Palin 'Going Rogue,' McCain Aide Says
CNN
(Oct. 25) - With 10 days to go until Election Day, long-brewing tensions between GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and key aides to Sen. John McCain have become so intense they are spilling out in public, sources say.

Several McCain advisers have suggested to CNN that they have become increasingly frustrated with what one aide described as Palin "going rogue." A Palin associate, however, said the candidate is simply trying to "bust free" of what she believes was a damaging and mismanaged roll-out.

McCain sources say Palin has gone off message several times, and they privately wonder if the incidents were deliberate. They cited that she labeled robocalls -- recorded messages often used to attack a candidate's opponent -- "irritating" even as the campaign defended their use. Also, they pointed to her telling reporters she disagreed with the campaign's decision to pull out of Michigan.
A second McCain source tells CNN she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign.
"She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," said this McCain adviser. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.
"Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom."

A Palin associate defended her by saying she is "not good at process questions" and that her comments on Michigan and the robocalls were answers to process questions.
But this Palin source acknowledged that Palin is trying to take more control of her message, pointing to last week's impromptu press conference on a Colorado tarmac.

What does a grumpy old man expect when, in an erratic fit, he chooses an unknown, unproven "maverick" as his running mate? What does "not good at process questions" mean and why is Palin proud of it?

"What does "not good at process questions" mean"

Good question. My guess is "Republican speak" for "I am clueless."

Process questions generally refer to how something works rather than focusing on the end result. For example in this case she doesn't understand how robocalls work but just calls them "irritating".

Reminds me of a discussion with my husband about how he could set up a computer in his basement machine shop. He said that he didn't need a keyboard...just a screen and a mouse. LOL!

In one of those many seminars I and women members of our chamber of commerce attended in the mid-80s, we were warned that we don't usually grow up knowing how important teamwork is. Many of us women have grown up as loners out in the world, and since many of us never played on a sports team, the concept of teamwork is often missing.

As a result, we run the risk of becoming rogues for our organization instead of seeing our role as important "for the good of the organization," not for our own benefit necessarily. I learned that lesson well, but in politics I had to stop myself occasionally from being a maverick.

I know that Palin did play basketball, but it doesn't seem to have taught her much about teamwork. It does look as though she's in this for herself. Yet more fallout from McCain's disastrous decision.

Karl Rove with Chris Wallace on Fox News:

WALLACE: Let me ask you about another aspect of this, because there are growing reports about dissension with regard to Sarah Palin, that supposedly she has turned on some of the McCain advisers who are assigned to her campaign, thinks that they did a very bad job rolling her out.

They conversely are saying that she's a diva and that she has gone — I love these expressions — she's gone rogue, which means she's not following the McCain speaking points. What do you know about that, and what do you make of the — this fight between the McCain camp and the Palin camp?

ROVE: Yeah, look. This is a story line the media likes. I do know this, talking to some people inside the McCain campaign who are working with Palin, they have enormous respect for her abilities. And I think this is maybe a little bit overblown.

But look. This is, again, as you say, not the kind of thing you like to have happening in your campaign. And it's generally a sign that people are throwing in the towel and thinking that they're going to lose.
