. So she sent in the COPY of the check that the banks now send out instead of the originals.
Welllllllll, that's not good enough....she needed the BACK of the check.
So she called the bank and ask them to send the check and they would do just that ...for FIVE BUCKS!
She had to pay to get back her own check!!!
What a great scam by the banking corporation!
Keep people's checks and then when they need them CHARGE them for their own checks!
Instead of sending back the original checks, store them for future RANSOM!
Now who pays for storage???Guess, it's passed on to customers.

Good advice , bear, but for some reason she refuses to have online banking! I told her how simple and easy it is (even for me) but she's worried about the safety....thinks someone will hack her account. So I guess she's stuck....the scam is still wrong however.

come on crow, you know its a Bush conspiracy
Along with changing banks, she might want to change insurance companies.Seems to me these people arent too brillant.I have NEVER had to get a cancelled check to prove I paid for something.
I also have online banking and it is a God send. I pay most of my bills(american express and Discovercard on line also,so I rarely write out checks. Since I get paid once a month, the whole check is automatically deposited in my checking account. At the end of the month,I transfer whats left over to my savings account-all done on line. The last time I physically was in my bank was 7 years ago.I also have a Visa Atm/check cashing card.So if I need money I just go to an Atm machine. If I need gas or go shopping,I use the atm card and its taken right out of my checking account-no interest fees.I hardly even use my credit cards anymore

It's only one of the ways banks are nickel-diming everybody to death. They've done everything they can to banish people from coming into their branches, while charging extra for services that used to be standard for account holders. I banked with Bank1 for years until I discovered they were charging me 4 bucks for online transactions per month if I went over a certain number. I had savings, checking, CD's, the ranch accounts, everything with these folks. I had their best premium account as well as my business accounts. I told them quite simply that if they wouldn't get rid of this loathsome charge they could kiss my accounts goodbye. No dice, they wouldn't budge. So I took a hike. Much better now.
