West unable to act against Iran, Ahmadinejad says
Day after end of deadline to halt uranium enrichment and in light of possibility of additional sanctions, Ahmadinejad says 'sanctions will hurt Western countries more than they will hurt us'
Dudi Cohen and AP
The Western powers are unable to act against Iran, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Friday morning, the day after the end of a deadline set by the UN Security Council to halt its nuclear program.
On the backdrop of the increase in the United States' military pressure, as nine warships arrived in the Persian Gulf, Ahmadinejad spoke in the city of Golpaygan and said that "the Iranians are living in faith and unity under the leadership of Iran's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and therefore the world powers will not be able to make life difficult for them."
On Thursday, the Iranian president ruled out out even a brief halt in his country's nuclear program, saying it would hand a victory to the country's enemies who seek to prevent Iran from becoming a world power.
The ISNA news agency reported that the Iranian president referred to the Security Council's resolutions as "having no influence."
According to Ahmadinejad, "These sanctions will surely hurt them (the Western countries) more than they hear us, and will bear no fruit."
Ahmadinejad's outburst followed Wednesday's report by the UN nuclear watchdog that said Iran has expanded its controversial uranium enrichment program in defiance of UN demands for a suspension.
The report could set the stage for a third round of UN Security Council sanctions against Iran.
The Iranian president is currently visiting the Isfahan region, where the nuclear facility for uranium enrichment is located. At the moment it is unclear whether he plans to visit the facility, but inspectors of the UN nuclear agency are visiting the site these days.
Mohammad Saidi, head of the International Department of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said Thursday that the inspectors were visiting the Isfahan facility according to the decisions of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and that they would move on from there to the uranium enrichment facility in Natanz.
Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful, aimed only at developing energy, and has touted it as a sign of its technological prowess. The United States and its allies contend it is secretly aiming to develop nuclear weapons.
But in a reflection of international divisions on how to handle the crisis, the US has lodged a complaint against the head of the UN nuclear agency, Mohamed ElBaradei, for suggesting that Iran be allowed to keep some elements of its uranium enrichment, diplomats said. Such comments could undermine efforts to pressure Iran into fully scrapping the program.
US President George W Bush said Thursday he would work with allies to beef up sanctions on Iran. ''We need to strengthen our sanctions regime,'' Bush said in a Rose Garden news conference. Leaders of Iran ''continue to be defiant as to the demands of the free world.''
======================================
So, those who support the Iranian madman - believing Iran should be allowed to become a nation with NW capabilities - you should be THRILLED he is continuing to be defiant to the world body YOU also support.
Personally, I think we should bomb all known NW facilities in Iran. The UN and the world body is going to do NOTHING but talk, talk talk. And this is too important to be allowed to come to fruition.

Your total confusion belongs ONLY to you sybil.
The whole world has been TALKING and putting sanctions in place. They're NOT working....and the madman continues to throw it in our faces that they NEVER will.
So...I say take him at his word. Bomb the #*!@ out of those NW facilities, like Israel did a long time ago. It put them 10 years backwards. They need that done again, obviously.
And there have been posters HERE who have supported the madman of Iran by saying their position is since WE, the US, have NW then Iran should also be allowed to have them.
Just goes to prove how they can't see a difference between the world leaders having this power vs the madman from Iran having them.
Did you or any other liberal here EVER answer my long asked question? I've asked all of you over and over just HOW you believe Iran is going to 'wipe Israel off the face of the earth' as the madman continues to spew....with ONLY a NW ENERGY program?
lol lol
I know the reason you/they don't answer is because you know that ALL know they CAN'T do so with an ENERGY program.
DUH.
But I have NO doubt IF the UN was asking/demanding the US do anything.....each and everyone of you radicals here would be SCREAMING we do it.
But with the madman of Iran....he gets a pass from all of you, just like you all gave to saddam.....no matter he too defied UN resolutions for 13 years. lol You all were/are STILL screaming he should have been given more time. LOL
That's the liberal way....TALK about everything FOREVER...and EVER...and EVER.
The whole world will be a GRAVE risk should Iran become NW capable. And everyone knows that.

