So nice of you to post Matthew 28:1-10 ...it was WONDERFUL!!
dubyasdaman Your post on the other thread was so well written .... I thought it worth repeating....(hope you don't mind & God Bless You!!)
Let's assume for a moment that all Christians are wrong. God is a myth. Jesus Christ was just a man with enough charisma to influence billions of people over the course of 2000 odd years.
Where does this leave Christians? In the same boat as everyone else. We die and that's it. It's over. Nothing left. But then again we did have the benefit of living happier, healthier lives while we were alive because we believed in Biblical principles and lived a Christian life.
Now, let's assume for a moment that Christians are right. Where does that leave Christians? In heaven after they die an earthly death, as opposed to the non-believers who will spend eternity in a fiery burning hell.
One of the two scenarios above is correct. Either Christians are right and they go to heaven when they die while non-believers go to hell.
OR
Christians are wrong and they are no worse off than non-believers after they die. They just die and that's it.
It seems to me that Christians have a lot less to lose if they're wrong than non-believers. Of course everything above was said for the sake of argument. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that the Bible is the true (and only) word of God. Christ (the Son 0f God) came to earth, lived a perfect, sinless life, was crucified, shed his blood, and died in in order to save all mankind (all that will believe that is). He lay in the tomb for 3 days and then rose again.
This is why we celebrate Easter. Christ's rising from the dead provided hope and a bright future for all who believe and accept his gift of eternal life. Many will choose not to believe. This is their choice. Ultimately a poor choice, but their choice nonetheless. While deeply saddened by it, I respect this choice as theirs to make. I'll be praying that they will make the RIGHT choice before it's too late.
Life with Christ is an endless hope, without Him a hopeless end.

My only beef with evolution is that it completely fails to enhance my life in any way. I'm still waiting for it to give me a better job and solve hunger in 3rd world nations.

psalms139-actually those are good links.
The Christian Research Institute is a very good organization.
The radio show The Bible Answer Man is good, I just always seem to miss it.
Dr Walter Martin was a very amazing man, and I have the book, The Kingdom of the Cults, which goes deep into most cults, which some would find surprising that they are cults. Very good book.
And a very good website. Another good one, for any faith (even non Christian )
is beliefnet.com some very intelligent people on there.
Find Chuck Missler by author, then find his "Beyond Time and Space". It is an audio broadcast in 2 parts.
The quality of some other of the Missler broadcasts are poor. You can get a free audio CD from that site with hundreds or broadcasts of free cassettes. Many other great speakers there too.

I am not familiar with Dr Walter Martin. Sounds interesting though.... I will have to look for that book. Thanks!
jt I haven't heard Chuck Missler in a while..but always love to hear him speak. He is a brilliant man! I have bookmarked this site!! Thank You!
ddicffe I hope that story will help others to realize how much God loves us..to send His ONLY Son to die for all of us. It's sad to know there are people out there that do not believe in Jesus. They do not know the Joy and Peace He will bring into their lives.
As for the links...I'm not to good at it myself..but I'll try to help....

God is not a man (Numbers 23:19) yet you refer to God as a "him". Obviously you don't mean it literally.
Literally...
Do you even know what it means to be "created in God's image"? Do you think it means that humans look like God? Of course not. (Deut. 4:15) So in what way does having a genetic relationship and common ancestry with other primates offend you?
"In the beginning, God created Heaven and Earth, etc".
Aside from the obvious fact that the Bible was written in language that would be comprehensible to it's original audience from 3 millenia ago and the fact that the Bible doesn't speak in literal terms as I've shown -- who is to say that your interpretation of the Bible, which is in opposition with the physical evidence is correct?
I notice that most Bible literalists seem to trust science very nicely as far as going to the doctor, for example. The same scientific method is used in the areas that no one objects to as in the areas that people do object to.

Religions will not face the light,
"No words in Scripture will they change;
Though later they'll admit it's right,
All facts of science seen as strange.
They first deny the world is round,
Deny the sun goes round the Earth;
When certainty is later found,
Belated answers given birth.
Now evolution sticks in craw,
But grudgingly they must accept;
Keep searching for some minor flaw,
Creation still is their concept.
By law they would the truth deflect,
Their version too by schools be taught;
The Bible's tale should all respect,
>From past mistakes they have learned naught".

Hey krs:
The day your "brillant" mind proves Darwin's theory, I will agree with you. Are we still waiting for that missing link? How about fossils bearing hs witness? Or mayhap it will be Mars (Bars ).Until then, my God will suffice for my answers.

In the begining, God created the heavens and the earth.

You're correct. God is NOT a man. Just like a dog is not a man. Just like a monkey is not a man. If God were a man we would have no hope for eternal life.
But God is male, just as a dog and a monkey can be male.
How do we know that God is male? Because the Bible tells us so over and over.
John 3:16 comes to mind as a perfect example:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
This is perhaps the most important verse in the Bible. It's there for all to read and accept or reject. As always, it comes down to a choice. Starting with Adam, God has given man the freedom to make choices. Adam made a foolish choice, plunging the entire human race into sin. We have the benefit of Biblical history and God's word to help us make the right choice.
...and the fact that the Bible doesn't speak in literal terms as I've shown --
And exactly where would you have shown this?

Dubya, the verse you've quoted as a prooftext doesn't say that God is a male. In other words "It" doesn't ring quite as nicely as "He" does, now does it? I'm glad that you've discovered that the Bible speaks in idiomatic language.
I've shown that the Bible doesn't speak in literal terms by pointing ouot that "man in God's image" does not mean that God has two eyes, two ears, a nose and mouth and walks upright. If that were the case you'd have to allow that gorillas too are created in God's image. But you won't allow that, will you?
Ok, so "man is created in God's image" means something other then what it says.
Finally, it might shock you to learn that the verse you've quoted (John 3:16) isn't in everyone's Bible.

Just for fun, change that post so that every time it says "Christian" it reads "Muslim", every time it says "Jesus Christ" it reads "Muhammad" and every time it says "God" it reads "Allah". Shockingly, the point doesn't change but it does show that neither of the two scenarios need be correct.

God is a He? It might state that, but does anyone really know its true?
Back when that was written, did they actually see God? When you think of powerful or strong right off the bat people think male. God must be male then.
Almost like all boats are called she.
If there is a God he is not he neither she. God is everything. He is male and female, plant and animal. Its just better to reference him by he then it. "It" tends more for objects then people.

I dispair when I think of enternal life. No, really. After only four decades of life, I already have so many regrets and "wish I had instead"'s that it nearly kills me. I shudder think of how bad it's going to be when I turn 80. I'll probably be totally insane by then with remorse and regret. Can you imagine another hunded years of it? A thousand? A Billion?
The other thing that gets to me is the description of what we are supposed, as Christians, to be doing all day long in Heaven. According to the Bible, we are to gather around God and sing His Praises for eternity. Eternal flattery. Hmm. Goes something like this,"Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Glory, Glory, Glory" and then it repeats forever. Something like that -- I'm sure someone can look up the exact words for me. Not only that, but to keep out everyone who doesn't want to be doing this non-stop, one-line chorus for eternity is barred from it by a wall made of solid gold 100-feet thick. They said gold, because only until this last century could forges get hot enough to melt platinum.
Sorry, but sometimes, I get depressed thinking about Eternal Life.
