PERFECT HAIR!!!!!!
Flip-Flopping, Hair Muss Romney's Campaign
POSTED: 2:54 pm EST February 28, 2007
UPDATED: 6:37 pm EST March 2, 2007
WASHINGTON -- We're getting a peek into one Republican's presidential campaign -- though he'd probably have preferred to keep it secret.
The Boston Globe got hold of what is supposed to be a PowerPoint presentation from former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign. And it covers a wide range of topics.
For one thing, it reveals that advisers worry that Romney's hair is too perfect.
There are also ideas for dealing with voters' concerns about him being a Mormon, and any perceptions that he's a "phony" or a "political opportunist."
In another section, it's suggested that Romney differentiates himself from a fellow Republican, President George W. Bush, with just a single word: "intelligence."
A Romney spokesman contacted by The Associated Press is declining to verify the document is authentic.
Critics Cite Flip-Flops
There is also a growing perception that Romney has committed a few too many turnarounds.
In his previous campaigns -- one for the U.S. Senate and one for Massachusetts -- Romney said abortion should be safe and legal. Now, he positions himself as strongly against abortion and wants Roe v. Wade replaced with state abortion regulations.
Romney sought support from gays in his Senate race, promising better support for their causes than his liberal opponent, Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. Now, he campaigns hard against same-sex marriage and civil unions.
Romney voted in the 1992 Democratic presidential primary for Democrat Paul Tsongas. Two years later, he said he did so because he favored the Massachusetts senator's ideas over those of Bill Clinton, and was sure President George H.W. Bush would be renominated. Now, Romney says he backed the candidate he thought might be the weakest opponent for Bush.
"I don't line up with the NRA," he said in support of gun control in two campaigns. Now, he is a card-carrying National Rifle Association member. He joined the organization in August.
Romney used to distance himself from President Ronald Reagan. Now he casts himself as a conservative in the mold of Reagan.
"Romney hasn't changed his mind on an issue, he's changed it on just about every issue in this campaign, including immigration, gun control, abortion, gay rights, campaign finance reform, tax cuts, health care, stem cell research -- even his own political heroes," the Democratic National Committee chided in a news release last week.
The comments are similar from conservatives.
"There is a sense that Romney has moved too far, too recently, on too much," an editorial in National Review, a conservative periodical, said last week. "At the moment, Romney is running on a businessman's typical theme of competitiveness along with a paint-by-the-numbers collection of conservative positions that seem to have no deeper rationale than getting to the right."

It's like McCain and Romney are out on the playground spinning around to see who can do the most 180's before falling on his face. Ruth Marcus has a good column on the Romney "makeover".

We lived in Utah for 21 years, near the mecca of Mormonism. DON'T TRUST ROMNEY. He's a member of the church that preaches against sin (like gambling and drinking) but looks the other way when its members run casinos and hotels in Las Vegas. We lived in Vegas when the Mormons moved in, with Howard Hughes's regime. It was hard for those of us who grew up in conservative churches to understand how the Mormons could run a business that involved sins they condemn.
But anything for the almighty buck. All the top church leaders in Mormondom are wealthy, successful businessmen (emphasis on MEN). If that church worships anything, it's the dollar.
A friend who had been a Mormon but defected told us the church has a prophecy that in the latter days the U.S. will be in deep trouble and a Mormon who's risen through the ranks of government will step in and save the nation.
The Church has quietly and steadily been moving Mormon men up through governmental ranks so someone will be in place in those dreadful times.
God help us if we have to live through a Mormon's version of "saving the nation"! Think gays, abortion rights, gun rights, women's rights, prayer in the schools--all the hot-button issues.
The Mormons in Utah didn't understand why the tax-supported public universities couldn't just hire the "good people" (the Mormons) instead of all those outsiders.
End of rant.

"""And I thought all liberals were supposed to be SO tolerant. Obviously some aren't.""
No, I don't tolerate two-faced hypocrites, lying, cheating, stealing, pedophilia, hate-speech, war-mongering, discrimination, bigotry...and a host of other things YOU DO tolerate.
WHO, WHERE, HOW did you come to the erroneous conclusion that every "liberal" tolerates everything ???
I don't care for any organized religious faith......it has nothing to do with tolerating them....there's a difference that with your obvious lack of education you will NEVER understand.

