I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was sentenced today to 30 months in prison for lying to investigators in the CIA leak case. He also was fined $250,000. Libby was found guilty in March of lying about what he told reporters about CIA operative Valerie Plame.

tsk tskt tsk
Couldn't get the ones they wanted so have to settle for lying.....just like the president did whom they supported. LOL LOL
He should have gone to jail too.
Just proves that life in the political arena is not a fair one.

Sandy Berger went through the justice system. He was investigated, pled guilty and received probation and a fine. He also voluntarily gave up his law license. That's the way the cookie crumbles and the way the justice system works. A lot of people think OJ should be in jail too. Libbey was found guilty, no matter what you think. We can speculate that the jury had a lot of information not available to the public and had the advantage of hearing every boring detail of the case. They found him guilty. He can appeal. Enough said.

LOL sandy berger was protecting clintons actions in regards to AQ/terrorism.
So much so that he gave up his profession to protect him.
Must have been something REAL bad in the documents he stuffed in his pants/etc. Slick willie used his 'freinds' again....all to protect him.
Someday we'll find out what clinton did that was worth giving up his own life to save the coward. And I hope it's before AQ strikes again.
The liberals threw BS at the big boys....and couldn't get them. So your forced to settle for the little crumb of 'lying'....which you supported over and over and again.
I find it hysterical.
And I hope his appeal frees him from this liberal witch hunt.

Important enough that he would go to jail rather than tell.....

Liberals? Judge Reggie B. Walton assumed his position as a United States District Judge for the District of Columbia on October 29, 2001, after being nominated to the position by PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH and confirmed by the United States Senate (Republican majority.) In May 2007, Chief Justice John Roberts appointed Judge Walton to serve as a Judge of the United States Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which is a 7 year appointment. Judge Walton was also appointed by President Bush in June of 2004 to serve as the Chairpersoon of the National Prison Rape Reduction Commission, a two-year commission created by the United States Congress. Former Chief Justice Rehnquist apponted Judge Walton to the Federal Judiciary's Criminal Law Committee, effective October 1, 2005.
This is the same judge who said there was overwhelming evidence of Libby's guilt.

Coincoach, you have to realize that repugs like linduh and bushit don't recognize laws which hold Republicans accountable. They feel that laws are only for others.
Just like I said before....ONE set of rules for sandy burlgar a dem and another used for Libby....where no crime as even been established.
And I don't think anyone believes, for even ONE minute, that had this been a democrat you'd be ignoring the whole subject. So don't pretend it's only conservatives, reps, etc. that does that.
And I haven't ignored it - like the liberals here do when it's about THEIR representatives. So quit your crying.

Libby was convicted of obstruction. So yes there was a crime that was committed. Quit your crying and SHUT UP for a change. <grin>

linduh posts, ""and another used for Libby....where no crime as even been established""
So she believes lying and obstruction of justice are fine, nothing wrong with it...as long as you are a repug.
Libby lied about a National Security concern...that's OK according to linDUH.
Clinton lies about his private life which is no one's business and certainly not a security concern........and ohhhh that's bad...

Cheney’s ex-aide faces jail time in CIA leak case; sentencing set for June
NBC News and news services
Updated: 8:18 p.m. CT March 6, 2007
WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby,
was convicted
Tuesday of lying and obstructing a leak investigation that reached into the highest levels of the Bush administration.
(NO crime established????!!!! )
Libby is the highest-ranking White House official to be convicted of a felony since the Iran-Contra scandal of the mid-1980s. The case brought new attention to the Bush administration's much-criticized handling of weapons of mass destruction intelligence in the run-up to the Iraq war.
The verdict culminated a nearly four-year investigation into how CIA official Valerie Plame's name was leaked to reporters in 2003. The trial revealed that top members of the administration were eager to discredit Plame's husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who accused the administration of doctoring prewar intelligence on Iraq.

What are you talking about? No crime has been established? Hello! He was CONVICTED! That establishes the crime pretty good. He had a fair trial presided over by a judge appointed by Bush---no bias there.
I can only speak for myself, but anyone who is convicted of a felony, no matter what his political affiliation, should be punished.
Sandy Berger plea bargained with BUSH'S Justice Department and received punishment, such as it was, because of this deal. Libby could have done the same, I am sure.

As I have stated before Linda is living in her own fantasy world. She can not comprehend Libby was tried and convicted on obstruction of justice charges.
It is to bad Paris Hilton was released from prison, Libby and Hilton would have been great cell mates.
Maybe Libby can take a cue for Paris and go on home monitoring for "medical reasons".

Another pipe dream from Linda. Convicting someone when they were not guilty.
Linda needs to take some law/civic classes because only the guilty are convicted of a crime and get a sentence.
Furthermore Libby was found guilty of obstruction. It may not have anything to do with the original charge, but nonetheless he obstructed a federal investigation. That is the CASE and the CRIME for which he was convicted. Most of us here are able to understand that, but I guess there are some that comprehend the obvious.

