So sad to see how few Round Table postings there are. Let's catch up on each other, shall we?

We had what I call our annus horribilis in 2009. Two episodes (one each) that took us by ambulance down the mountain to the nearest hospital for what could have been life threatening things--a nose that wouldn't stop bleeding (blood all over our place) for husband and a swollen tongue for me which could have stopped my breathing. Both were fixed, thank goodness, and we have no idea what caused my swollen tongue. The drs told my husband that he was lucky it was a vein in his nose that blew (no pun intended) rather than in his brain.

Then my back surgery and then my hip replacement (matching hips now), and various other things like my ear infection (better now) and a scary biopsy after a routine mammogram (negative). Seemed like we were always driving off the mountain to see one dr. or another. Thank goodness we have each other.

So. . . 2010 is another year, and it's off to a better start. How are all of you? Come clean now. . . .

I'll go. It's quiet around here. Has been since fall. Everyone's health is fine, other than my back that's apparently falling apart. I got an MRI and neurologist told me to stop riding horses. "Stop breathing, you mean?" "Well, at least stop BREAKING them yourself". So I have retired from breaking the babies and have a kid in training who THOUGHT he knew how to break horses but is actually learning how to do it without violence now. The girls are off on their lives with no boyfriends in sight (at least not in MY "sights" and sonny is about to graduate high school from the Instituto Monterrey, so he'll be home by June or so. He has a girl down there, she's from Germany, so I expect a trip to Stuttgart is in his future. Retirement doesn't suit me very well, and to avoid becoming a chronic pain in the butt for SWMBO I have begun traveling to dangerous remote villages in Mexico and scavenging old doors, gates, ironwork and other junk out of dumps and ruined houses, which I bring to Tucson where it gets sold to people with more money than sense to decorate their Santa Fake McMansions. She's just sure I'm gonna get in some crossfire jackpot with the dopers, but better that than having me home all the time. Home now and waiting for lambing and kidding season to begin next month. I like to be present at as many births as I can, so March to April is pretty much sleepless. Adele, I've got a lot of friends who it seems schedule their lives around trips to various doctors. I believe I'd just as soon ride off down the canyon and not come back as have to live like that. I hope your year is healthier!

Who's next?

Hey Adele - sorry for all the health problems but hope things are much better now.

Prof - you have such an interesting life, and very out of the ordinary what with breaking horses, scrap collecting, and lambing. I would love being a part of it. Maybe in the next life.

Looks like I am going to be a grandma again to another little boy, (and they told my daughter she wouldn't have any babies). Her Dr should be sued for child support. If I can get my get up and go, going, I will go out to CA in May for the arrival of the 2nd baby. I just turned 75 and am feeling it. Also I got a new pup and she is a handful. (I must have had a brain f*** when I rescued her). She is so sweet tho and have a trainer to help me.

No. Florida has really had a cold winter and it is in the 30's at night and barely making it to the 50's during the day. Supposed to warm up this weekend tho. Usually we are in the 60's this time of year. Even with the solar paneling, the pool is much too cold but should warm up about April.

After nearly 11 years, I am still managing to list a few things on Feebay but it is getting tiresome with all their stupid rules, etc. Will have a garage sale in April and get rid of my priceless items that I don't have time to sell. 11 years ago they were priceless, now they are just junk.

Enough of my mundane life, who's next??

It snowed on the east coast continuously for several days with an accumulation of several feet.
Although I avoid doctors like the plague, the thought did cross my mind that it would be impossible to get emergency vehicles into our neighborhood.
So, I spent my time writing letters to various county officials about their failure to plow the road.

Finally, a fire truck was sent on a sort of reconnaissance mission to access the condition of roads in our area. And guess what! The damn thing got stuck almost in front of my house. In an effort to move, the fire engine only slid into a parked car several times reducing it to a total loss. After the entire side of a neighbor's car was demolished, the National Guard arrived, equipped with chains and shovels in a Humvee, followed by the Fire Chief. As several National guardsmen began to shovel etc. the first question that I heard was, who was driving the fire truck.

Maryland was overwhelmed but after this event enormous front end loaders were requisitioned from Florida. Since we were running out of food etc. it was so wonderful to see those good southern boys who knew what they were doing and had the equipment to handle the job.

Good to see that we're all still rolling our rocks up the hill!

I wondered about you in that storm helen. We had 6 inches of rain in 4 days, but no snow. For us, that's about 1/3 of a year's worth of rain. My pastures are still soggy, but we'll have plenty of grass this spring and my hay bills will go down for the rest of the year.

There must be some more of you creepin' around here, sign in!!

