Logic would indicate that this is precisely what happened, krs, and by the same token if the ballots had been of similar design say in Seminole County, but with Ralph Nader's name above and to the right of Bush's, and Nader got an unprecedented percentage of votes in a "republican" county, Bush's people would be arguing the exact same thing as Gore's.
New articles are indicating that Bush is intransigent about being declared the winner, and while both candidates "believe" that they are the true winner, the sources inside the Bush camp have vowed that they will fight this to the end (if there ever is one) and pursue this beyond the Florida Supreme Court (Scorched Earth policy as promised). Gore's camp, on the other hand, is hearing "noises" within the Democratic Party putting pressure on his campaign to not pursue this beyond the Florida Supreme Court in the interests of national unity and closure...read that to mean, thay they believe that the "winner" in all this is in actuality, the "loser".

Quoted from WND...(worldnetdaily.com)
The businesswoman, who asked to remain anonymous, told WorldNetDaily that Gore operatives made the rounds of all the retirement communities instructing residents to "punch the second hole."
"A 75-year-old Jewish friend of ours said he was mad his vote went to Buchanan and complained they told him to punch the wrong hole," the source told WorldNetDaily. "And another Jewish friend said she couldn't believe they had told all the seniors to punch the wrong hole when they went to vote at Century Village."
Testimony from seniors also indicates that Rep. Robert Wexler, D-Fla., of West Palm Beach visited retirement communities and instructed residents to "punch number 2" which amounted to a vote for Buchanan.
End of Quote...
Could that be where and why all the "Hoopla"
started in the first place...A MAJOR screw up by Democrat Operatives..?? Duhhh???

I've seen that source and consider it to be creative writing with a heavy right wing slant. The only source referred to within the site that I've seen is the Drudge report.
But to you it's as a bible is for those who are able to indulge in blind faith beliefs.

Sorry...even Miami-Dade doesn't think he's worth it. After 4 changes....Miami decides to bag it...ostensibly because of the Florida Supreme Court deadline...
Now, Gore is going back to court. To force his former and beloved so-called constituents to count against their will. Formerly...Gore said the local boards had total jurisdiction. Until they found against him, that is.

Dale county calls it quits???! I've not been surprised by much lately till this. I can see a team of lawyers breaking speed limits to get that recount started again. How many times has Dale switched positions?

And Bush has authorized his people to appeal the Florida state supreme court decision to the US Supreme Court. So much for states' rights.
Ironies abound.

This is nuts!
And now they're saying Bush is appealing to the US Supreme Court to overturn the Florida Supreme Court's decision!
Not that it matters a whole lot since Miami-Dade has stopped counting.
Does anyone else get the feeling that both of these guys are pretty desperate to win the presidency? Obviously Bush doesn't care if he was legitimately voted in... he just wants to win, and he wants it now.

There is no logic. Partisans abound.
I, myself adhere to no party. I do, however, espouse fairness in all things. Thus, I must admit. Gore is without merit.

Did you see the scene at Dale county when they were going to move to the 19th floor for a recount! If that was overseas the US would be sending observers to monitor the process. That's the ugliest scene so far in this epic election.

I would be very surprised if the US Supreme Court even agrees to hear the case. It's not their jurisdiction, it's a state problem.
What isn't surprising is that Bush's camp is going to take it to the Supreme Court. They threatened to do this two weeks ago. And if they lose there, who are they going to appeal to? God?

I still can't get over Dale county voting to accept the machine totals. That shocked me, Gore's chin had to have hit the floor over that one. I've never seen anything like this, I don't think anyone has.

- Of course not, then it is a problem with the court bias; A strict constructivist reading of the constitution shows that only machine counted votes are valid.

The 3 people on the Dade election commitee,
1 being a judge, probably, and I stress probably, could see what is happening and did NOT want to go to jail for "Stealing votes" or whatever... when all is said and done.. The facts in all this have not come out yet, but they will...
I mean after all, it does not take a genius to see what is going on and what the intentions are...Now does it..??

I think figmente means "strict constructionist." (At least that's the term they use in con law.)
Also, please cite the US Constitution (presumably to which you refer) where it states that only machine counted ballots are valid? Is the use of use of voting machines mandated in the Constitution? Does the Constitution (or does state and local law, rather) determine how the states conduct their elections and recounts?
Also consider that at least one county in Florida has no voting machines so all their ballots are hand counted and always have been. Other small jurisdictions in other states also don't use voting machines. Let's throw 'em out too, shall we, as 'unconstitutional' from a 'strict constructivist' interpretation.

njrazd,
Note my question mark. I tossed this one in for consideration. If you'd care to do so, you could find republican leanings in many of the articles that I've brought here.
Unlike most republicans here, I'm not taking any of this personally, and I'm not rooting at a football team in the midwest where, except for elections, sporting events are the most exciting elements of people's lives. I should qualify "people's" to say that republican midwesterners also find great enjoyment in watching cows chew cud and chickens peck.

That might not be a bad idea. The only problem is that neither party ran their campaign seeking the popular vote (since it doesn't count). So, I'm sure both would want a re-do. I don't think any of us could stomach that.
Not paranoid anywhere else but here!

Why do we have an electoral college?(Because the smaller less populated states had very little say as they were 'outvoted' on everything).
So, if we do away with the electoral college what will happen to the MAJORITY of the states? You know..the ones who voted for PRESIDENT BUSH?

Some people believe they are sophisticated because they have walked past an art gallery. If only the so-called "big city folk" knew how (we) see them.
Many of (them) believe sophistication and intelligence are automatic, ordained by area and masses. In reality, the larger the population, the greater the number of stupid people there will be.
A good example are the "sophisticated" areas of Florida where thousands of sohisticated people were apparently too stupid to follow instructions when voting and now advertise their stupidness by openly crying about it.
