"Conservatives have complained about liberal stances taken by the organization [The American Bar Association] on such issues as abortion, capital punishment and religious liberty."

Why not just come out and say who it really is? Why paint all conservatives this way? Why not just come out and say that the Christian Coelition wants to choose Supreme Court Nominees; so would corporations like Microsoft or Standard Oil for that matter. Just think of the wonderful opportunities for BRIBERY $$$ if the President handled the strings, eh?

Well, now that Bush is in the White House it's his show. What do you expect him to do, play for the other side?

Nominees have to be confirmed though.

Morning Gentlemen ^^^^

"The president welcomes input from the American Bar Association and believes they should have a role in the process. The question is whether the ABA should have a preferential role over all interested parties," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said after the meeting, which he described as cordial.

ABA president Martha Barnett told reporters that, in the hourlong White House meeting, Gonzales and Ashcroft did not indicate a position but raised the question of whether some conservatives' perceptions of the ABA "has affected our ability to be impartial."

"Certainly, General Ashcroft raised the question of positions that the ABA took," said Patricia M. Hynes, chairperson of the ABA standing committee that rates potential nominees. Said Barnett: "We did discuss the fact that some groups, people, believe that the American Bar Association has a political agenda or a liberal agenda. We talked about that with them and pointed out that there may be positions we've taken that could be characterized as liberal ... but we talked about the broad array of issues that the bar is involved in."

Meeting and discussing the 'conservatives' perceptions' in regards to their (ABAs) liberal leaning seems like a way to keep the lines of communication open.