I've been on a cruise for the last 2 weeks. I'm just like the girl from Ipanema except for the tall, young and lovely part. A sunburn combined with massive freckles fusion creates a nice glowing tan. So sorry to hear about your and dh health problems, Roadsmith. Growing old sucks, but it beats the alternative.

Retired here, for the second time. The first time was actually a layoff but they enticed us with decent money to 'retire' so they would not be seen as a company that laid off people. I got a part time job and just retired from that after 6 years, it was fun but now it is time to leave the corporate world and do something else. We are going to drive from Indiana to Washington state to visit family by going through Yellowstone Park and other great places and then when we leave there we will drive down highway 101 into California and then come home by way of Reno, NV and other interesting places. We have wanted to do this for years and plan to take 4 to 5 weeks doing it. No eBay for a couple of months this summer, hope to come back rested and energized! I am so sorry roadsmith for your health problems and prof for them not wanting you to break horses. I hope the snow finally melted in the east and Florida warms up soon! A good year to all!

May I never become an old biddie who becomes a professional patient or a two week drifter on the Caribbean.

I would like to retire to a boat to live year round.... a boat large enough to be Chesapeake Bay seaworthy without a crew and small enough to rock with the waves at night.

Sheesh, Helen. I hope you said that in jest. Nobody has a goal of being a professional patient.

I know it's hard to tell sarcasm from straight statement in print. . . .

That was a sincerely felt comment for MYSELF.

Actually, some people do enjoy it. Rest assured that I did not have you in mind when I wrote that comment but it was sincerely intended for myself.

I agree with Profe. I too would rather ride off down the canyon and not come back as have to live like that.

Nice try, Roadsmith, for trying to keep this board open. Perhaps you can see why new posters with less patience retreat after the first callous reply to their thread. I was worried that my response was too flippant. I have friends and family who have gone through medical experiences similar to yours, yet have lived full and productive lives afterward.

As far as becoming a drifter, I offer no apologies. I met many wonderful souls from all parts of our planet. Visited 8 countries, tied tighter the bonds of 11 family members and friends. Helen, what did you do the first 2 weeks of February?

Pixiamom, the fact that you can be so offended by my statement above must be an indication of excessive sensitivity on your part. I simply stated my preferences just as you stated yours. The fact that we may not enjoy the same activities or lifestyle is not an issue with which to find offense. My activities during the first two weeks of February may seem mundane to you in comparison to your cruise but not to me.

Your repeated insinuation that my comments scare people off and is the cause of this dead board is untrue and downright nasty. I have been a member of this board for several years before you joined, when the Round Table and Ebay Outlook were both popular and well integrated groups. Unfortunately, when Vendio required credit card registration, many good people left the Round Table. Most of those posters moved to a board called OTWA which has been disbanded.

Then Vendio changed their format so that the Round Table was not as easily accessible to those who might want to read the board or become a member. On another board I was surprised when a major poster told me that she tried to read the Round Table and couldn't find it.

It's really insulting to those Vendio members that you claim are staying away from this board because they can't deal with conflict. A board with nothing but sweetness and light will surely fail.

***A board with nothing but sweetness and light will surely fail.*** (Helen)

Pixi: I'd never accuse you of being overly sensitive. Truly Helen either must not understand why she's Always Misunderstood OR she thrives on playing the old "Read My Mind" game. None of us can fix her.

Helen, you associate your post to Profe's, who has positive comments about what he's doing, where he's headed. Yet you offer nothing but vitriol attacks on the paths other have chosen. You still haven't told us what makes your life superior. If you accuse me of stating that you are partially responsible for the demise of RT, I can't deny it.

Where exactly, Pixiamom have I said that my life is "superior" or even superior than yours. You won't find that statement anywhere...not even an intimation of that remark. Neither will you find a "vitriol attack".

I simply stated how I would prefer to live my life. You have a right to state your preference and I have a right to state my preference. What is so difficult to understand about that?

If you believe that I have single-handedly caused the demise of RT, that is your single minded problem.

At least we both agree with Profe's post.

I like and respect Helen's posts. I also respect some republican posts, including yours, Stone. If roundtable is meant to be a political forum with differing sides yelling at each other, then it has failed. If it is meant for non-market-specific discussions,, perhaps it has succeeded at last.

See, Pixia. You really love me.

Could it possibly be that you are overly sensitive, not only for yourself but for others too? Maybe that is why you believe that Ebay Outlook posters need special consideration when they post here. When I read Ebay Outlook and occasionally post there I see people who are interested in the business concepts of buying and selling on Ebay or related sites...intelligent people who are not afraid of conflict.

Relax and try to develop a sense of humor.

Thank you, Kiara.

