Remember those Hunt brothers? Are they the inspiration for the Texans recently charged with internet fraud?

Didn't the Hunts have a sterling reputation?

It only appears to some that Texas is in the lead; when in fact……

The following listed agencies doing Internet fraud surveillance for below listed types of fraud, found that California was in the lead regarding fraudulent investment scams via the Internet.

Fighting Internet "Cyber Investment Fraud"

1. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

2. North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA)

3. Federal Trade Commission (FTC)

4. Department of Corporations (DOC)

-Offer and sale of unqualified securities
-Unlicensed broker-dealer and investment adviser activity
-Fraudulent offers and sales of securities
-Market manipulation
-Insider trading

"During the month of February, 1999, the DOC's Internet Surveillance Unit surveyed 480 web sites, of which 45, or 9%, involved investment offerings; and of those, 31, or 69%, were in California. The subject matters of the offerings included 15 entertainment deals, 6 franchise offerings, 5 foreign currency offerings, venture capital, gaming, commodities and immigration offerings.

That's easy to understand. Once the Texans had gotten some money from their frauds, they moved out of that wasteland to California. Lots of cowboy hats here, and even some yo-yos with steer horns on their Cadillac hoods.
Most people ignore them.

I'm gone shooting.

"Internet fraud" includes "investment scams via the Internet", not the other way around.

Boy, did those Texan's get a surprise!

Mojave Desert, bunchgrass scrub, toxic pollution so bad controlling regs exceed Federal minimums, mudslides, brushfires, earthquakes, Berkley, largest population of wacko tree-huggers, no electricity, in some areas clean water has to be trucked in on a regular basis, etc.

Those horns on the hood are to ward off the perverts when driving in certain CA cities.

Internet fraud encompasses a lot of things, not just investment scams.

Of course I have no idea which state leads.

Actually the title just mentions Texans and fraud and the example includes the Hunts' attempt to manipulate the world silver market as a comparison to recent internet investment scams.

I don't know which state leads in fraud.

I'd be interested in knowing sgtmike's definition of perverts.

Care to enlighten me?

That way I'll know whether I need to pack a set of steer horns, should I ever make it to California.

That is, if I can find a set of steer horns in Pennsylvania.

I'm sure I will be over my carry-on limit, though.

Good question! Personally, I believe those

horns are out seeking loose money rather than

avoiding "perverts" as SgtMike has asserted.

you consider a "pervert."

off topic, will someone tell me how I can
remove the W from my Auction Watch name?

They leave Texas because the majority of Texans don't put up with stuff like that..whereas they're hardly noticeable in California!

Bearmom,

Don't mess with California!

The first inspiration began with the Tulips in Holland

Better check the generator and fresh water supply before I lead the family through the tunnel. Thanks for the heads up!

'They'-term used loosely to include perverts, crooks, con artists, and presidents who sell visits to the White House and/or pardons.

'Stuff like that'-term used to describe cons, scams, perversion, and the selling of presidential favors.

'California'-term used to describe where people who are deported from Texas go. Used only because the term 'hell' was already taken.

Dan,

"Better check the generator and fresh water supply before I lead the family through the tunnel".

I knew it would capture your imagination.

That's a girl, bearmom. Spread the word. We don't need any more Nebraskans or refugees from other flyover places.

Heck, put up a sign just as soon as your lawn thaws.

Yup, Ken, if you hadn't sent me the url for that fortress, I would never have envisoned the dangers out there and acted quickly. And now from reading this thread I can even see the sources. My knowledge is complete.

Maybe Bearmom can enlighten us.

She uses the term, along with , crooks, con artists, and presidents who sell visits to the White House and/or pardons.