No, ld, it's just because you are too stupid to grasp what has happened in this case.
YOUR ignorance...nothing more.
==================
And I agree with Rudy: [quote taken from CNN]
"I mean, the sentence was grossly excessive in a situation in which, at the beginning, the prosecutor knew who the leak was, and he knew a crime wasn't committed," the former mayor added, saying that Judge Reggie Walton's sentence "argues more in favor of a pardon, because this is excessive punishment."
====================================
And I certainly hope that either this president or the next republican president does give him a pardon for this total miscarriage of justice.

I am perfectly aware what happened in this case. It is you that can not grasp the fact Libby obstructed an investigation, was tried, convicted and now has to go to prison.
If you are stopped by a police office for something you believe you did not do and resist arrest. The officer can arrest you can you can be charged for that crime even if you are not charged for the original thing the office pulled you over for.
Now sign up for some law classes and you might learn something for a change.

No, I'm completely aware of what the witch hunters accomplished.
This was a liberal political move and it worked.
Doesn't make it right, doesn't make it moral, and certainly doesn't make it EQUAL JUSTICE under our laws.
Anyone who has the ability to compare the liberals that have gotten away with or nothing but a hand slapping....would rightlyfully see this as nothing but a total miscarriage of justice.

You had no problem when the witch hunters did the same thing to Clinton during the Whitewater investigations. It is just more of your double standards Linda. You are just upset that Clinton was not impeached for his wrong doing while Libby has to serve jail time.
Poor Baby. Life isn't always fair. He will just have to deal with it.

He IS dealing with it you idiot. His lawyers are appealing the judgement.
And if that doesn't work then the President SHOULD pardon him.....just as clinton did with all the criminals he freed who had much more serious charges against them than 'lying'.
Maybe it was clinton's own guilt about all the lying he did.... lol lol lol
And fitzgerald had to have something after all the money he spent on this witch hunt for the democratic party.
That's all they've done for the past six years....and they're still doing the same thing.
NOT dealing with the issues the voters expect them too....NOPE....political PAYBACKS is all they're focused on.

Bush's Justice Dept prosecuted this case and Bush's Judge presided. How is this a Liberal witch hunt? Either the case is there or it isn't. Either the evidence is there, or it isn't. The jury found that it was overwhelmingly there. The Judge agreed.

But didnt Bush promise to bring back honesty and credibility back to the White House after the Clinton trial. Now how will Bush do that if he pardons Libby. So much for Bush keeping his promises.
Nice to see that you admit the Republicans did do a witch hunt against Clinton so it just wasn't Libby that had a wicth hunt.

press secretary Dana Perino said the president had no plans to intervene in the case.
"The judge has set up a process for which Scooter Libby and his attorneys can appeal both the judge's decision today, as well as the jury verdict," she told reporters shortly after the sentence was handed down. "And given that and in keeping with what we have said in the past, the president has not intervened so far in this or any other criminal matter, and so he is going to decline to do so now, as well."
Mrs. Perino declined to say whether Mr. Bush would consider a pardon in the future, adding only: "Given the fact that the judge has set up a process for appeal and given the way the president has handled this for the past year or so, he's not going to intervene."
But George Stephanopoulos, who served in the Clinton White House and is now ABC News' chief Washington correspondent, said on "ABC World News" that Mr. Bush "will come under tremendous pressure from Libby's allies" to issue a pardon. The Wall Street Journal said it was "the cowardice and incompetence" of the Bush administration that led to Libby's conviction and "feeling 'terrible' won't keep his man out of prison."
All but two of the Republican presidential candidates skirted the issue during a debate Tuesday night.
Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas and Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado said they would pardon Libby.
Former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani said the case "argues more in favor of a pardon," and former Massachusetts Gov.
Mitt Romney said it's "worth looking at a pardon."
Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy G. Thompson said he likely would pardon Libby;
Sen. John McCain of Arizona said, "He's going through an appeal process. We've got to see what happens here";
former Virginia Gov. James S. Gilmore III,
former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Reps. Duncan Hunter of California and Ron Paul of Texas said they would not pardon him, at least without learning more about the case.
Actor and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, an unannounced Republican presidential candidate who did not attend the debate, said on Fox News' "Hannity & Colmes" he would "absolutely" pardon Libby if he were president.
" It's a gross injustice perpetuated in large part by this CIA and this Justice Department and this special counsel who they appointed -- and it ought to be rectified," he said.
No one was convicted for the leaking of Mrs. Plame's identity after her husband, former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, disputed Mr. Bush's justification of the war in Iraq. Former Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage has admitted revealing her name to reporter.