As you know, I usually respond to anything without basis or anything so silly slung my way. But in Pixia's case I didn't want to aggravate a sensitivity that I'm ill equiped to deal with. I see that she warned Ebay Outlook posters that RT is "infected with a troll".[/i]

We surely have had some good times to remember here. And I'll always stand in admiration of the outstanding knowledge, leadership and help that you provided on Ebay Outlook.

"RT is infected with a troll".... ewwwwwww, that sounds so nasty late at night but it's hilarious ... ha ha

Helen, I think we've all learned many things from each other here over the years because of the range of topics and opinions and we all had some fun or we'd have never returned, even when each one of us got bashed by others.

It's silly for anyone to think you're chasing others off because if that was the case I'd have been gone years ago as I'm kind of a wimp. Hope those with health troubles get better and hopefully you all have good insurance.

On another note, did anyone watch Tom Brokaw explaining Canada to Americans? The video has been getting lots of hits.

That suggestion reminds me of my neighbor who asked her little boy how he enjoyed his first day at school. He answered, "School is fun but that playground is every man for himself!"....Reminds me of my impression of the atmosphere that I encountered when I made my first comment on this "playground" ten years ago. It never occurred to me to whine or leave or request that Vendio provide me with a board free of conflict. I adjusted.

And I became, "beautiful".

I am sure that Pixia can do that too.

If I were a member of BOMM I would post that link about Canada for Linda to consider.

Hello, hello, hello! I've pretty much hibernated all winter. My favorite Ohio Senator, Dale Miller, has decided not to run for reelection this year. Instead, he wants to run for the newly formed Cuyahoga County Council. I think he'll do great so I'm throwing my support his way.

Just found out that the Senate has failed to act on a Medicare bill so Medicare is cutting payments to physicians by a whopping 21%!! This is going to just about kill our business. Keep in mind that this doesn't pertain to hospitals. They get to keep gouging the insurance industry at the same hurried pace as always. I've email Dennis Kucinich and am awaiting a reply. I have no idea what Congress or the Senate have been doing lately, but it doesn't seem like much. Even Dennis has been woefully quiet.

Other than looking out the window and seeing a steady stream of snow for the last three days, nothing else is new. We tend to slow down a lot around here during the winter. I still go out on the weekends with my dear friend, Patty and I'm afraid I've become quite addicted to FaceBook. I did find out how Fox 8 handles people whose opinions differ from theirs (at least on FaceBook). They simply delete your post. Censorship at its finest.

Oh I hate it that they are reducing Medicare, I am not on it yet but have many friends who are and they are pleased with what they have now. I like FaceBook too and spend a fair amount of time on there. Enjoy cocooning inside while the snow flies, I shoveled a little bit of snow this morning, only 2 inches today, not bad at all.

I'm a Luddite when it comes to FaceBook, Twitter and texting. A line I've personally decided not to cross. I hear people all the time say they're "addicted" or some such language. I've got enough monkeys on my back already.

Profe: My kids talked me into going onto Facebook but I look at it perhaps every 2 or 3 weeks. It's rather boring to me most of the time--people with an AWFUL LOT of time on their hands: "I'm going to bed now. Bye." etc. etc. etc.

I didn't know what a Luddite was until a few years ago. I bought and read a book, "The Lead-Pencil Society," which was fascinating.

I keep up with alumni from school, family that live out of town and out of the country and friends on FaceBook. Our whole 35th reunion is being planned using FaceBook. It's not a matter of having too much time on one's hands. It's just another venue for communicating and it's far superior to MySpace, which IMHO, is a place for teenagers to hang. I have also come to know (online) a number of people from different places around the world that would never have been aware of otherwise. I do have to admit becoming rather attached to a game called Farmville. Prof - I think you'd like my farm! LOL!

I've heard a bit about farmville. Sort of a sim farm thing, right? If you ever want to find out what farming is really all about, I've got some chores you can help with:

-reaching into a mare-sheep-cow-dairy goat up to your elbows to re-arrange and pull out a twisted up newborn

-castrating and dehorning bull calves, colts, baby rams and bucks. It's just blood, it washes off.

-slaughtering and butchering your own meat. Ahh, the smell of fresh guts steaming on the ground in the morning.

-putting down sick livestock with a pistol, then burying them with a backhoe. They always land in the hole feet straight up in the air and you have to batter them down with the backhoe bucket.

-drawing blood from the neck veins of 250 sheep for their annual tests. You'll stick yourself only about once out of 5 times if you're really good at it.

-mucking out pens after it rains 5 inches in 2 days and god has sent you your own personal plague of flies.

These are just a few of the delightful pleasures of escaping to the country to "get back to the land".

Do they have games like "InsuranceSalesmanville" or "Cubicleville" or EbayPowersellerville" or "WallStreetTycoonville" or "CustomerServiceRepville"? I might sign up just to see what a real job is like.
