Pat Taylor said in a thread in the Ebay Outlook "please do not discuss specific organizations or religions".

Does this ruling/request cover all of the AW chat rooms, just the Ebay Outlook, or is it only effective when an Ebay poster doesn't like the comments being made.

Seems to me, there have been several religious discussions on AW in the past, yes they got hostile/friendly/supportive and downright nasty sometimes, but they were intersting and I learned a lot.

I'm sad to see that religious discussion and or discussions of specific organizations will no longer be allowed.

For what it's worth, a lot of posters really hate the current ongoing political discussions on AW and some even think politics has no place on a chat board. Will that be the next subject to be banned.

Lordy, I hate censorship.

Edited to add: I just realized that I made this post in the Round Table forum rather than in the Moderators Corner, as required by the rules, so I will post this comment in that forum as well.

Hi jada

Pat prefaced that comment with:

Please confine your discussion to the subject of this thread, which is the fact that a bidder has learned after the fact that his payment will go to benefit an organization, and that his name is to be included on a list of donors.

The request not to discuss specific organisations or religions was an attempt to keep the thread on track. If it veered off topic and the main focus of the discussion revolved around religion itself, rather than the bidder's predicament, it would be more appropriate for here in the RT.

We appreciate that religion (and politics for that matter!) are subjects that evoke passionate responses from the Community and provided the CGs are not violated, will still be permitted.

And yes - some posters will disagree with the decisions we make to allow religious or political discussions to continue. Not the first time, and won't be the last time

Thanks Michelle

So, if I understand you correctly, the only place that religion and specific organizations cannot be discussed is that one particular thread?

That's my interpretation of it, jada.
Of course, should another thread in the EO (or any of the other auction forums) sidetrack into a general discussion of religious organisations, then the Moderators would most likely make a similar request or suggest the discussion move to the RT.

jada

Since this is virtually a duplicate of the thread in the MC, I'm going to lock it up. I'm happy to continue the discussion there.