One does not need a higher educational level to have and use common sense
Liberals have always thought themselves to be so intellectually superior to others.
But most have NO common sense. Therefore they remain STUCK - out of touch - with most Americans. They live and strive to enter some FALSE sense of 'utopia'.
Keep trying..it'll give you something to live for. LOL
But reality is much different that the 'liberals' dreams.

LIAR_K said this about liberals,
"But most have NO common sense. Therefore they remain STUCK - out of touch - with most Americans. They live and strive to enter some FALSE sense of 'utopia'."
I will change ONE WORD to make her statement more fitting to the reality of today 3/4/07.
Neo-cons, most have NO common sense. Therefore they remain STUCK - out of touch - with most Americans. They live and strive to enter some FALSE sense of 'utopia'.

I know I'm sounding bigoted here, in my Mormon statements. I admit to bigotry in this case. If it can be called "bigotry," any more than is my "bigotry" toward theocracies anywhere in the world.
Live in Utah for a while and find out there's a reason why even good Mormons out of state sometimes fear moving there. When I worked for our chamber of commerce in northern Utah, I got calls from such outsiders asking lots of questions about how the church operates in the state, fearing they'd be "watched and reported on."
It is as close to a theocracy as you can get in the U.S. Sure, the individual Mormons we had as neighbors and friends are good people, but the church hierarchy is a different story. Very repressive, seeking to close golf courses and public (PUBLIC!!) swimming pools on Sundays as just one tiny example, imposing some of the most ridiculously convoluted liquor laws for a hundred years--until the Olympics were coming with their big dollars, and the church changed the liquor laws. There's a glass ceiling, and a non-Mormon (gentile there) can rise just so high in various organizations like the legislature or public education before hitting that ceiling. Some, but not many, break through--but they're the exceptions.

I would never call you a bigot, roadsmith. To me that's an intolerant word.
I believe all have a right to their positions....and all should be allowed to freely express them, whether anyone agrees or not.
What I do wonder, however, is why you wouldn't feel the same way towards the muslim religion....whose goals are to be the only world wide religion - and they have so many extremists in their religious system.
You don't accept the way the Mormons handle things....why are you so complacent about the muslims? Especially since the Mormons haven't threaten to destroy our economy or our lifestyles.
I think it's a fair question to ask.
Oh...and I did want to mention that I also have 'heard' what you described about the circumstances there in Utah.
edited to add:
This whole Romney/Mormon issue brings back memories about how so many were VERY concerned when JFK was running. They too worried about how much influence his Catholic religion would have on any Kennedy Presidency.
Thought by now...we'd be passed this.

Don't worry about mingopig or bigdopa. They cannot tell between fact or fiction and often prove it on these boards.

If it's called common sense, why do so few Demomorons have it?

Linda, sweetheart! You're jumping to conclusions again. The subject here was Mitt Romney, so I added what I've experienced and know about that church he's so big in.
I also hate the muslim theocracies so many of them are living in. That wasn't the subject here, so I (unlike some) decided to stick to the subject.

Oh....so you are one of those so called 'christians' who think only their religion is the 'correct way' huh?
Should have figured. After all you're also a progressive liberal who thinks I want to be her 'sweetheart'. LOL
I wasn't referring to why you didn't mention them in THIS thread. But rather in other threads where radical muslims and their actions WERE being discussed.
But now I understand.....you're one who thinks only YOUR mind set is the correct one. LOL LOL

WRONG WRONG WRONG! You think I'm a Christian; I've been a Protestant but am currently "unchurched" and not sure there's a God in heaven. And WHY ON EARTH should I jump into some of the other threads about muslims with my rambling thoughts (the way you do all the time). What a piece of work you are. Just shut your mouth for a while, honey. At least then you'll have a chance for people to THINK you're intelligent.
