How come you never see any Canadian restaurants in the USA, leastwise i've never seen one. You see all kinds of other ethnic resaurants in the USA like Japanese, Korean, Mexican, etc. What kind of food do Canadians eat, it can't be only bacon, can it?

Canadians also eat catsup-flavored potato chips.

Well, we put vinegar on our french fries. Other than that, we eat the same sorts of food. We have a lot of ethnic restaurants here as well.

No food threads and no more election talk! What will we talk about in the Round Table.

Actualy I have a confession to make, I started this thread because I have thought for some time now that it would be neat to have a restaurant and call it Canadian, because of the fact that you don't see any restaurants of this type in the USA, but I have absolutely no idea what kind of food to serve. So I guess I am asking what kind of food/dishes do Canadians eat that is different from food/dishes in the USA.

One of the places I got to visit courtesy of the US Coast Guard was Scotland. A friend and I go on liberty, hail a taxi and off we go. It's getting dark, and I really want to sample Scottish cuisine, so I ask the driver to take me to a restraunt that serves Scottish food.
He said he didn't know of one, because when he went out, he always ate Chinese. But he would call his dispatcher and ask for recommendations.
When he got through to the dispatcher, he asked.
The Answer. He didn't know of one because when he went out he ate Chinese.
Bowing to the logic, we went to a Chinese place and had a great time talking to the Scots because 1) They loved our accents and
2) We weren't English.

But I guess if you want haggis in Scotland, you'll have to go to someone's house, because there are no Scottish restraunts in Edinborough.

Is it true that Canadians put Mayonnaise on hamburgers? It was used as a joke in the film "The Whole Nine Yards" & this thread brought it to mind... If so, that alone could explain why there are no Canadian restaurants in the US

I put mayo on hamburgers and have never even been to Canada.

Mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, onions Big thick sliced onions, tomato, jalepenos, and sometimes pringles or ruffles. oh! and mushrooms cooked in the beef fat.

While I was raised, like your children, to make no negative comments regarding food served me as a guest in someone's house (though *I* was taught to eat it all, not just take a couple of token bites), discussions like this one are fair game for voicing opinions about the wrong-headed food choices of others...

And there you have a run-on sentence worthy of Heningway or Twain!
