Chrysler to Cut 13,000 Jobs
By TOM KRISHER
AP
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (Feb. 14) - In the next three years, 13,000 Chrysler workers will lose their jobs under a wrenching restructuring announced Wednesday that eventually may lead to a DaimlerChrysler divorce.
The Chrysler unit of the German-American automaker announced its long-awaited plan at its Auburn Hills headquarters, saying it would cut 16 percent of the U.S. division's work force, a move it hoped would return its U.S. operations to profitability by next year.
The plan was announced only hours after Chrysler's parent, DaimlerChrysler AG, said it was considering "far-reaching strategic options with partners" and that "no option is being excluded" as it reported a 40 percent drop in companywide profit for the fourth quarter.
The plan calls for closing the company's Newark, Del., assembly plant, and reducing shifts at plants in Warren, Mich., and St. Louis. A parts distribution center near Cleveland also will be closed.
Under the plan, 11,000 production workers - 9,000 in the U.S. and 2,000 in Canada - will lose their jobs over the next three years, and 2,000 salaried jobs also will be cut - 1,000 this year and 1,000 in 2008.
The job losses are the latest in a yearlong series of devastating cuts in the ailing domestic auto industry, which likely will lose more than 100,000 jobs in all.
100,000 GOOD PAYING JOBS LOST UNDER BUSHY IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY ONLY. MILLIONS MORE COUNTRY WIDE. MANY GOOD PAYING JOBS REPLACED WITH JOBS OF LOWER PAY AND LESS BENEFITS.

This is sad isn't it Beepa.
Bush spends several hours each day closing plants, and contacting other plants, requesting they lay-off workers.
I am glad when he takes all those vacations. At least then Americans can be safe from loosing their jobs while he out riding horses.
According to some reports NOT ONE plant was closed during the Clinton regime.
The unemployment rate was Zero.
It probably was on CBS when Clinton was Prez reported by - Dan Rather.

I just read this morning that the 'Global WARMING' committee/whatever, couldn't get together to discuss it because [OH THE IRONY] it was too COLD/FREEZING to get there.
LOL LOL LOL
But I'm SURE President Bush caused that too, just so the meeting would be posponed. LOL

Isn't amazing how twits like peepa think they can prevent a compant from being competitive and at the same time wave their hand and think they can make the general public buy an overpriced uncompetitive product.

Its not like if they made a better auto, they might SELL more cars and trucks.
But NOOOOOO, blame their falling sales on Pres Bush.

Sorry if you new-cons can't face the truth about the guy that crumbled your dreams for a new-con religious based government.
Facts are its not only me that thinks BUSHY stinks as a President and Commander and Failure. BUSHY latest approval polls shows him at only 32 percent approval average.
People like myself see Bushy as not only destroying any chance you all had for a religious based government but we see BUSHY as the best thing since Nixon to get EVEN MORE Democrats into power in 2008.
Just look at the split the republican ranks have. They have McCain,Giuliani,in a dead-heat. That is very funny and very good for the Democrats.

"Chrysler said it will make 'better use of alliances and partnerships around the world', such as the minivan manufacturing deal between Chrysler and Volkswagen."
Currently VW Vans are a low quality product. It will be interesting to see how this deal works out. The van will be made by Chrysler and marketed under the Volkswagen name beginning 2008.

Anyone else notice peepa can't keep a coherent thread or respond on topic? Just blathers on and on, something about Bush or other.

aaaahhh does this mean assembly line workers will only get $20.00 an hour to turn a wrench instead of $80.00 ??
"President Bush is now closing plants????
ROFLMHO
Maybe these workers might want to apply for jobs with Toyota...they're doing QUITE well."

Absolute faith has been shown, consistently, to breed intolerance. And intolerance, history teaches us, again and again, begets violence.
---------------------------------- The duty of a patriot in this time and place is to ask questions, to demand answers, to understand where our nation is headed and why. If the answers you get do not suit you, or if they frighten you, or if they anger you, it is your duty as a patriot to dissent. Freedom does not begin with blind acceptance and with a flag. Freedom begins when you say 'No.'

"Isn't it amazing how twits like peepa think they can prevent a company from being competitive and at the same time wave their hand and think they can make the general public buy an overpriced uncompetitive product."
Imo, the problem is they don't THINK. They start running their mouths before they put their brain in gear.
Notice they NEVER want to mention the hourly wages those unskilled workers were getting BECAUSE of their UNIONS. Unions who have driven up the wage rates until people can't afford to by MANY things they produce.
And of course the quality of what they produce is rarely acknowledged either.
Won't see them talking about the SUCCESSES that Toyota are enjoying while the American car manufactures are falling further and further behind.
People aren't going to pay for for a car than I paid for my house back in the 70's to buy an unreliable piece of garbage that falls apart before it's even paid for.
But...the 'game' is to blame this President. How IGNORNANT they are.
Critics say Chrysler's present troubles stem from the Zetsche team's failure to anticipate last year's shift in U.S. customer demand to smaller vehicles in a time of persistently high prices at the pump.
As gasoline prices rose above $3 a gallon last year, though, demand for trucks quickly diminished and Chrysler and its dealers were caught with an oversupply of vehicles that weren't selling. In response, the company was forced to apply incentives that topped $5,000 on some models.

liar_k,
A government that is not waging war on the middle class to give tax brakes to the wealthy and industry can do a lot to promote better jobs for the American Worker.
You know it and I know it. Bushy's and his gang is the reason people like you have very little left in political power with more to lose in 2008. That's why you have become just plain EASY.
Remember liar_k we have surrounded new-cons like you and are watching and exposing your every sleazy move.

How many time have I had to listen to you new-cons blaming the American worker for all the job losses and stagnate wages along with less benefits under BUSHY. I know all their LIES about Unions and high wages plus their other lies about Americans not willing to work.
With BUSHY President of this country and a republicans majority in both houses. The republicans could have done a lot for the middle class American worker. Instead the republicans waged a war on the American middle class to the benefit of the wealthy and industry.
Because of BUSHY the republicans are more divided than ever with what some republicans call the (baby killer and Gay lover) Giuliani on one side, and what other republicans call a (WAR Monger) McCain on the other side. This divide is very good news for America and the DEMS going into 2008.

How many times do we have to read your johnny-one-note posts about the oppressors of the working masses, especially when you've posted you paid YOUR workers a fraction of what said oppressors pay (We know, you told us you gave them "compassion" instead, LOL). Too bad you don't put your money where your mouth is.
