Don't mess with Texas?

"George W. Bush's motto is "Mess with taxes." And do it for the rich. Bush's economic plan has something for everybody who's anybody. And you're nobody".

Works for me!

That's the best article about dubyanomics that I've read in a while. Molly's going to have some real competition now that the source of her material is public domain. Many memorable lines in the article. Not one of the more colorful but nonetheless my favorite:

And how would Bush spend this money he doesn't have yet? It's simple. He would cut taxes, raise federal spending and pay down the national debt.

I don't believe that I've seen his budget proposal stated so succinctly and precisely.

Great article about Dubyacomics...Thanks...

OT: The couple of times I forced myself to take a peek at the dude, I noticed that he gets so excited at hearing himslef speak (no matter how poorly), that his lips tremble, his nose twitches, and I stand ready to extend a Kleenex, as he looks to be on the verge of crying...

I was listening to NPR, where a discussion over asking for funding for Stem Cell research, was underway...and the GENERAL contention was, of course, WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER, as long as we have this extreme right twit in the White House... It was quite a revelation to hear that the very day dumbo signed his Pro Life bill or whatever, that very same day, the highest court in England, governed by an extremely conservative branch, SIGNED THEIR AUTHORIZATION to persue such research, even tho it may have to use fetuses/embryos....
So, dumbo is putting a halt to progress to help humanity, as Parkinsons and other illnesses would benefit greatly from a Stem Cell transplant.

We are about to enter the next "dark ages" stage...

the highest court in England, governed by an extremely conservative branch, SIGNED THEIR AUTHORIZATION to persue such research, even tho it may have to use fetuses/embryos....
So, dumbo is putting a halt to progress to help humanity, as Parkinsons and other illnesses would benefit greatly from a Stem Cell transplant

Much research is ongoing at many research institutions, one is: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/cellengineering/ that do not require the use of fetal nor embryros.

quote: "MSCs (mesenchymal stem cell) are harvested from adult tissues, skirting the ethical issues more basic cells carry" end quote: http://hopkins.med.jhu.edu/press/1999/APRIL99/990401.HTM

And

EBDs quote: "reproduce readily and are easily maintained, and thus eliminate the end to use fetal tissues each time a source - a step that should quell many of the political and ethical concerns that swirl around stem cell studies" end quote. http://hopkins.med.jhu.edu/press/2000/DECEMBER/001225.HTM

And I believe it's the Univerity of Wisconsin who are now researching umbilical cord blood stem cell research, instead of using fetal tissue.

While some approve of fetal tissue use for research and some don't, it doesn't mean that there isn't ANY research going on because this issue is both a political and ethical hot subject.

Well, I don't really expect to get an answer
to my question but I may as well ask.

Why would anyone not believe in fetal cell
research?

The position that "some" research is adequate is just not justified.

Prevention and diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and diseases of the nervous system such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimers would be advanced by fetal research.
Scientists all over the world know this.

The dark ages is definitely upon us. It is reflected in the lack of
interest in this thread. Linda_K tosses this #*!@ out and then
refuses to comment any further. And, nobody else has a thought on the
subject. This is dark, dark, dark.

[I] have a thought.

I think your contributions pertaining to the subject are no more than an opinion. Therefore, anyone else (also) having an opinion is on equal ground.

SgtMike

You state, I have a thought

Although that is problematic in itself, I will let that slide.

Then you go on to say that my contribution to this thread was an
opinion.

True!!!

But then you state that anyone else having an opinion is on an
equal ground.

hmmmm...generally that's true... but it appears to me now that
the level of the playing field in this case is unequal. I will take that into
consideration in the future.

KRS

I take your comments very seriously.

I hear what is said and what is not said and
what is between the lines.

So, I'll have to back off and chill and try harder to compose my
thoughts in a friendlier context.

Helen

It's going to snow one foot in Maryland so
I'm on my way to the store to stock up on
popcorn and chocolate.

How's that?
