OK, you food people, I have a friend who just found out she has breast cancer....I'm making up a gift basket for her. She LOVES chocolate so I want to include some...
The REALLY important question of the day is:
What is the BEST chocolate ? The absolute VERY BEST IN THE WORLD ?????

Mingo, please tell your friend I hope for a fast recovery.
In my stupid opinion, Lindt is the best chocolate. The big bars that are cream filled are to die for as well. White or milk chocolate are both equally delish!

Thanks Kraft! If you knew her you'd love her...she's just the nicest funniest happiest best good person! She cries about her cancer and then cracks jokes and laughs !!!She always shares her gourmet treats with me so I wanted to include some in her gift.
I agree on Lindt...one of my favorite brands!
I'm just not very up-to-date-trendy and thought there might be a "gourmet" chocolate somewhere that I missed.

Mingo, you can also try Godiva chocolates.

Lindt has an extreme dark that's about 90% cocoa. Barely sweet at all. Just sort of melts away on your tongue into unbelievable velvety richness. I like Godiva and Dove, but that particular Lindt takes chocolate beyond "candy". There is no possible way this substance could be bad for anybody.

Do you have any chocolate stores near you?
Freshly made right there, better than anything packaged.
They make some really cool stuff, too, not just chocolate covered pretzels but fun stuff, too, like rice crispie treats dipped in caramel than drizzled with chocolate ~ they even chocolate cover corn flakes!
The largest 'chain' would be Hoffmans ~ truly incredible and oh-so-yummy!
I prefer the local shops ~ they even give classes on chocolate making and sell the molds, etc (you can get them on eBaY for less).
If your friend is a chocoholic, it might be a good distraction hobby for her when she's feeling up to it.

Yup, used to have an excllent candy store in a nearby town...small family owned...candy made on the premises fresh everyday...THE BEST CHOCOLATES EVER! But, of course, in America there's no room for small business and they folded.
Listen here Kraft, we're not pigs ...but we do have our priorities!
And isn't it a nasty fact of life that just when you want to enjoy something SOMEONE just HAS to bring in their digestive system.
Does that bother anyone else? You're enjoying a nice meal or a treat and they have to mention the end result. How rude!

Look no further, y'all! A good friend of our daughter near San Francisco has started her own truffle company:
Gateau et Ganache, web site: www.gateauetganache.com
These are FABULOUS truffles. Our daughter had a small box sent to us for some occasion a couple of years ago. We opened it later, each took a small truffle, and MOANED. Better than sex, I swear. No matter how few or many are in a box, they're all different (with a legend, of course, to tell you what you're eating).
You can get them via mail order on her website above, and they're sent in protective padding so they don't melt in transit, and the box itself is beautiful. I think you can get a gift card, too.
My brother and his wife, who have tons and tons of money, sent us a box of truffles from France this Christmas in a wooden box, two drawers full of truffles. They weren't nearly as good as the ones I'm pushing here.
There was even a brass plaque on the box with our names on it. And the price was over $100 for perhaps 30 pieces. NOT worth it! ~Adele

Thanks Roadsmith, that's just the kind of thing I'm looking for. I know Lindt is extra special tastewise but I want the gift to LOOK special, too.

Rogers is an excellent chocolate too and they ship worldwide. It's always been a favorite when it comes to special gifts.

Thanks to you, too, Kiara, however I just dropped a bundle on ""Gateau et Ganache"".
Since I ordered some for myself I'll give a full report when it arrives.

Remember my recommendation about Gateau et Ganache? Anni just e-mailed that she's been reviewed now in a good publication:

I would stay away from Lindt chocolates. It is closely related to something else just as rotten.
