Tony Snow's Cancer Spreads To Liver
WASHINGTON, March 27, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(CBS/AP) White House Press Secretary Tony Snow told the White House Tuesday that a growth discovered in his lower abdomen is cancerous. Snow reported that the cancer has spread to the liver, according to deputy Press Secretary Dana Perino.
He is consulting with doctors on chemotherapy, Perino said, adding that Snow spoke with the president. Perino said Snow is feeling "pretty good."
Perino said Snow told her, "I'm gonna beat it again."
Snow underwent surgery Monday to remove a small growth in his lower abdomen, a procedure he said last Friday was being done "out of an aggressive sense of caution" because he had colon cancer two years ago.
Doctors determined that the growth was cancerous, and found during the surgery, which was exploratory, that his cancer had metastasized, or spread, to his liver, Perino said.
Snow said Friday that cancer tests have been negative since the growth — about the size of the tip of his small finger — was discovered in his lower right pelvic area. He said he feels fine but decided to have it removed now rather than having to continue monitoring it.
"Please do not leap to conclusions about this because we don't know what this is," Snow told reporters Friday. "We know it's coming out and I know I'll be back soon."
It is unclear if or when Snow will return to his duties. Perino, the White House's deputy press secretary, is leading the news briefings in his absence. She said she talked with him Tuesday morning and "he was helping me with talking points," said Perino, who broke into tears when she announced Snow's condition.
Perino said Snow also gave her some instructions to pass on to reporters: "Tell them not to bug me." He also thanked reporters and others for the outpouring of good wishes he has received.
Snow, 51, had his colon removed in 2005 and underwent six months of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with colon cancer. He and his wife have three young children.
Snow undergoes regular tests, including a PET imaging scan to help doctors see how organs and tissues are functioning, magnetic resonance imaging tests, and CAT scans to generate cross-sectional views and, if needed, three-dimensional images.
These scans revealed the growth in September. Though it has grown in size since, blood tests and further PET scans have not indicated a return of his cancer. He said it could merely be biopsied to see if it is cancerous, and then periodically checked afterward if not, but that he would rather just have it out.
The news came a week after Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, announced that her breast cancer has returned in an incurable, but treatable, form. Her husband's campaign will go forward.
"The biggest problem you have sometimes with cancer is flat-out fear," Snow said Friday. "When you see an Elizabeth Edwards saying, 'I'm going to embrace life and I'm going to move forward,' that is a wonderful thing."

Tony Snow knows what living with fighting cancer is all about.
I wish Mr.Tony Snow a good strong battle with his Cancer and hope it can be slowed for years if not cured.
Mr.Snow's words are much different than that pig Limbaugh. That Limbaugh pig is an example why I could never be around pigs like that.
If I were around when that pig bastard Limbaugh said the Edwards were trying to jump start John Edwards campaign with news about Mrs. Edwards cancer. I would have punched the fat bastard right in his fat mouth as often as I could.

Yes, his attitude is quite admirable. Several cancer specialists were interviewed on various cable news shows and they all said there are various treatments that could help extend his life. He is a gritty guy and will fight the good fight.

And where is Duhlinduh to rant about his horrible lack of ethics ...he worked WHILE he had cancer! ""He should've been home with his family blah blah blah"""....where is she???????

One can only hope you two whackos know whatever it is you're talking about.
Interesting that he has moved out of the public eye as opposed to having his corpse propped up on stage and lauded for his "courage" in a dog and pony show.

I believe Mr Snow is in the hospital recuperating from surgery. As the survivor of a fatal illness (not cancer) I believe I know what he is going through and wish him the best.

Poor duhsquirrel, being a repug makes it so hard to admire really decent, courageous people....afterall YOU worship as your god that yellow-bellied bush.....what would YOU know about good people ?????

Professionally, Tony Snow was employed to spin the Bush white house, and he did a hell of a job! I disliked that aspect about the man quite a bit, afterall, the people need more than spin, they need truth. Tony Snow, on a personal level, and I am sorry to hear about his relapse. I wish him the best, and, let's face it, as much trouble as Bush is in right now, without Tony Snow, it is even more bleak. We are pulling for you, Tony.