Mingo, it's a silly response to an imbecile who has chosen to set us up as the ones she uses to rant against daily.
No matter what our beliefs or our life style, she has assumed them for each of us without basis of facts or any proof. When told otherwise, she insists we are liars and continues onward, topic after topic calling us radical leftie, socialist, Saddam lover, traitor, commie pinko, amoral, anti- American, terrorist supporters.
The voices in her head tell her who we are, what our positions on each topic are, and then the other voices in her head agree with her and support her whole-heartedly as she rages against us.
Considering she is wrong and unwilling to ever change her mind, I will continue to pity her and laugh at her ignorance.

By STEVEN R. HURST and QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA, Associated Press Writers 2 hours, 20 minutes ago
BAGHDAD - The United States and
Iran broke a 27-year diplomatic freeze Monday with a four-hour meeting about Iraqi security. The American envoy said there was broad policy agreement, but that Iran must stop arming and financing militants who are attacking U.S. and Iraqi forces.
Iranian Ambassador Hassan Kazemi Qomi told The Associated Press that the two sides would meet again in less than a month. U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker said Washington would decide only after the Iraqi government issued an invitation.
Just before 10:30 a.m., al-Maliki greeted the two ambassadors and led them into a conference room, where they sat across a long, glistening wood table from each other. Al-Maliki then made a brief statement before leaving.
He told both sides that Iraqis wanted a stable country free of foreign forces and regional interference. Iraq should not be turned into a base for terrorist groups, he said, adding that the U.S.-led forces in Iraq were only here to help rebuild the army, police and infrastructure.
The United States had no plans to launch a strike against Iran from Iraq, he said.

Finally using DIPLOMACY !!!
Now, while I still think the bushit administration WANTS a war with Iran at least they're putting on a show of diplomacy and they might accidently find that TALK works.
But linduh thinks the answer to every problem is violence. She thinks bombing Iran's Nuclear facilities will HAVE NO CONSEQUENCES !!!!
Typical "use violence" attitude of a street punk....no thought to the consequences...

I can honestly admit I'm not sure, Profe. Maybe because I've always been considered quite moderate in my views by those in my household and in the workplace I resent someone constantly trying to portray me as someone I'm not. Even when Helen took time to clearly explain her views to Linda the other day she was told she was lying about her own beliefs.
Maybe part of me was silly enough to hold out some hope that since we continue to post on the same board and opinions are expected to differ somewhat, that Linda would eventually open her mind and see that I am not as radical or immoral as she tends to think I am.

I could care LESS if kiara approves/likes/condones my positions or any belief I have.
Is kiara trying to win MY approval??? lol lol lol
And besides, I don't see her posts here this way at all. But rather that she enters MOST threads NOT posting to the topic subject but rather jabbing about personal issues, taking things said in the past and twisting them to hell and back.... then whining about the same coming back to her. Like she can sure dole it out...but can't take it coming back to her.
She LOVES playing her games here....is the way I judge most of her posts. To stir the sh1t and say most anything for attention. She and sybil do little else here, imo.
sybil has LONG been obsessed with me. Now kiara is following in her footsteps and appears to be her 24/7/365 lately....just waiting to RESPOND to anything I post.

I think that's a personal decision. It's the internets, after all. If somebody comes here purely for sport and to taunt those who disagree, then I guess it's not appropriate, and more power to them. For me, trying to hold a discussion with such people is an exercise in futility and I've decided there are better ways to amuse myself. You know, sticking sharp objects under my fingernails or eating lint or something. Much more amusing not mention intellectually stimulating. There are people everywhere in life who deserve the favor of a response, and there are those who plain don't.

It depends on my mood - sometimes I ignore them, sometimes I enjoy seeing others shove it to them and sometimes I enjoy being in on it, especially if it's a bit silly. I'm more easily amused in a day than outraged.
Actually one of my favorites was the banana one. That one still makes me smile.
