Good Morning

For the first time in 2 1/2 years (bad! bad!) I am going to blow out the dust in my computer.

I know you are to do it to the tower, but should you open the monitor case and do it also? After unplugging everything, of course.

There is a hot (?) odor coming from it, possibly dust.

Thanks!!!

Don't take the cover off of your monitor. Just dust the outside of it. Be very careful when doing the inside of your tower as well. Keep the can of compressed air upright or the "air" comes out moist which is bad.

Make sure and do the fans well, both the processor fan and the one of the video card (if there is one).

Thank you, Meya.

I'm glad I asked about the monitor. My husband was prepared to take it apart.

This from a man who doesn't even know how to turn a computer on.

He is going to use his power airgun (?) on low to blow out the dust. I'll make sure there is no chance of moisture.

By the way, I still have not found out why I can't get into eBay, other than the announcement board and chat boards. Thank goodness I had no auctions running.

The initial problem started when they introduced Smart Search. I've never been able to use that feature, but could search on sellers, bidders and closed auctions. I was able to view auctions and use the Site Map, etc. Now, I can't do anything other than stated above.

I haven't read of another soul that is having problems bringing up eBay.

I've been researching different tech sites, including MS, for iexplore error messages like mine (Kernel32.Dll).

One of MS' suggestions was un-enabling Java JIT. Unfortunately, it wasn't that simple.

Possibly a script problem? Is that the same as Active?

Uh, what exactly is a Power Airgun? If the force is too strong, you'll damage sensitive electronics on the various boards and cards installed on your system.

We were typing at the same time.

I questioned the power of this tool also.

Will check out the site you suggested.

Thank you.

Just checked out and bookmarked the site, Meya.

Scrapping the power tool. Sounds like I shouldn't even use my home vacuum cleaner in blower mode (static).

I will buy compressed air or a PC vacuum. Better safe than sorry.

Hi macandjan,

My non-shedding dog very rarely comes into this room, but the cat...

I keep the monitor covered when not in use (after cool down) and chase the cat off the desk, but I know just his presence in this room can have the fur flying.

I clean everything once/week, but have been lax in keeping the "innards" clean.

Actually, more ignorant than lax, for I didn't know the damage internal dust can do to a computer.

Now that I know better, I will do better.

Well, that was painless.

We were stunned how little dust was in there. And, no cat hair.

My house collects more dust in a week than the tower collected in years.

Note: I have an air cleaner running at all times. Apparently, that is a good thing.

My husband's tool ( ) is NOT an airgun (duh), but a compressor. He was able to regulate the output.