""Getting an illness does not make you "courageous" any more than being the victim of a murder cult makes you a hero.""
No, but going on with living, with difficult, demanding tasks instead of going home and wallowing in self pity IS courageous.
I certainly don't expect a neocon like you to understand courage since most of you think it consists of sending OTHER people to war.
Sending others to do what YOU WOULDN'T does not make you courageous.

question for davebraun -perhaps I'm thinking about this too hard, but i don't understand what you mean when you refer to yourself as a survivor of a fatal illness.
Perhaps the doctors told you it was going to be fatal - but you survived? or it was potentially fatal and you survived. Or (and I hope not) you are currently suffering from an illness that you will eventually die from?
I know it's really none of my business but that phrase struck me as very odd, actually it reminded me of some things I've seen on sci fi shows - like people who die and ascend to a different plane of existence!
So if you don't mind telling me, what did you mean?

Most reasonable people would interpret that to mean that he is a survivor of a very serious medical condition that could without treatment be fatal.
Davebraun is a well respected poster here. I'm sure that he did not intend to lead you to believe the sci fi nonsense that you considered.

I figured some would take offense when I asked. But I really don't think the phrase "survivor of a fatal illness" makes any sense.
Just because the phrase reminded me of some sci fi show plots doesn't mean I was "considering" that davebraun was suggesting any such thing.

Snow needs to do what is best for him and wish him the best. I was watching Keith Olberman last night and found his comments quite touching and amusing at the same time. It's funny how both Snow and Olberman share the bond of baseball, but are polar opposites when it comes to politics.
Interesting enough, Linduh is nowhere to be found...

""Interesting enough, Linduh is nowhere to be found... """
She hasn't been around much since there is no defense for all the crap coming out of the bushit administration......the huge avalanche of rot is too much even for her
Or, she had to get a job ....SS not being enough for her life style plus she needs health insurance
Or, her computer privleges have been recinded at the "home"
I know I have to read more slowly...I thought Helen said somethiing about unnecessary nose picking LOL!

I said to Cherishedclutter that since Dave's meaning is obvious, her critical question is simply unnecessary nosey nitpicking. The repetition of sound in that descriptive phrase may be remembered by clutter and hopefully we won't have to deal with such nonsense in the future.
I used a variant spelling of nosy which probably led to your misreading. Actually, your reading is a very effective description also...."unnecessary nose picking".

cherishedclutter.....just ignore hellen....she'll ALWAYS take offense at anything and everything she can. It's just how negative she is....not going to ever change that.
dave had a kidney transplant and loves to get attention by mentioning his 'illness' every chance he gets. Like all people with serious illnesses he COULD have died...but didn't. Not at all like the return of cancer to a cancer victim. But he seeks the attention.
helen slanders Tony's character. She could NEVER recognize a decent and honest man if she tried.
The return of his cancer, especially to his liver is grave news. I'm pleased to hear him being positive in his fight against this terrible disease. And I wish him the best....as I have said written via emails addressed to him at the White House.
"While the democratic party complains about everything THIS President does to protect our Nation": "What would a Democrat president have done at that point?"
"Apparently, the answer is: Sit back and wait for the next terrorist attack."

linduh on Edwards, ""Yea, and speaking about edwards....what a jerk....his wife has been diagnosed with re-occuring cancer and what is MORE important to him????
The campaign. Not spending her last few months, years with her and the children.....nope....typical low life liberals whose priorities are VERY screwed up.

I have never seen Dave trying to seek attention because of that nor have I seen him mention it much. Sadly I have seen others bring it up time and time again when they lack the ability to discuss issues on an intelligent level so prefer to make it personal about his health thinking they gain a point by being cruel.

I'm with Kiara. This is the first I am even hearing of Dave's illness. Never read any post of his that mentions it, until this one.
