Well,Shag, let me ask you this,if Obamacare is so good, how come so many people do not want Obamacare?
I agree, everyone has to pay,but one should not be penalised if he does not want to join the system.
In Germany, you can opt out of the system, but when you decide to join, you have to pay for those years you opted out of the system, which makes it rather expensive.
Few opted out of the system, those who do are migrant workers and immigrants.

SHag,
Employer can be generous and offer Cobra to layoff employees, but eventually without the employer subsidy, the layoff person cannot afford it on his own.
This deal with the hospital which cannot refuse anyone looking for treatment under Cobra,I thought it is not Reagon but Pelosi?
Anyway,Reagon era was many moons ago when our health care cost is still manageable and we dont have a stampede into the ER!

It is not just the uninsured who go to the hospital ER ,it is also Medicaid and Medicare and the deadbeats.
A doctor gets $11-$13 from Medicaid and $50 from Medicare when his monthly overhead expenses are in 5 figures.

We have no problem spending trillions to kill millions (Iraq & Afghanistan) but (gasp) we try to spend one dime to take care of our own.

Lost: You said, "I agree, everyone has to pay,but one should not be penalised if he does not want to join the system."

SOMEONE WILL be penalized, Lost. If they don't join the system, we the public will pay for their care. Is that fair???

Been away for a week.

"Shag, let me ask you this,if Obamacare is so good, how come so many people do not want Obamacare?"

You are absolutely 100% correct. Two Reasons:

1) Democrats have done a terrible job explaining the benefits of Insurance reform.

2) Most of the law has not been implemented yet, so people don't know how it will benefit them. The entire law doesn't take effect until 2014.

With that said, many provisions have taken place and those provisions are EXTREMELY popular.

Ask anyone who now has their under 26 year old son or daughter on their insurance plan if they like ObamaCare.

Ask anyone who's child is no longer excluded from insurance because of a pre-existing condition (by 2014 it will be all Americans).

When August rolls around and people start getting refund checks from their insurance company for premium overpayments... see just how popular that will be. Insurance companies must operate with 15% overhead. The remaining 85% goes to direct medical expenses. Anything left is refunded to its policy holders.

Ask the small business (under 50 employees) who struggle to offer affordable group plans policies to employees how they will like having more options in states that will be offering insurance pools at discounted & subsidized rates.

Ask the seniors who have the donut hole closed for prescription drugs.

To make a point, Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid was quite unpopular when it began. Ask anyone who receives those benefits how they like it.

The popularity of ObamaCare is increasing and you cannot ignore that fact.

With regards to your question about COBRA - you can find that answer by researching what COBRA is. It is much much more than just allowing employees portable insurance coverage. It involved trade, post office, disability insurance, railroads, tobacco, and so much more.

Hidden in COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) was EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act) which requires hospitals to treat people whether they can afford it or not. Those costs are not paid by the federal government directly, but are passed on to taxpayers through bad debt write offs and about $1000 each year to every person who currently has health insurance.

ObamaCare will in essence eliminate this $1000 expense to policyholders because everyone will be required to have insurance.

By the way, a bit of history on COBRA. It was passed by Reconciliation. This is exactly how ObamaCare was passed. Again, no public outcry about undoing COBRA. Funny how that works.

I cant believe someone will tell you how much you can make?
How would you like if Ebay tells us how much we can make ?
How about Big Brother telling us it is all our fault we get sick and we have no money to pay the doctor and hospital as we never save,we eat too much, exercise too little and our house is filled with junks we bought from Ebay,AMZN,dollar store,or even Nieman Marcus!
Do we really need the latest generation of IPOD,Iphone ?
Do we really need more than one TV,DVD players,do we need t o stream movies all day long and eat and drink all the junk food in front of the Tv set?
Or drive for miles and miles just to be free?
Or take that mini vacation in the Carribean?
Or drink that latte or shot of whiskey before and after work?
Or Chilean sea bass versus catfish?
Or That tiger prawn versus crayfish?
Or ground round versus filet mignon?
Or tap water versus botted water?
Or taking a cab versus walking?
Or designer brands versus no brand?
or staying up too late and not brushing our teeth before going to bed?
Or who ends up with 1000 rhino collectibles in the basement,or 1500 hippo collectibles or 500 figural teapots or 10,000 baseball cards?
OR COCA COLA,MM,Donald Duck, pandas, cobra snake,J Dimaggio,Bruce Sprinstein,Beatles,Elvis collectibles in the basement, attics and under the beds.
the list goes on.

Not sure what your rant was about, but it certainly didn't seem it was about the ACA.
