Looks like at least 14 wounded, at least 2 of them adults. Gunman believed to be a sophmore at the high school. He is in custody. The wounded were taken to hospitals, at least two in surgery, but no reported fatalities, yet. Shooting was at Santana High School in Santee, which is a suburb of San Diego, about 25 miles outside the city proper. Geeze, it's Columbine all over again! I was freaking out when I heard, thank god it wasn't my son's school.

GOD!

WHEN will the worshippers at the altar of the God of Firearms Freedom get a clue?

How many of these shootings do we have to tolerate before we do what the rest of the civilized world has done about guns?

Reminds me of the situation when a rapist doesn't get sent to prison because it's his first offense. He gets "one free."

The firearms worshippers are throwing young people into the flaming arms of their god. So far the Firearms God is getting thousands and thousands free.

The Dad of the alleged shooter's friend is being interviewed. The alleged shooter was talking about shooting previous and this am the friend "searched" the alleged shooter but failed to search the backpack.

{paraphrasing} The friend's Dad said he will be haunted by this because he didn't *do anything*

You got that right on, Adele! These are kids for heaven's sake! How in HELL are they getting these guns??? Hi back atcha LindaK.

bobbysoxer, why do you bother participating in these threads if you are not interested in what anyone other than yourself has to say? You and your "ignore button" are getting tiresome. Push it all you want, but keep the proclamation to yourself please. I doubt very much that anyone here cares who you "ignore".

2 confirmed dead now. What a waste! Reports that the kid got the guns from his father who kept numerous firearms at home.

bobbysoxer---unlike you I prefer to go through the world with both my eyes and my ears wide open--which means hearing things that are contrary to my own beliefs--.

and even if I did choose to put you on ignore it would be for my benefit only and there would be no need to post that information for an audience that in my fantasy cared what I did or didn't do.

Kids have had access to guns since their invention. I am all for laws going after the owners who allow the guns to get into the wrong hands, but I cannot see banning them. What we need to find out is why these kids feel the need to shoot up their classmates in the first place.

People are allowed to post the instructions on making a bomb in books and on the internet under the guise of free speech. If you don't know what's going on with your own kids, then all the restrictions in the world won't help you.

I was just talking to my mom in El Paso about this. She told me that very recently there was some kind of riot at a high school there. My mom is 79 and doesn't really keep up with these things, and isolates herself from hearing about them, so I couldn't get much information from her.
Evidently, there are a lot of problems between Native Americans and Mexicans. Guns were involved but no one was shot.
I know someone here has a friend who lives in El Paso. Maybe you would know what the story is about this.

What I am hearing with the interviews with parents and students the alleged shooter had talked about it. No one reported it.

Bush recently in his speech talked about reporting things such as this.....

Horrible, so very sad.

Banning guns isn't the answer, it will never happen. Gun owners HAVE to be more responsible with their weapons, why in the hell did that kid even have access to his dad's gun?
My husband and I own guns, however we also have a heavy duty gun safe which only the two of us know the combination to. I wouldn't allow them in my house any other way.

I don't want to turn this into a gun control thread, it's an incredible tragedy, two dead and 13 wounded, and scores of lives ruined. Awful.

Just heard that his friends were so concerned about him doing this that one of them patted him down this morning looking for weapons, but he had the gun hidden in his backpack.

Bush just called this a "disgraceful act of cowardice".

That seemed inappropriate to me, considering that the shooter was an obviously disturbed student.

I also think the news media interviewing the students at the scene is wrong.
