Just heard it on Meet the Press. He prefaced the endorsement talking about Republican tactics, including demonizing Obama as an Arab, as though that makes him evil.

I'm glad to get this news! A Repub. campaign staffer said a few minutes ago on tv that "it's just one more endorsement" and implied it was no big deal. Of course the guy knows better.

I love Powell's style and substance. Thank God someone with his stature has the common sense and dignity to ask why patriotic American children can't dream of becoming President because they're Muslim... I also thought he was brilliant in emphasizing Obama's inclusive approach to solve large problems vs McCain's exclusive approach.

pixiamom - Couldn't agree more! I about cried when he talked about the Muslim soldier who was 14 when 9/11 happened and then went to fight for his country - THIS ONE - and died in Iraq at the age of 20!
Cheryl
Whitman said she and McCain share a philosophy of scaling back the role of government. a point of view partly shaped by her EBay experience. "The EBay model is very Republican in its essence -- it's about making a small number of rules and getting out of the way while not overtaxing the community," she said.

There is no doubt that Colin Powell can make a good case and tell a good story. But who needs the support of a man who slam dunked a war down the throats of the American people? That man is not Barack Obama.
Obama will win this election with or without Colin Powell's endorsement.

Powell was duped by Bush's misinformation, as were the majority of senators and representatives. Get over it, Helen. Obama has, and he's SOUGHT Powell's support in a face-to-face and six long telephone conversations, all initiated by Obama in recent months. As Powell pointed out, Obama's path to healing is to cross party lines, include as many as you can in the solution and not hold grudges. From what I hear, Obama welcomes Powell's support.

Opportunistic moves seem to define Powell's behavior. His apology for delivering false and misleading testimony before the UNSC when the truth was revealed is one such move. That's my opinion. And no, I will not as you suggest, "get over it."
Maybe you see such an apology as honorable and that such an apology somehow negates the harm that his testimony produced. I do not.

Limbaugh: Where are the inexperienced, white liberals Powell has endorsed?
Rush Limbaugh said Colin Powell's decision to get behind Barack Obama appeared to be very much tied to Obama's status as the first African-American with a chance to become president.
"Secretary Powell says his endorsement is not about race," Limbaugh wrote in an e-mail. "OK, fine. I am now researching his past endorsements to see if I can find all the inexperienced, very liberal, white candidates he has endorsed. I'll let you know what I come up with."
As for Powell's statement of concern this morning about the sort of Supreme Court justices a President McCain might appoint, Limbaugh wrote: "I was also unaware of his dislike for John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Anthony Kennedy and Antonin Scalia. I guess he also regrets Reagan and Bush making him a four-star [general] and secretary of state and appointing his son to head the FCC. Yes, let's hear it for transformational figures."
It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.George S. Patton

Anyone who listens to Powell's reasons for voting for Obama will quickly realize that the Gasbag is full of it. It was only a matter of time before some Republican shill accused Powell of racial reasons for his vote, and Rush hasn't let us down. Dependable, that's what he is. I expect O'Reilly will be next.

Bear, You and Limbaugh are 2 world class racists.
Using your warped thinking,I can also say that you and Limbaugh support McCain because he is white.

Coach, maybe they support him because he cheated on his wife and is TOO OLD to be a president.
Clearly, McCain is out of touch and soon we will all know that he is NOT what we want in a president.

Bear, I don't listen to Limbaugh, maybe you post his research and subsequent proof, sounds kindof like when Palin said she'd get back with Couric (did she?)! LOL

deichen, Great minds think alike! I have no problem with anyone supporting McCain on the issues, even though I vehemently disagree with his platform and his choice of VP. What I despise in people like Bear and Limbaugh is all the extraneous and vile attacks regarding terrorism, race, associations. They lie as easily as they breathe. Limbaugh does it because he gets off on the power of leading his fans around by the nose. Bear is like a little boy trying to get attention from his parents, even if it is negative.
It is unforgivable to incite already borderline people and whip them into frenzies of hate and violent behavior. The nerve of Limbaugh to proclaim that Powell's reason for endorsing Obama is race. Powell made his case very articulately and reasonably. Limbaugh says Powell never endorsed a white liberal, so it must be race. Huh? This is a unique period in our history--fraught with serious problems. It is more important than ever to pick the right person to lead us through it. Powell feels Obama is the one to do that. Period. End of story.
